2  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 11, 2015, 03:05:59 AM
Good News - Just received my Avalon 6!!!
Bad News -  It's missing the LED Dongle that I see you guys showing so I can't connect it to the PI controller!  Just called the vendor to fix the issue ASAP.

<a href="http://s482.photobucket.com/user/nhando1977/media/20151210_190023_resized_zps2grlorgb.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/rr187/nhando1977/20151210_190023_resized_zps2grlorgb.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20151210_190023_resized_zps2grlorgb.jpg"/></a>

Newbie question - Is this a proprietary dongle  / connector or is there some other places I can grab 1 quick to reduce my lack of patience waiting.

Next Question for preparation is :

1) Is there a specific order that I need to power up these things.  (i.e. Controller first and then the Avalon / Hashboards)
2) Does it really matter which of the 6 VGA / PCI-E port I connect from the back of the EVGA G2 1300W PSU?  I'm currently using the bottle 4 and single PCI, skipping the dual cables.
3) To connect to the Avalon 6, I only need to look up the DHCP address on my router and then point the browser to that IP address like the Antminer or is there a different procedure for these PI controllers?
4) What does the LED, Blue, Yellow, Red on the Dongle you show means.  Does it matter which port, top or bottle from the Daisy chain connector from the Avalon to the LED controller / PI?  What does the LED color below these Daisy chain cable represent?

thanks for your help.

hmmm, did we buy from the same vendor, I wonder. Mine was missing the data cable.

1) Is there a specific order that I need to power up these things.  (i.e. Controller first and then the Avalon / Hashboards)
----doesn't matter.
2) Does it really matter which of the 6 VGA / PCI-E port I connect from the back of the EVGA G2 1300W PSU?  I'm currently using the bottle 4 and single PCI, skipping the dual cables.
----not really, just use ports marked as  VGA
3) To connect to the Avalon 6, I only need to look up the DHCP address on my router and then point the browser to that IP address like the Antminer or is there a different procedure for these PI controllers?
----need to find RPi's IP address, I went to router setup page to find RPi's IP address
4) What does the LED, Blue, Yellow, Red on the Dongle you show means.  Does it matter which port, top or bottle from the Daisy chain connector from the Avalon to the LED controller / PI?  What does the LED color below these Daisy chain cable represent?
---anything but red is ok, port doesn't matter.

You might check on who you bought from see if same re-seller it's not vendor but possibly re-seller.  I have gotten from BlockC and Ehash and there were no issues at all.

Sorry, I meant same reseller. It appears that resellers are doing the packing before shipping out the miner, mine came in a homedepot box but the miner was in a nice small box inside. RPi was outside of the small box and it is where the reseller failed to ship all connectors.

Ironic that it's a benefit to use the Pi instead of a proprietary controller, yet the Avalon is dependent on some proprietary USB converter board that nobody can locate...

This will be my last update. Sorry to keep resurrecting this thread. I've been tinkering around a bit on my free time with php and learning how these phishing sites work. I guess that's just the personality traits of our type of people.

I've recreated a test site using fanbitcoin.com's copied source code, exploited the php to capture the "user" and "passwrd" fields, then I've attempted to return a server 404 like their host cloudflare.com does. It's not possible.

Once the php script begins to process, you either land on a blank page or get redirected to whatever page is specified in the "header('Location: http://site.com');" It's not possible to have the webserver display it's internal 404 (notice the URL doesn't change on cloudflare) since php is responsible for serving the header and the specific 404 page URL once it begins processing.

This is the best explanation I've found:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/437256/why-wont-my-php-app-send-a-404-error

I created a test site and setup the cloudflare CDN. With "smarterrors" enabled, I can pass a "header("HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found");" at the bottom of the php code, after intercepting the username password, and cloudflare will throw it's 404 page.

Fair warning: CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD!

Probably phishing. Why would you make a mirror, when everyone can use the official site? :-/

One way or another, stay well away. Seems phishy (Geddit)

I'm guessing the domain name or IP for bitcointalk.org is banned in other countries and this mirror provides a portal for foreign readers. I'm investigating whether my original password was possibly stolen for different reasons. I have changed my initial password BTW.

The mirror is hosted on cloudflare out of California and using their SSL cert. Although the domain owner is hidden, it's someone out of Panama.

From what I can tell so far, it looks like they mirrored this site but did not take any of the PHP forms with it. They also don't use any javascript beside a Shopify stat counter at the bottom of every page:

• The login form from the home page uses PHP to POST a "user" and "passwrd" value to fanbitcoin.com/index.php?action=login2, the same behavior as bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=login2
• Bitcointalk then uses javascript to process the "user" value "frmLogin" See http://screencast.com/t/mvVDGvbaA
• Fanbitcoin lacks the javascript to process any value "frmLogin" See http://screencast.com/t/P1fDKgQ6Zs2L

Could anyone speculate if bfgminer 5.4.1 will control this unit? It does show Avalon drivers:
http://screencast.com/t/suU6cR5wlc

I'm currently running Entware-ng (alternative to Optware for OpenWRT) on a ASUS RT-N66U router with an Antminer U2 connected to the back USB port. It works great with the serial silabs CP2101.ko driver. There is no cgminer, but the latest version of the bfgminer package is maintained by Entware-ng:
http://entware.zyxmon.org/binaries/mipsel/Packages.html

I'm thinking I could patch a USB cable from the router directly to the Avalon miner.

