when  you say it didnt work, what happeend, do you see your balances and addresses but the same issue appears?

Or you werent able to open?

There is no balance or transactions appearing.

It just wouldn't let it open. I guess it isnt cross compatiable between LTC and BTC.

Anyone whom figures this out can have a share of the funds, ideally dont want to lose them...

why dont you try the normal version of the electrum wallet and copy your wallet file over...and open that one?

Ok so i will open the normal electrum wallet, what option should i choose to copy my wallet over? Create a new wallet right?

Thanks

im not familiar with the LTC version... but try it , what do you have to lose -- just make a copy
of the wallet file so nothing can be modified on the original.

Ok i will let you know how i get on...

Ps. if it is successful let me know how to tip you Smiley

Thanks again

why dont you try the normal version of the electrum wallet and copy your wallet file over...and open that one?

So i can download the Normal BTC wallet and open an  LTC wallet backup? Wont it still ask for a password?

Yeah Electrum LTC wallet.
8  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Incorrect Password HOWEVER I KNOW it is correct. - IS THIS A BUG?? on: November 27, 2014, 12:18:56 AM
yeah, so that's an encrypted seed.  Unencrypted are only about 32.

Well... I hope some of the real experts here chime in...

But if no one else can help you, I can try writing you a python
script to manually decrypt the seed string from the wallet file
using a password.

Although I can't predict the results based on the funky behavior
the wallet is doing already.

What's the seed version?  Whats the electrum version?

How much coinage are we talking here out of curiosity
thats stuck in your wallet?

Damn thats annoying!

That might work! yeah the wallet has gone crazy, there is NOWAY the password is incorrect and it obviously wont open the seed window if it was.

The seed version is 4 it says and electrum is 1.9.8.6 and is the LTC wallet.

And well it is a good 2BTC+

Thanks

btw, i have no idea about this error or what happened etc...
sounds like something got corrupted but i'm just guessing...
maybe others will have better solution...

i am just trying to see if we can manually restore your seed
from the file.

Hopefully we will get somewhere,

Ok so, there are these == included on the end of what is written after the word seed. if we include those then it is 88 characters long and if we dont count them it is 86 characters? This is the first place it says 'seed' at the top.

Any use?
10  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Incorrect Password HOWEVER I KNOW it is correct. - IS THIS A BUG?? on: November 26, 2014, 11:41:11 PM
make a copy of the wallet file and open it with notepad or text editor.
search for "seed", do you have a value there?

Ok i did that and there is a value next to the word seed, however it is a numeric value and not words, what should i do now?

It actually occurs twice, one near the top of the file and one lower  but the lower one says "seed_version" the first one just says "Seed" and then has a numeric value after.

Thanks for your help in this, i really appreciate it.

and you dont have a copy of the seed written down somewhere?

Nope, i know NOOB mistake,  i took down the master key forgetting the seed words.

Hello All,

so this is probably a Noob question but i would really appreciate the advice.

I have been using Electrum for a little while now and so far its functionality i have been impresssed with. HOWEVER now i have a slight issue. Everytime i go to send from my wallet it asks for a password, I have input the CORRECT password and yet it ALWAYS states it is incorrect? I tried to take the seed from the wallet itself in the wallet dropdown box and i input the password there and it opens the seed window yet it shows the seed has 0 words?
How do i save my wallet? I want the funds out of it.

And heres the thing, i wonder if this is actually a system issue because i went and got a BRAND NEW laptop yesterday. Ran them both side by side. I installed Electrum on the new one. Opened a new wallet. INPUT A VERY SIMPLE PASSWORD and then i tried to send a small amount as a test and guess what? INCORRECT PASSWORD!!! How can this possibly be? The password on the test wallet is so simple even a chimp could guess it!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as i urgently need to gain access to my main wallet.

Thanks again

So let me get this straight:

If you try to get the seed, by going to:  Wallet=>Seed,
it will prompt for a password.

(If the password is incorrect, it will say "Incorrect Password".)

Yet, you are saying it is ACCEPTING that password there.
...and then showing you a blank seed.

That in of itself doesn't make sense because how can
the seed be blank?

And when you try to use that same password to send, its not working?

Hello Thanks for the reply.

Yup that is Precisley what i am saying, i tried generating another new wallet and the seed is displayed when you go to wallet...seed... But on this one it is empty and states (Please save these 0 words bla bla bla....)

Seems weird to me?

Number 2 (is that number just supposed to be the place mentioned in this thread?)
Mall of America in MN:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mall_of_America

http://www.mallofamerica.com/

Why: It's a huge mall, gets lots of visitors from all over the country (and some from visitors to the country).

