When better power efficiency is needed in the future due to higher network difficulties, you may want to buy some special PSUs 9V DC with more than 10A output, which will allow you to have a 0.2J/GH mining efficiency, but at lower hashing speed.
Would it be possible to do the same with the S3 models? A problem I can think of is the buck regulator in the S3. If I understand it right the S5 does not have this but runs the chips in series. Any thought on running a S3 with a 9 volt PSU instead of 12? Can it be done, what would be the effects? I would try it out but don't have a 9 volt PSU laying around. But I'm very tempted to order one.

9V at 10A is only 90 watts. You can find 9V PSU around this size, I'm looking at one now that's 16A. Wondering if I could use it on the S3?

Just throwing this out there. Bitmain mentions running the S5s with a 9 volt PSU for better efficiency. Has anybody tried this on a S3? Would it be possible? Would be nice if we could just plug in a 9 volt PSU without having to do any internal mods to the S3s. Of course I dont know whats required to run the S5s on 9 volt either.

Would it be possible to run the C1 at a lower rate by only powering some of the hashing boards? I have a S3 that had a board go bad in it and I was able to run it for a while on only one board until Bitmain was able to get me a new one. Here my main concern would be shutting down half the boards for a while during a day, when the circuit I will plugged into will need to power something else. 15 amp circuit, and this thing look like it will be drawing around half that, maybe a bit more.
