1  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: bit pit - (LP, ESMPPS, 8-decimal payout, SSL, API, 0% fee, Almost 0% Stales!) on: September 18, 2011, 05:04:54 PM
the pool is down!
i wanted to know if the pool has been left on its own, no support?

I want to know this myself. I love this pool and have stuck with it from the beginning. The whole 'NodeJS' backend and the new ESMPPS system, coupled with almost 0% stales kept me hanging on. Ever since the pool started getting DDoS'd regularly and the hash rate dropped, this thread has ground to a halt. There have been no status updates on the pool since Aug 27! I know things happen, but we've been left in the dark for so long. If we knew what the issues were maybe some of us could have offered some help? I'm sad to see it just die off like this. I'm sure I'm not the only one. What's going on 1bitc0inplz?

I have also just received my 5830 from inh. Everything is installed and running great!  Grin
Thanks again inh!

I just installed your version on my 2x5830 machine and am testing it now against Bitp.it. I'm going to let it run overnight and let you know the results as soon as I get the chance. I usually average about 1-2% rejections from this pool over a 24hr period. So far, no issues and everything seems to be running smoothly. Will keep you posted.  Grin

Ok, so the results are in:

[300 Mh/s] [4456 Accepted] [1 Rejected] = 0.02% Rejected
[290 Mh/s] [4420 Accepted] [0 Rejected] = 0.00% Rejected

I have to say... awesome job!

I can't comment on what the "best" pool out there may be, because I know it all depends on circumstance and what kind of payout consistency you're looking for. I've tried a few pools with high hash contributions (and fast payouts) and those with lower numbers. Lately I've been sticking with Bitpit (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=12181.0). Their payouts are extremely consistent (as far as amount goes), but they are one of the slower pools currently out there (we generally get around 60-120 Gh/s on a given day). They are also 0% fee, but I normally tack on 1% as a donation. I currently get around 0.33BTC/day with my two 5830's, which I hear is pretty standard for my setup and the current difficulty (correct me if I'm wrong!). I'd encourage you to give it a try (add a little hashing power to the pool). I'd be curious to know what you think about it!

Do you have your mining rig plugged into a power strip / surge protector of any kind?

The reason I ask is that I was experiencing this same issue with my setup. I read somewhere on the forum that the problem could possibly be due to a power-draw issue and that the power strip was not allowing proper power to the mining rig. (I had it full of other devices - monitor, printer, laptop charger, etc.) I immediately plugged my rig directly into the wall outlet (without the power strip) and the problem went away completely. So I'm thinking there is some validity to this. The sad part is that I'm in danger of frying my mining rig during a power spike / storm until I get a power strip capable of handling it.

So if the card can support larger workgroups, more elements can be operated on with the same data, hence faster in cases where this can be leveraged.

Yet, and I am aware you did not explicitly say so, just want to point it out though, larger workgroups do not necessarily mean more Hash/s! Checked this on my card.

That's why I had the "where it can be leveraged..." part Cheesy

It also depends on other parameters. I would suspect on certain combination of memory/core speeds, a larger workgroup may take fractionally longer to load, which may then be amplified by latencies mismatches and processing time. It's like half a cycle delay means a full cycle wait on the next op kind of thing.

However on both my cards (5850,/5870), 256 is faster than 128. Which cards are you using at what clocks?

If your core clock isn't a multiple of your memory clock, try adjusting them to be. e.g. on my 5850 with 927/309 I get 377MH/s but with 927/340, I get 372 instead. Try it out for yourself, don't just trust numbers the rest of us put out because there are always differences in each of our systems.

I really appreciate this suggestion of using a multiple of your memory clock. I've been trying to find a "sweet spot" for my two Sapphire 5830's for a while and didn't even think to do that. I've been running them at 935/300 (stock voltage) (getting around 303MH/s) and just switched it to 936/312. Once my mining pool comes back online, I'll test it out and keep tweaking. Thanks for the suggestion!

Along the lines of workgroup size, using phoenix 1.5 and phatk 2.2, the difference on either of my 5830's as far as Mh/s change when using either WORKGROUP=256 or WORKGROUP=128 is negligible to about 5 MH/s, with 256 being faster. I hear that 128 is faster with 68XX series cards, or cards with higher memory clock settings, but I don't have the cards to verify.
