1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Call for Contributions: Bitcoin Weekend at the London Hackspace, 24/25 Sept 2011 on: September 08, 2011, 01:48:32 PM
I'm with the London Hackspace, a non-profit hackerspace in North-East London.

A few weeks ago I met Amir Taaki (genjix) of the Bitcoin Consultancy and asked him to give a talk. This has now gradually morphed into a full weekend of Bitcoin-related talks, discussions, and workshops. It will take place on the weekend of 24/25 Sept at the London Hackspace. We're quite excited about it; there have been very few Bitcoin contributor meetings so far, even outside the UK. We'll try to record the talks and will make the videos public.

I don't want to have a revolutionary attitude about Bitcoin, I'm more interested in a sober account of the system and the community. For an outsider like myself it seems like a grand worthwhile experiment, but judging by what I learned so far it's also becoming hard to get past the hysteria, so I'm trying to use this event to bring some clarity. It'll also be a great opportunity to meet new people from different backgrounds (e.g. atm I'm talking to a few local economists.)

A full invitation will follow soon, but for now we're looking for people interested in giving talks, holding workshops, or contributing in other ways.

Hoping to hear from you!

About the organisation:

The London Hackspace was founded in January 2009 and grew incredibly quickly; we now have more than 300 paying members and supporters, even more people visiting casually, a highly active IRC channel and mailing list, a decent amount of manufacturing kit (3D printers, laser cutter, lathes, milling machine etc), and host frequent workshops and talks that are open to the public.
