1  Economy / Scam Accusations / Don't get scammed selling a domain name! on: November 25, 2014, 01:38:37 PM
Hi All,

I received an email from "123reg.domain.request@gmail.com" who showed an interest in buying 1 of my domains. I was sceptical from the outset, simply because of the email address, but I thought I'd proceed cautiously anyway.

He seemed very knowledgeable and his English was very good, as is rarely the case in scam emails. In this exchange, he went by the name of Anthony Scott of Cloud VP Hosting and asked for confirmation of ownership etc. He then goes on to say that all is fine an he wants to proceed with the purchase, however, and here's the sting, he needs an independent certification certificate verifying certain details. I pointed out that all the info he requires was available publically, as in trade mark registers, whois.com etc. etc., but he won't complete the purchase without the Cert!

I had a look at the site "http://dn-tools.domain-certificates.com/certification.htm", and funnily enough, you can actually click all the way through to the payment screen without actually having provided any details, not one!

Needless to say, there was no transaction, however I can see how some may actually fall for this.

Just thought I would let you all know.

Cheers,

Hi, I am selling the above and at present, I have an offer of £800 in BTC. I also have 6 other domains of the same name, but .org, .net, .info, .im. .uk & .co.uk, along with an active twitter account (@coingovernance) with followers growing by the day. I am based on the Isle of Man and given the fact that the Isle of Man Government are pushing hard to have BTC widely adopted on the Island, to the extent they want to let residents pay tax bills etc in BTC, this site is going to be worth a lot of money to the right individual / business.

I have not yet agreed to the current offer as I think, given the current landscape, this is as much of a Premium Level Domain as you can get. I have seen some ridiculous domains go for silly prices.

So, if you're interested, you can add me on Twitter and PM me, reply to this thread or you can email info@satoshiservices.im.

I said I would either accept or decline the current offer within the next few days. At first I wasn't going to sell at all, but TBH, I have obviously now decided to so that I can put the proceeds back into crypto, whatever I eventually decide to sell this suite for.

Thanks for reading and if interested, I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a great day!

Hi, I am new here and this is my first post so apologies if this is posted in the wrong place, or if this type of thing should be posted here at all!

Firstly, just to clarify, I would like to say I am not a domain squatter, I have a genuine interest in crypto, although I have only been involved since May. Since then, I now own approx 10 different coins and love the technology and where it's going.

Basically my question is this, I own the above site and 6 other domains of the same name along with an active Twitter account (@coingovernance). I have been approached by an individual who is setting up a business which my site/twitter will directly impact, in fact, my name is much better for that market. After some haggling, we settled on a figure of £800 or the equivelant in BTC, which would be my preffered payment method. I have not outright agreed to this yet and in all honesty, seeing what some really silly sole domains go for, I think this is well under priced.

I am based on the Isle of Man, and as you are likely aware, it has welcomed BTC with open arms and is working hard to get it widely adopted asap, to the point of residents being able to pay their car tax / income tax etc in BTC! So in the coming months this site and twitter account will be worth a hell of a lot more, in my opinion anyway.

So does anybody on here have experience in such matters? Should I hold out, should I sell. I think that these are as top level a domain as you can get, given its relevance along with the current influx of businesses into the Isle of Man.

Basically, which is obviously clear, I don't have the experience and would love some input from someone who is better versed in such matters. My heart is telling me to hold out at least for a couple of k, in BTC or cash. With cash I can always buy BTC anyway, either way, it can then fund the other things I want to do in the Crypto world!

Anyway, I would very much appreciate any input anyone out there can provide, it will be massively helpful, no matter what you have to say!
