3  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Margin Trading Killing Bitcoin? on: February 06, 2015, 04:46:55 AM
The implication is that Bitfinex being the largest exchange and offering traders the option to lever up in an illiquid market causes excessive volatility.

Don't bother reading the article. Only one sentence in the entire article was about margin trading and Bitcoin and here it is:
Quote
Bitfinex’s current leverage is about 3.3 to 1 for buying Bitcoin/Litecoin on margin, which is very miniscule compared to the leverage in more established markets.

I m more worried about Higher leverage (Like futures trading - 10/20x leverage), where sometimes with just few coins, traders can move the price up/down by few $. It make it much easier for "Big players" to manipulate the price and drive it in any direction they want.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [URGENT] SATOSHI HAS MOVED HIS COINS on: February 05, 2015, 10:13:32 PM
Totally fake, second topic to say something like this.

Whats satoshi's big address anyways?

Satoshi doesn't have 1 address, he have multiple ones with 50 BTC (Coins per block he obtained when solo-mining in 2009).

You can look them in the blockchain starting from 1,2,3.... But no one can really confirm which ones are owned by Satoshi
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2.5 BTC stolen i wanna cry :-( on: February 05, 2015, 10:03:27 PM
A vanity address? I can't but make sure to again and again point out to make sure how you get your vanity addresses. Where did you get it from??? If you let someone generate that address, you are in great danger of them having control over your coins! Only generate those addresses using a save version of vanitygen!

Please answer this Qs.

Where did you generated your address? Did you use Vanitygen (https://github.com/samr7/vanitygen)? Did someone generated it for you? Did you used some website to do so?

It happened! This is what we were afraid of! Satoshi has just moved his coins!! Sell all your coins before it's too late!

7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin-QT forced shutdown? on: February 04, 2015, 11:20:56 AM
I get an error in Bitcoin core that after about 2 hours of user inactivity the program gets shut down by the OS. A dialog window appears "An error has occured and Windows needs to shut this program". I can only click one button and then it proceeds to shut down Bitcoin core (the window is still there).

This happens both in version 0.9.3 and 0.10.rc3.

It even caused a DB corruption once, forcing me to redownload the entire blockchain.

I use Windows XP (SP3) with all patches. I've completely turned off any energy saving/standby modes (only screensaver after 11 minutes which does not affect this).

As long as I am using the computer everything is fine (I use a mouse jiggler program to let it run through).

Does anybody have an idea what the problem could be?

It happened to me using 0.9.3 but when I upgraded to 0.10 it was resolved, Bitcoin Core gets shutdown after few minutes (doesn't matter if I was using the computer or not). I also used a new folder for data (-datadir=...). 0.10 is much faster to redownload the blockchain, it took me less than 4 Hrs.

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why does new bitstamp address begin with 3 on: February 04, 2015, 10:57:51 AM
Any way of making a multisig address using electrum? or bitaddress?

With the Electrum 2.0, you can create and control a multisig wallet easily.
For details: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/RELEASE-NOTES and https://electrum.orain.org/wiki/Multisig_Wallets

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 20MB Fork on: February 04, 2015, 10:49:19 AM

I voted pro because I am for increasing max block size. But IMO it's too early to jump to 20MB. Maybe less?

It's actually about 16.8 MB, and it's very unlikely the block size will grow to anywhere near 16 MB immediately. Consider that it took 6 years for Bitcoin to go from 0 to 0.5 MB, despite the fact that the block size limit has allowed 1 MB blocks for the entire time.

Exactly! Blocks will not reach 20MB the day we hard-fork. It will take a lot of time and transactions to get there.

I totally understand. It will take very long time, that's why I personally think changing it to 20 MB now is way too early. Depending of adoption growth in the next year/few years, We can increase more later?

12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The long addresses are really annoying with all the letters and numbers... on: February 04, 2015, 10:19:24 AM
I am sure that in few years we will see other form of addresses (shorter?). I personally had an issue, where I met a buyer (For physical goods) and he wanted to pay in BTC. He didn't have any QR code reader and I wasn't able to connect to the network (to mail him my BTC address) He had to copy it manually to send the funds (he used his BTCe account to do so). Was a bit annoying

16  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Best client for importing multiple private keys? on: February 01, 2015, 11:06:48 PM
I tried Bitcoin Armory to import multiple priv. keys (few thousands). It was fast. It took about 15 mins for all the process. and the rescan was very quick.
17  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Are you feeling lucky, Punk? on: January 29, 2015, 07:35:24 PM
Ok, so how many Th/s do I need before I dare to go solo mining?

30? 50?

You can Solo mine with any amount of GHs. You could do it with even 1 GHs but you will probably never hit a block. At this current network Diff, you will need around 2 PHs to hit around 1 block / day.
