3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Blowing the lid off the CryptoNote/Bytecoin scam (with the exception of Monero) on: March 04, 2015, 03:04:20 AM
There's also the matter of cryptozoidberg's nickname. In the Bytecoin code there's the BYTECOIN_NETWORK identifier, which according to the comment is "Bender's nightmare" (hurr durr, such funny, 11100111110001011011001210110110 has a 2 in it). Now this may be a little bit of conjecture, yo, but the same comment appears twice in the "epee" contributed library, once in the levin signature, and again in the portable storage signature. The contexts are so disconnected and different that it would be a fucking stretch to imagine that the same person did not write both of these. We can also rule out this being a Bytecoin-specific change, as the "Bender's nightmare" comments exist in the original epee library on github (which is completely unused anywhere on the planet except in Bytecoin, most unusual for a library that has any usefulness, and was first committed to github on February 9, 2014).

If I run bitmonered.exe am I running a node when it syncs? I want to help support this community any way I can and that, for now, seems the best support I can offer.

Yes that is right, and if you type start_mining in the wallet you will be solo mining as well (mostly supports the network but you might get lucky and win a block). Usually the best number of threads to use is the L3 cache size of your CPU divided by 2 MB.

Thanks for all the help everyone. If I run the miner in the wallet I will be helping the community more, but will that burn out anything on my laptop? I dont care if Im successful in obtaining a block, I just want to help and dont want to f up my computer.....it cost me 800$....alot more than Ill get from ANY mining I might be capable of...how do I change the number of threads ? Step my step cuz Im slow like a four yr old type talk please. Thank you so much....

Best way I have found to run a node and help the network: https://getmonero.org/getting-started/running Smiley

Really enjoyed the new missives format Smiley

Amazing work being done here, I'm genuinely flabbergasted by the level of commitment and innovation around this project from the many people involved.

oh I get him, he is already a billionaire and has no plans to become one with a Bitcoin, also he is not a fanatic, the blockchain can be used to create better money than Bitcoin.

Do we have an agreement that price rise is beneficial for Monero at large?

I mean - it's not difficult to let the price rise. We just end price suppression and let it be marketed, right?

It is a different thing if we are talking big money. But now, the next 12 months, we are talking about ~$1 million total. I sell my castle and buy every single monero that is mined over the next 365 days. Why are we speculating about a thing that's essentially a decision?

There are developments that may be lifting the price a big percentage, and they may have already started, or happen in 1-2 months.

Is that what we want?

No way rpietila, I hope you not serious about selling your stuff, you single hand contributed a lot to this project already, I think low prices are good for adoption while the inflation is still high, It would be good if we did not breach 0.0009 tho so noone could get a disproportionate ammount of coins.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DRK vs XMR warez on: February 22, 2015, 02:32:51 AM
Monero already won, you can all stop pretending an instamined scam even matter at this point.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 21, 2015, 06:08:31 PM

Personally, I think that the most likely scenario is that XMR will definitely beat out DRK/DOGE/PPC within 5 years and become a TOP-5 cryptocurrency behind perhaps litecoin/ethereum/bitshares  with at least 3% of the overall 400 billion dollar crypto market cap, which would be $666.666/XMR, so I'm actually more optimistic than you. At that point, I become an Ultra-high net worth individual (if bitcoin hasn't already made me one) so we should definitely have a $100/XMR party.

I can now say I'm with you on this one, I've waited a considerable ammount of time after the Monero release before start buying, I watched the entire thing from the suppose exploit to the mega-dumps that are lot less frequent now. I was hoping for something "better" to be released after some months but I don't think this will be happening now, the only competitor (DRK) only has a higher marketcap because they changed the emission curve to screw over new adopters and their technology is not good, its very weak from a technical view point. From what I could gather the cryptonote project is still mysterious but was in the making for several years, and the community fork lead by the Monero core team is really shining next to everything else.
11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CNN Inside Man bitcoin episode review! Share your opinions! on: February 20, 2015, 07:47:35 PM
Here is how I imagine it happening: old Rockefeller or whoever is in the control looks at Bitcoin and says: "holy shit you mean we can track everyone using this forever and basically assume control of the network with enough equipment, shill it to the moon!"

thats how mainstream came to love and accept Bitcoin.

Monero got a deserving first-spot mention in this letstalkbitcoin blog-post:

I like the example they used to illustrate Monero, its perfect Cheesy

np, I should have myself clear, I want to avoid useless confrontation with other Coins because the winner is clear right now and I have put my money where I put my words (XMR). The problem is others are playing a dangerous game of promissing something it can not really deliver, and I think people should get a bit mad with these false marketings because they are bound to hurt its own investors and users in the future when pressure will be applied on crypto.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: November 21, 2014, 10:54:16 PM

Would you rather have a tested coin with solid code and fair release, or an instamined coin that will most likely be a victim of its own marketing when its first real test is the FBI breaking its code and sending some darkweb operators (very publicly) to clink?

I view the other coin as a ticking time bomb, it has no solid privacy at all, for any 3 letter agency it will be cake walk to extract vital identifying info.

Its a matter of time, and shows that they are on the game only for a quick buck.

No point in witness price surge if you did not bought low. Smooth emission will guarantee dumpers will run out of XMR by the time it will make even more sense for the price go up (wallet gui release, etc) Smiley

First post ? Welcome!

Thank you! :-)

I really like what I see here. If only Monero was "easy" to use like the Bitcoin wallets.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: November 10, 2014, 06:30:53 PM

Actually, we need the I2P integration, Monero is very interesting, I risk to say its the most privacy enhancing cryptocurrency ever created, this cryptonote is a real gem.

Very glad to be onboard.
