1  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Bitcoin is falling ? 9000?!? on: December 03, 2017, 09:08:36 PM
People were liquidating at the threshold of $10k. But now, it certainly looks like that the demand outstrips supply. 11k as I type this now.
2  Economy / Service Discussion / Hashflare Pricing- What am I missing? on: November 23, 2017, 03:08:42 PM
Alright, so at present, Hashflare is selling 10GH/s at $1.40 for their 1 year contract with a maintenance fee of 0.0035$ per 24h per 10GH/s.

Assume I buy 1 TH/s (100*10 GH/s) at $140. At present I get approximately 0.00018430 BTC per day at that rate.
This 1 TH/s keeps mining for a whole year, so I get  0.00018430*365=0.0672695 BTC by the time my 1 year contract ends which at the present rate is around $550. The maintenance would be $0.0035*100*365=$128 approximately.
So, I end up with $550-$128=$422 for an investment of $140.

Assuming that the price and difficulty remains constant, that's an ROI of 300%! Of course that's impossible. What did I miss in my calculations?

4  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Will Crash Below $3000. on: November 22, 2017, 08:17:33 PM
Too many investors now for it to go that low now. I believe it'll be at $5000 at the very least for the forseeable future.

8  Economy / Economics / Re: Is time too late on: November 05, 2017, 01:23:10 PM
Its never too late. If you want to buy, always make sure that youre buying at a trough and not at the peak for the forseeable future. For example, now btc price will increase until the fork, no doubt. However, after that for a few days, there will be a correction. If you pick yours up at that trough, hopefully the stablization will happen soon, and you will not lose anything, but may gain depending on this trend continuing.
9  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Futures Sparks Fears For Financial Crisis on: November 05, 2017, 11:51:31 AM
CME has only introduced their btc futures recently, and saying that the meteoric rise over the past few months has been because of this would be wrong. Now, while we are expecting a correction after S2X, there might be people who have invested into those futures contracts quite heavily and as such, they may mitigate the price drop of the correction and thereby manipulate the prices away from pure market forces. That would be bad because it means artifically keeping the price high, and as such, might lead to much larger crash in the future when these investors decide to pull out.
10  Economy / Economics / Re: Will CME crypto product allow bitcoin manipulation? on: November 05, 2017, 11:48:30 AM
There are definitely some sharks who will use this opportunity to play the market. Considering how CME is a mainstream institution, it will bring in a lot more people into the btc exchanges, people who will look at btc only as an investment and nothing else. If large sharks come into play, we can see the manipulation happen at larger levels and larger price ranges that we know. Its a silver lining, because while more people will enter the btc market, they dont all care about its potential as a currency or its underlying technology.
11  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Bearish] The Dangerous Reason Why Bitcoin Just Hit Yet Another New High on: November 05, 2017, 11:40:08 AM
Its true and its very reasonable to be bearish now considering the rapid price appreciation that no one anticipated in such a short time. The inevitable correction will happen, and when the investors who invest into the CME futures without knowing this see the drop, its just going to be further bad publicity for btc. As he has rightly pointed out, they dont care about the technology or about its future, only how many customers they can get while the iron is hot.
12  Economy / Economics / Re: Yes or No? Doesn't Bitcoin unfairly benefit early adopters? on: November 05, 2017, 11:36:45 AM
No, btc doesnt by its technology benefit early adopters. In fact late adopters have more of an edge as the quantity of btc decreases. Its only the market forces that are pushing btc to a higher price and the fact that early adopters are using it as an asset and not a currency as intended, something that btc has nothing to do with.
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: How much BTC will fall in 3 days after Segwit2x fork in November? on: November 05, 2017, 11:34:59 AM
It can fall to minimum of $5k, which is almost 33% less than the current value. In the very worst of circumstances, where there is confusion and non-acceptance of the S2X fork, it can still fall to a bedrock level of $2k, not lesser. The fact that it is rather well known and that a lot of people have invested into it will invariably prevent it from falling beyond the level above mentioned.
14  Economy / Speculation / Re: If you want to be rich, don't sell bitcoins, do this instead…. on: November 03, 2017, 01:26:27 PM
Lending without security is risky, especially if you look at it in the nature of an asset that is irrecoverable. Capital gains only apply after a certain slab of income, and further, as already pointed out, you would need the money irl. So, an easier way would be to continue holding your btc and trading on it on the platforms that you have mentioned, while liquidating some now and them for maximum benefit. This will also minimize your risk towards the exchanges themselves, which may cease to exist or be seized by the State.
15  Economy / Speculation / Re: Segwit2x in November on: November 03, 2017, 01:19:45 PM
What if this time the value of BTC and B2X on both chains doesn't increase, but they both suffer because of the rivalry? If history always repeated itself, wouldn't we all be rich?

It looks to me like I'd rather stay in alt-coins this time around, and let the feud pass on my portfolio. The market clearly looks overheated. Who else thinks this could end badly when looking at price development?  Smiley

Definitely could end badly if improperly managed. But that seems unlikely as all the major vendors, exchanges and wallets have committed to moving on to S2X. The market is on fire right now, and it will rapidly be put out after the fork. May go down to $5k during the correction.
16  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will be 10k in the next 6-10 months! on: November 03, 2017, 01:17:31 PM
10k, i think is a goal we should be looking at maybe by early 2019. A rapid rise like this bodes well for no one, except the sharks.Slow and steady increase throughout the year is the way to go if we want a stable asset.
17  Economy / Speculation / Re: What and Why Bitcoin Price Reached $7,000 on: November 03, 2017, 01:16:19 PM
We don't know if there will be a massive crash, but for sure there will be a correction. Now, if S2X doesnt go well, there might well be a crash, however, i feel that if properly managed, theres no reason, apart from the inevitable correction, for a crash of extreme proportions.
18  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predictions of where bitcoin will be by the the end of 2018 on: November 03, 2017, 01:13:16 PM
I would say $10k is not an unreasonable level at the end of 2018, all things considered because a strong year is most likely to be followed by a weaker one. The bulls wont run forever at this rate. But a stabilization in December and slow going on forward into and throughout the next year might slowly make $10k possible.
19  Economy / Economics / Re: Best strategy to profit from crash on: November 03, 2017, 01:11:01 PM
At this point, seeing btc below $2k is highly unlikely even in the worst of circumstances. If you remember the 2013-14 peak, it was a clear bubble, where after $1.2k, the price dropped to $300 and stagnated. In this case now, it dropped recently from $6.5k to $5.5k. Going by those trends, there is definitely going to be a correction after the fork. But it is unlikely that it will drop below $2k even in the worst of circumstances. Wait for the correction and pick up at the trough, and when it rises back up, you'll be able to profit.
20  Economy / Economics / Re: Is time too late on: November 03, 2017, 01:07:14 PM
I would suggest waiting till the end of the S2X fork because there may be a correction at around that time. If the correction is very extreme, the price may fall to around the $6k level. After that, it seems unlikely to go down any further unless there is a period of stagnation at that level. If the traded volume continues to be what it is now, there is absolutely no way it can fall beyond that.