Most of all, because there's so many shops (over 520 and an amusement park) pulled together in one place, if they could get every shop in the mall to accept them, it could be a major place for Bitcoin enthusiasts to visit, and also could introduce it to many new people, and I'm sure it would get coverage from the news if they could/would decide to do that.

Excellent Location! It is clearly a key hotspot in the local area and nation as a whole!

I like the idea about acceptance of Bitcoin across all the outlets within the mall, it would certainly increase exposure! This would be an executive decision for Mall management and possibly with something this big would be with the mall owner themselves. However if acceptance of Bitcoin in it's direct form wasn't possible then atleast bitcoin could still be spent there indirectly via the ATM once converted to FIAT. Or with our earlier idea of an intergrated debit card network which would allow direct access to bitcoin.

Great suggestion!

Number 3...
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1000 ATMs... 1000 locations needed = You'd decide! CHALLENGE... GET INVOLVED! on: October 26, 2014, 11:53:23 PM
Location: "Forum Trabzon", Trabzon, Turkey. (Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Forum+Trabzon/@40.999721,39.76122,570m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x40643a5f05c38837:0xec3f8f48315ecac2 )

Why:
First of all, Forum Trabzon is a big mall that has lots of local visitors.
Secondly, Trabzon and this mall gets lots of Arab tourists.
Thirdly, Forum Trabzon is near "Karadeniz Technical University" which has over 50k students. (You can check the campus on the google map).
Lastly, Forum Trabzon is near of "Trabzon International Airport".

Also I live in Trabzon Grin

Hello Cakir,

Thanks for your suggestion, number one on the list!

Some great reasons also!

Hopefully others will get involved and soon we will have 1000 solid locations!

So spot number 1. Has been taken, who will be location number 2... (No pun intended!)

Speak less. Create more. No one cares about your ramblings. Offer value. Clear and attractive. People will care. And will throw money at you.

Note taken.

(Keeping it simple as you stated)
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you all idiots? ...or what? on: October 26, 2014, 11:36:21 PM
99.9% of the time, paying with bitcoin goes through a payment processor such as bitpay, bitpay instantly sells your bitcoins for FIAT hence putting sell pressure on the market. So basically if people take your advice right now and start buying products with bitcoins, the price will fall.

No that is a myth.

The reason the BTC price is falling is that miners are selling immediately, and not hoarding.
The miners are suppose to sell, there job is to mine not to hord. No Gold miners is hording gold, they sell it instantly.

I'm inclined to disagree!
Holding gold reserves are equally important as that of capital raises (since 90% of the time that is what gold offtake is utilised for).
This topic itself requires a very deep discussion but I do assure you that it is not common practice to immediately sell off gold produced.

However in the broader topic of this discussion, I do agree that the future success of bitcoin and CryptoCurrencies in General is that of accessability. It is the key argument in the positives that Bitcoin poses to users. For Bitcoin to truly serve it's purpose of creation and to compete with conventional currency Bitcoin must become conventional currency itself be that in it's own form or indirectly via immediate FIAT exchange.

19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 1000 ATMs... 1000 locations needed = You'd decide! CHALLENGE... GET INVOLVED! on: October 26, 2014, 11:26:18 PM
Hello All,

So it seems my earlier topic about ATMs didn't get any feedback and it certainly didn't spark a deep discussion about making Bitcoins more accessible. So I thought this would be a good exercise to gauge members feedback on where they think Bitcoin ATMs should be located.

So the challenge is simple:

We have 1000 ATMs and need 1000 locations to place them. We are asking members to provide a location where they think an ATM would be best placed in the world. Can be any country, city, town or neighbourhood. Hopefully this will be a constructive task and gauge some meaningful feedback.
Think about a location that would be most beneficial to users and also a location that would be able to raise awareness. The location would need to be easily accessible and have a wider usage/purpose.

Please list your suggested location in the following format:

(Number): Location.

Why:

For example:

12: Covent Gardens, London

Why: Excellence access for locals, visitors, tourists and businesses. Popular area that wiuld provide large footfall. If would help to gain exposure of Bitcoin and would allow Bitcoin to be accessed from a great hotspot where it could easily be used in nearby shops, theatres and restaurants.

The challenge is on...
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Members advice and thoughts on ATMs and their manufacturers? on: October 26, 2014, 11:17:10 PM
Seems nobody is that interested in ATMs or accessing their Bitcoin holdings easily. Unless of course my long winded lecture scared everyone off!

I will create a new listing trying to get people to list 1000 places they would like to see an ATM established.

Hopefully will have better luck with it this time round...
