I'd like to pledge 1 BTC, and I've sent it to the address.  Because I don't always check on here often, I wanted to pre-donate for at least the first charity.

(but since it's the first time I've ever actually sent coins, I'm a little confused since now the bitcoin client is showing a new address for me. Is that just because it generates a new address every time you send coins?  Makes it a little confusing to know what address to tell people to expect the coins from, eh?  Ah, it's probably just me with cobwebs in the brain...)

I like this idea, but I have a question that I don't quite understand:

Would the price of the bond/coupon (and therefore the underlying implicit USD/EUR-BTC exchange rate) be regularly pegged to the MtGox exchange rate?  OOr does this only happen at the initial setup and we then have effectively a "new" independent exchange rate, depending on the currently trading prices of the bond/coupon on the public exchanges?

My BTC take over the last 24-36 hrs on slush was also "unlucky" (see posts above) BUT I've been doing the merged mining since he switched over and I can say that over that longer period (many days) my BTC take has been about what is expected, and the NMC mining gives a 30-40% boost in total income if you convert it directly.

I think it's a no brainer and have switched all my miners to slush's pool (I was mining across several pools before now)

Now simplecoin appears to be down (at least for me) Anyone else having problems?  Slush is now back up, did the attackers move their attack, or is simplecoin just being updated again? 

Ah, that explains it, I was looking for coins to be paid when blocks were found, but it makes a lot more sense that they are paid when they are confirmed. I guess it just worked out that a few blocks were confirmed at just about the same time new blocks were found right when I started, and I saw the payments made and jumped to the wrong conclusion. Thanks for the info.

Just joined the pool last night, coming from a proportional pool, I'm loving the pps!

But I seem to have a bug with the payments. It is reporting an Earned PPS after about 15 hrs of 0.18BTC, which seems right, but the paid PPS has been stuck on about 0.042BTC for about 9 hours, despite the pool solving several blocks in that time frame. My payout percentage has been listed around 0.04%, which also seems about right. Right below this my "next payout amount" is listed as about 0.016BTC.

Shouldn't I have received a small payment with each of the recent blocks being found, or am I just misunderstanding how the SMPPS system works?

That's pretty slick, and I like the pictures, but I'm curious why you don't show a picture of a broken open coin anywhere?  I know I was left wondering what they look like inside after reading the description.

How exactly do you know who has done mining work for you, and how will you pay out?  (if it smells like a trap...)

I say go for the 6870.  I don't know where people get their prices, but if you find a deal like http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3293164 you can get a 6870 for $150 after rebate, and even sell the free games for another $25 back or so.  I'm getting 290 MH/s with my 6870, and it only draws about 140 W (according to my kill-a-watt) above my baseline system, so you could probably even do two of them on your power supply.

Based on that 290Mh/s at $150, that's 1.933 Mh/s/$, and more than 2.07 Mh/s/watt, which is just about as good as I've seen for any card combination if you just want to do some basic mining with a regular PC.

Everybody else - please let me know if you're actually getting super deals on used 5XXX cards, I just haven't been able to find them.

This thread is hilarious!   How can I find more threads like this instead of the worthless bickering that happens in most trolling threads?  There needs to be some sort of thread ranking system, this would get my vote!

I dunno, I signed up for a Dwolla account on Saturday, and am still waiting on the Dwolla "confirmation payments" into my WellsFargo checking account so that I can then load money into Dwolla to even start.

I realize that it was a holiday weekend so I'm not being impatient, it's just funny because Dwolla keeps sending me daily emails telling me to "go check your bank account to confirm our confirmation payments!"

Since it wasn't directly answered above, I'll also tell you that you can find a conversion rate for BTC/$ at any of the exchanges, and a site like http://www.bitcoincharts.com will show you an overview of the latest exchange prices.

Use the calculator provided above to see how many BTC/day you could mine, and you'll see that if things work out well (prices stay the same or go up, difficulty stays the same or lower) then you could be making $1.53/day before electricity costs!   

Of course if you're like me, you can "justify" buying a new computer/new graphics card (6870 for $185) on the assumption that you needed a new graphics card, and hey, if you make any money back mining with it, good for you.

If I drop to 11.6 Catalyst drivers will it reduce my MHash/s? 

I have 11.8 Catalyst drivers and get good MHash/s but one core is locked full too.

Also what fan control are you guys using?  With my XFX 6870, if I leave fan control on auto, it will stay at 35% fan and let the temp get up to 84 deg C, so I manually set it at 50% to drop the temps to about 78 deg C.  What are reasonable maximum temps for 24/7 operation, and will I wear out the fans at a 50% speed 24/7?
