You have to love these S3 miners. They are built really well. I am still using 4 of them in my farm until I get something like an Avalon 6 or better to replace them.
ya must have free power then.... cause right now 4 of them would only get ya $40 a month

well I'm officially done with my S3+ and shut it down, its not profit able anymore, the latest difficulty jump just changed my $25 a month to $10 a month, so its offciially dead now.
all together in my time owning it I probably made around $800 - $900 on it and I bought the unit for $200, so it paid for itself fairly well.
also its the summer time so it will be nice to keep my room cooler not having it running anymore

seems these S3+ minors still have life left in them thanks to the bitcoin price raise, making around $25 a month now.

is thier any new pools I am suppose to switch to and get payments faster? cause all of a sudden my S3+ now takes 5 or 6 days to get 0.01 BTC instead of 2 days like before
was thier a big spike in bitcoin difficulty or am I just on a bad pool now? I'm using bitcoin.cz
Diff has gone up and S3 is not very effective. If you don't have very cheap electricity it's not profitable anymore. Changing pool won't help this. Yea I was afraid of this I can't afford a 1TH miner, and my S3 only makes $25 a month now

At first I thought my 2nd S3+ was in a smokey environment but it turns out I must have been simply pushing my power supply too hard... Had both of the miners running off of a CX750M and I saw smoke coming from the pci-e port on the psu... So any recommendations for a psu that will run both without catching fire or something...? Probably 1000w at least?
Yes a 1000w is recommended for 2 units. also be sure to use 4 dedicated cables for each unit when overclocking, it looks to me like you were only using 2 cables on the unit and thats why one of them fried Thanks for the help! Probably will go with the EVGA G2 1000 and hope for the best this time around...
Good choice, I use a coolermaster 1000w for my S3, I also have a 750w G2 for my main computer, EVGA power supplies are great, 10 year warranty too

whats going on with ghash.io? servers have been down for several hours (the mining ones, not the site)
had to switch to multipool.us for now.

if the fuses are blowing that easy, my guess is the wall violtage, are you sure you aren't use a 110v unit on a 220 plug? I know some parts of the world have to use 220 for power on everything, where as those in USA can use 110 and 220

I'm only mining on 1 S3 so far, so only around $65 a month I am getting
If you don't mind sharing can you tell me where you are mining that makes you $65 a month? Thanks. he/she is getting $65, not MAKING $65, unless at a college dorm or in zero electricity cost apartment. My mom covers the power bill so I am making the whole $65 :p its about right for a single S3+ unit.

I'm only mining on 1 S3 so far, so only around $65 a month I am getting, but gotta start somewhere, I'm working on getting a second one soon.
the first 1 or 2 miners take a while to pay off but once you start going for 3+ its gets faster and faster.

I am having a little trouble with one of my S3's. I was updating the firmware and the unit lost power during it. I have tried the reset settings with reset button but I have not been able to fix it.
With losing power during update am I now out of luck with unit where it's a hardware issue or am I just not doing reset right?
Losing power during a firmware update will brick the unit. sorry for the loss. This is why I choose not to update the firmware ever especially if it hasn't paid itself off yet.... maybe after it pays itself off I will take the risk, cause that way I won't be out the buying cost of the unit.

Keep in mind this fan will block the Lan Port on the S3, so only run these if you plan to run wireless. I was gonna get these but decided against it because someone else here mentioned that issue to me and I prefer to stay on LAN. use just one silverstone it works so well that the stock fan you keep runs slower. so your saying just one as an exaust will keep the stock intake at a slower speed? didn't think about that, nice I will give it a try then.

do you have it connected through a router? the router should show what network IP its using

Received my 4 s3's 3 fire up fine, however 1 is displaying the following. Ive swapped PSU's and cables Opened up and swapped chain cables around and still only chain 1 fires up. Anyone seen this problem and any advice? Cheers if resetting the power doesn't fix it then I would RMA the unit, at times one of my boards stops working too after 1 - 2 weeks of uptimes and so far thats all I had to do to fix it.

I think that I would like to set one of my S3 to solo mine just because.
What is the code or changes to the user interface is needed? When I try to enter my node IP and port, username, and password, all I get is 'dead'. I think that I need to add the "--btc-address [address]" option but can't via the normal S3 interface.
I'm running a full node with:
server=1 listen=1 rpcport=8332 rpcuser=user rpcpassword=pass rpcallowip=192.168.1.200
you could always save yourself the bother and use http://solo.ckpool.org?Wow. Thanks. I never knew that this existed. Paying 0.5% is a tiny and very fair fee. For everyone else, here is the thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763510.msg8604106#msg8604106no worries, i have a couple of rigs in a unit with free electric so i figured, what the heck, why not the problem is it could take 1000 years before you find a block.. and in that time you are losing money because 2 s3s still make 4.50$ per day in BTC. +1 Pool mining is just better due to faster payments (even if it is shared), also I can see my stats to be sure its working ok.

Only issue I had with my S3+ so far is one of the mining boards shuts off once in while, doing a power reset fixes it though
Though this issue seems to be disappearing the more I run it, at first it happened within a couple days, then it happened with a week, then it happened with 2 weeks, its like the miner is breaking in or something, seems to last longer before each time it happens.

What is the maximum temperature an Antminer S3 ASIC can run at without degrading the hardware?
You should keep it between 50 and 60 C or less. My S3+ at stock speed runs between 40 and 50C in over 30C ambient temps. Over 70 C is bad for the hardware. Unless you disable it, the firmware will turn the miner off if either chain temp reaches 80 C. thats a bit on the high side for stock, mine is at 453Ghz stock as well, one board is at 41c and other is at 35c Ambient room temp has a big affect. If aircon is on temps are much lower. Anything below 50 C is quite safe. Usually in mid 40s when no aircon is on. Room heats up to 32 C with Antminer running and no aircon on. yea my Room is 76F (24c) right now and still only around the 35 - 40c range, will find out how it runs when summer hits next year