On the 4.1 I know a certain TPlink worked - https://ehash.com/product/tp-link-tl-wr703n-contrlloer-suite/ .  It was able to control the 4.1's.  I don't have one to test as far as using it for a 6.  So far they have just advertised the B and B+ RPI.

Which the RPI turns out to be a pretty good controller. Using one on 3 avalon 4.1's, and on an Avalon 6 and both working great.  I really like the RPI as a controller.

Thanks for leading me down the documentation rabbit hole!

The Antminer U2 uses a sillabs serial controller. I have to load the cp2101.ko kernel object at router boot time to recognize the U2 that uses a USB to serial interface (/dev/ttyUSB0.) Then bfgminer will use that device using antminer:all in the config.

I've been looking into the Avalon 6 wiki (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Avalon6) to find out what the board interface uses. I'm guessing it's a standard USB controller and the router would recognize the miner without loading any extra kernel objects. I bet I could just use avalon:all in bfgminer config.

I don't know if I'm willing to pay $1500 to find out. I do have Raspberry Pi 2 that's not getting used. That should be compatible mid Decemeber according to the wiki btw!

I do give you some kudos on wanting to learn the inner workings.  Love to see people get interested in a piece of hardware and really look into it.

On the controller I probley would just stick with what they is tried and approved.  Honestly the RPI B and B+ can run 50 machines if needed..... that is a lot of power really to be able to do that.  The miners being able to make a chian is nice for a commercial setting with tons of miners.

For those of us with a few i honestly don't think RPI B vs RPI 2 will make much of a difference.   Only really boot time is quicker... but you don't boot the RPI that often it stay's on for day's/weeks/maybe months.  So really RPI B or B+ is going to be perfect for almost all users.

I definitely love tinkering and making $. That's why I'm here!  Wink

I'm interested in controlling the Avalon with the router or the Pi 2 since I already have bfgminer on the router and I have a spare Pi 2 kicking around I'd like to put to good use. I know a Pi is super cheap anyway, just trying to repurpose what I already have as a controller to ROI quicker (if ever.)

I'm sure you're right that it's more than enough horsepower though!

It looks like Avalon previously used the ftdi_sio driver for UART. I bet they still do too! This is loaded at boot time with TomatoUSB (my router firmware.)

With Avalon supported by bfgminer (installed via Entware packaged mentions before,) I'm getting really close to pulling the trigger and giving this a shot! So much $ though!

I wish that Google was smart enough to notice this copying and ban the copycat sites.

I just attempted a login.

You should change your password here just in case.

Thanks for the reply, Theymos! Will do!

I just attempted a login.

The site pulled up in a Google search for the Avalon 6. I saw it was using HTTPS, I assumed a secure signed TLS certificate was secure enough, and I entered my credentials.

I was redirected to a cloudflare error page: "The page you are looking for cannot be found":

Does anyone know if the PHP POST for "hash_passwrd" on the submit button could have passed the password to the phisher man?:

I'm guessing if it did there would have been some sort of confirmation of the submission (and Chrome password manager would have prompted to save it for the site.)

Thanks guys.

Hello again,

I've setup a Tomato development environment for Shibby's latest build using GitHub. I built the 2.6.22.19 kernel with the Silicon Labs cp2101 driver option enabled as a module in the .config file. I then extracted the cp2101.ko.

If you want to use this kernel object, you can find it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9zGF2pK75nCUmEzZE5obTlCVFk/view?usp=sharing

Simply put it in your /opt directory if you mount Optware or Entware FS at boot time. In the web GUI, set Tomato to load the usbserial (included in firmware image at /lib/modules/2.6.22.19/kernel/drivers/usb/) and cp2101 kernel objects after boot with insmod. Use lsmod to make sure the kernel objects loaded. The device mounts to /dev/ttyUSB0. Make sure it is using the driver with "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices." The result should be "Driver=cp2101."

Alternatively you can use a firmware extract tool, insert the cp2101.ko into /lib/modules/2.6.22.19/kernel/drivers/usb/, rebuild, and call on usbserial and cp2101 kernel objects with insmod in the web GUI.

You can run bfgminer command line or JSON config file, just reference the /dev/ttyUSB0 device.

I'm currently hashing 2 GH/s or 1uBTC/hr!

One more feather in the cap for embedded Linux!

This is my first post on bitcointalk. Thanks for your work on BFGminer! Also, thanks to Bitcoin Talk for creating such a knowledge rich forum! I've been reading and following many threads. Cryptocurrency is very interesting!

A little background:

I'm currently trying to setup a single Antminer U2 USB on an ASUS RT-N66U. I know I will never achieve an ROI, but my router is always on and I want to contribute to the bitcoin community and mine the blockchain.

This router has Shibby's latest TomatoUSB firmware + Entware + OPKG package manager. However, TomatoUSB, Entware, and OPKG do not provide the kernel driver I need for the Antminer U2 (kmod-usb-serial-cp210x.)

I believe I would have to compile these kernel drivers for Entware or request to have them built into TomatoUSB?

The big question:

Would someone be willing to compile the cp210x.ko for the Tomatousb 2.6.22.19 kernel or an .ipk for kmod-usb-serial & kmod-usb-serial-cp210x for Entware with MIPS architecture? I believe if I had this kernel driver or package I could insmod it or install them using OPKG and mine away!

All input is welcome!

Happy 2015!
