1  Other / Beginners & Help / I'll glady pay you Tuesday.... on: August 14, 2011, 11:41:54 AM
For 500 bitcoins today!!
Seriously, I've been a graphic artist on Macs for over 20 years. Advertising, design, logos, flyers, print and web design (no websites though), and would gladly sell my services for some bitcoins.
By the way, how do I know how many bitcoins is a reasonable charge for services like that? In the real world, I charge between $15 to $30 US dollars per hour. How does that convert?
Thanks in advance.

Sure. I should say that I'm not a miner.
But for example I visited a solo mine operation last week. It was profitable but required a large investment. This operation used 20 PCs with four video cards each. It required upgraded wiring for the house and 50k BTU cooling system for the mine room. The cost of electricity was over $1000/month.
So, your either all in or not in at all.

There are many pools you could join (deepbit is the largest). Just look rround these forums and you will find info on your options. You may not be able to post in the mining section but you can message people ( i think) or go to the pool's website. Upon accepting you they should help you get started with their rules. Do your homework, some pools are better than others.

Your idea about selling a service or goods is also a way to get bitcoins. Price something cheep enough and your in business.

I just read the newbie starters section but didn't get much out of it. I need a better explanation and/or link to go to. For example, where would I advertise (which forum) about my services and/or products for sale? And how do I know what's a fair price? I know in US dollars what's fair, but not bitcoins. Is there an easy conversion table? And especially, how can I gain access to whatever forum I'd be offering my service and/or product to?

Thanks in advance.

Could you explain more about pool mining? Also, being new, for some reason, I'm very limited as to where I can post.
Also, I'm on a fixed income, I can't afford to 'buy' bitcoins. I currently do and have for over 20 years professionally written and designed. I do have designing i.e. logos for both web and print, flyers, web/print design, etc. I just don't build webpages, but can do everything else. That's all I have to offer at the point as a swap or occupation that may or may not be helpful.

Be kind, help a newbie.

5  Other / Beginners & Help / A newbie question on mining, posting, gpus etc. on: August 04, 2011, 05:59:07 PM
I've been searching for a while and can't find any one document that explains all to newbies. Does anyone know? And I have zero money, in here or the real world. How can I get coins? Someone said mining, but what was my GPU. Well, I'm on a brand new mac G5 with 1 terabyte hard drive, 8 gigs RAM, etc. but don't know where to find info on GPU usage. Can someone explain?
Also, I've posted several times and this group is the only one I can post in. How do I enable being able to post in other discussions?

Please let me know,

Thanks in advance,

anenome

Tell us what's your GPU, and we can tell you if mining are available and/or financially profitable to you.
CPU mining ain't worth the effort at the current difficulty.

Placi!! I'm not sure where to read the GPU. What info do you want? I opened the system profiler and the type is GPU, but includes chipset model, VRAM Total etc. How do I find out how much is in use or the info you need for mining??
I just bought a very very expensive MAC with double everything, so I'm sure it's good. Please respond.
Thanks,
Anenome

Hey all. Someone who I was doing some work for turned me onto this site. I like what I see so far. I assume it's a form of electronic money and/or bardering? Is this correct? Then, I have no 'real' money to buy bitcoins and looked up mining. Could someone please tell me thoroughly how to get started? I can't seem to find any documentation either.
Someone please explain to me how to get started and moving and gaining some coin. Or direct me to a link that explains it all including mining.

Thank you so much in advance. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

9  Other / Beginners & Help / So tell me.... on: August 04, 2011, 04:26:25 PM
I've been doing some lurking...getting a feel of things and still can't quite figure out what bitcoin is. I have an idea, but many of the posts I've read in the 'newbies' (shit, first time I'll been called a 'newbie' in 100 years) page seem to be pretty useless gibberish...have yet to come across anything that explains exactly how to go about using this.
I was talking to someone this morning about writing/designing their site and marketing materials (I was a writer/graphic artist in a previous life). We were talking politics, religion, music etc. then he sent me a link to bitcoin and said I might be interested.
Well, so far, if I'm thinking is correct...then I'm interested.
Let me tell you what I've gathered. This is more of a site where you gather 'electronic monies' or 'barder (trade services or do services for bitcoins)'. Am I on the right track? Please explain.
As well, being on disability and working part-time, I'm flat broke. How do I go about advertising my services (writing or design: logos, flyers, print or web media, press releases, start conversations on forums, head/moderate forums, etc.) for bitcoins or something else?
Would someone please explain or at least guide me in the right direction? No smart-ass obvious remarks please...I have a sense of humor, but only if it's funny and not mindless.
Thanks in advance.

10  Other / Beginners & Help / Let me please introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste... on: August 04, 2011, 04:08:48 PM
Seriously, my name is Steve (anenome) and am new to this concept and don't really know where to start. Suggestions would be much appreciated (no smart-ass obvious answers!!! lol).
Actually, I'm in the midst of doing some design work for someone I met and he turned me on to this site (we seem to think a lot alike).
So anyway, I'm broke, on disability, was a writer/designer for over 20 years and now I freelance part-time.
I would love to find out the basics behind this if someone would be willing to volunteer a few minutes and shoot me an email to explain. In the meantime, I'll mindlessly wander around looking for answers to questions I have of yet to come up with.
So, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this have something to do with being able to trade (or barder) services and goods from one person to another using bitcoins? Or better yet, maybe trading services? Am I close? If so or if not, please correct me and explain.
Like I said, I have no money to buy anything, but I'm a well-equipped writer and graphic designer with all the necessary graphic software from Adobe i.e. PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Acrobat, etc. to do a lot of design whether it be: flyers, stories, logos, press releases, page/brochure layout and design...pretty much anything. The only thing I got out of was designing websites for personal reasons.
I'm a major music freak, but not the usual. I'm more old school punk/alternative/indie/ambient etc. from the 70's on. Although the newest band I have in my collection is: Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols...early 90's. All newbies suck pretty much after that.
Would love to trade my services for other services or music or movies or bitcoins, etc.
Please help get me started.
Thanks to all.
