It's been my experience that McAfee doesn't like to be uninstalled. They leave little bits of McAfee all over your system to antagonize you so that you reinstall it. I had to search the registry for "McAfee," to find all the instances of it that remained after I tried to uninstall it. And I had to be careful that I wasn't deleting some other program that simply had the word "McAfee" in it. I suspect there are programs that will clean it out of your registry safely. Find one and download it. But check that it isn't a virus itself. Do you think they create those after the trial ends? Would it be a good idea to uninstall while the trial is still active? Maybe that would avoid the creating of the registry files?

Hello, Recently I've bought a new Laptop (windows11professional) that came pre-installed with McAfee antivirus. I spent some time reading reviews online and decided I want to use Windows Defender instead. https://allthings.how/how-to-disable-or-uninstall-mcafee-on-windows-11/#:~:text=Now%20it%20is%20definitely%20better,imperative%20to%20uninstall%20McAfee%20antivirus. https://nerdschalk.com/how-to-uninstall-mcafee-on-windows-11-5-ways/To uninstall it I will use info from these two guides. However I still have some questions they haven't clearly or completely addressed. 1. Should I turn off all McAfee services prior to uninstalling? 2. Should I set Windows Defender as the default AV before doing #1? 3. Should I be doing #1 or #2 or both online or offline? 4. Will Windows Defender and Firewall automatically take over the tasks or do I need to do something? Those are the main ones for now. And also I would like to know if there is any Win11Pro Antivirus you would recommend that most importantly can be purchased by Crypto or even Skrill/Neteller and preferably has a one-time lifetime payment option. I find that using credit cards online is super susceptible to fraud and am baffled as to why any of these major companies don't have more payment options. I guess because they cant push auto-renewal on those. Thank You in advance for all your future help.

I have installed it with just the one signature this time I might get the other ones imported at a later time but as you said if its not a big deal theres no need to. Anyway NeuroticFish I did actualy have all the important updates that got released to my machine I just refused to do any of the optional ones because I had traumas in the past doing those. It does however seem like I mentioned in one of the earlier posts that this late february 2022 version 14.29.30133.0 update was infact what was needed to successfully run latest electrum versions. I would like to take the time to thank you and everyone else that took the time and helped me with their suggestions

I decided to try the lastest version and I get this when try to verify sig. https://prnt.sc/crO-KsAVtCkoShould I have all the 3 signatures imported? What should I be doing in this situation? Help EDIT: Or is this normal since I only have that one imported in Kleopatra? and is it OK to proceed with this screen? I have a feeling this is normal but would just like confirmation from some more experienced users

I just checked in control panel programs and features and I have Microsoft Visual C++ 7 version updates named 2005 Redistributable or ATL Update kb973923 x64 (and x86) installed in 2013 Then I have 5 of them named 2008 installed at the same dates in 2013 (theres one date in 2012 though in both cases) then 2010 installed 2013&2014 2012 installed in 2014 2013 installed in 2015 2015-2019 installed late february 2022 version 14.29.30133.0
So I do have this required program. Perhaps this last update in 2022 was required to get electrum newer versions working.
Maybe I should just try updating electrum again without any other steps taken and it will work!?!?!?!?!?!

To install the KB2999226 there are prerequisites.
Prerequisites To install this update, you must have April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. Or, install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Or, install Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and for Windows Server 2008.
I also dont know if I have this 2919355 done.
Should I do that one then the first one? It wont do any harm if I already have them?
edit: oh wow the later one comes with a huge list of errors and hotfixes Im definately too scared to do it.
And if I just do the first one without having the prerequisite also seems wrong.

I have been happy holding and havent attempted using or updating since the last time I posted.
I would like to ask if there are any of you still able to use updated versions of electrum on Win 8.1 to please confirm here that it is possible so I know if it is an individual issue or a general one.
I don't have windows 8.1 installed, so I can't test for myself. However, I have just checked electrum website ( https://electrum.org/panel-download.html) The latest version is compatible with Windows 8.1. But, there is a warning here: Old versions of Windows might need to install the KB2999226 Windows update. Do you have KB2999226 Windows update installed? It is a "Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows" https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/update-for-universal-c-runtime-in-windows-c0514201-7fe6-95a3-b0a5-287930f3560cI have all the recommended updates. However I dont do optional ones. In optional I have KB3013769 KB3013816 KB3084905 KB3102429 they are from 2014 2015 2016 the others are for drivers which I am too afraid to do because last time I did my laptop wouldnt turn on and needed a fresh windows reinstall. Should I install them 1 by 1 in chronological order? I have checked my update history and It only goes as far back as early 2021 so I dont know if I have the one you mentioned.

It is the same as other people experienced on Windows 7(and me as well) that they can't able to use a higher version than 3.3.8. If the Bitmover suggestion does not work your last hope is to upgrade your OS to Windows 10 which have better security, feature, and support than Windows 8.1(it will end support next year) and all new version of Electrum should be working as I tested them. Can you tell us the reason why you don't want to upgrade it to Windows 10 since they already suggested it many times from old replies here? System requirements? If it is just for the files then upgrading does not delete old files it should be still there on your hard drive after an upgrade. Out of fear that I will mess something up. Compatability might be an issue too I dont know for sure. If I knew everything would go fine and be working afterwards and that I would be able to set up future updates on manual instead auto I would do it. The current plan is to get a new laptop get everything working there then upgrade old one. Which windows should I get the new one with? 11 12? whats the freshest and best now?

Ive done some more reading on possible solutions for the newer versions not running and found some thread claiming the issue is caused by not having mandatory ASLR configured and that executables that have it opted out as a default fail to launch.
Im too tired to do anything more about it tonight but am going to try and find this option in the settings somewhere and see if it helps tomorrow.

All the transaction history etc is stored on the blockchain... unless the blockchain disappears or you lose access to your private keys, then your coins are going to be just fine As far as the private keys are concerned, as long as you have your 12 word Electrum seed (or a copy of the wallet file and the wallet password), you'll be able to recover those. It might be a bit of a hassle, but have you considered upgrading to Windows 10? While the offer "officially" expired... I am fairly certain you can still get the upgrade for free. (note that the story was revised in Jan 2021!) Oh thank you for this article. Might consider doing this. Do you know if it would also work for my old laptop running on Windows XP?

my unclaimed BCH and BTG and all those coins wont be afected by the wallet restoring i did? Those can all still be claimed at a later time when i get around to the hassle of emptying the wallet first for security reasons?

I really hope that they will though as so many users apsolutely hate win10 cause the updates dont ask to be updated and just decide to get on with it regardless if youre busy doing something or not.

Thank you I will try and see if i have these installed already or not. I do updates regularly but might be possible these havent been done. I have donloaded and restored back the 3.3.8 version and it works. Have missed out on a lot of work already cause of this and going to continue the update process some other time.

I am trying all of the 3 for the previous releases too.. went back to 4.0.7 now and still cant open it. i double click. the blue circle spins for some seconds and stops and nothing happens.

from the previous releases page should i get the
[ ] electrum-4.0.8-setup.exe 2020-12-17 18:23 27M [TXT] electrum-4.0.8-setup.exe.asc 2020-12-17 18:23 833
I will not advice for the old versions. But, to your question, you will click on Electrum-4.0.8.0-arm64-v8a-release.apk to get the file to be downloaded. Click on the version you want, and click on .apk for the download. Im confused. Isnt that one for Android users?
