1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Recomendations for mining programs - Newbie on: September 01, 2014, 12:59:53 PM
So I know you shouldn't mine with a laptop but I just want to see if it works and how mining works for a little bit. Can you even mine with a laptop?

I tried using BFGminer but couldn't get it to work. It wasn't hashing (I think it is called) but there was other numbers on the program going up and down which I didn't know what was happening. I know I have pointed it to the pool properly because I get things saying that it has detected a new block in pool 0, but I am unable to mine. Is it down to mining on a laptop, or me incorrectly setting up the software. I was trying to mine terracoins in a pool.

What I really need is a step by step guide and reccomendations for programs to mine with. Obviously I can't mine bitcoins with a laptop so I am trying altcoins for fun. I also can't use CGminer as my security software doesn't allow me to run it.

Any advice for a newbie? If this doesn't make sense then it is probably because I don't even know what I am asking!
