It just triggered me, because I spent my last two days zoning the monitors and fine-tuning their sensitivity/detection. Already got a fox and two martens tonight (it was already working pretty well so far with bigger objects - i.e. burglars - but I missed on most smaller objects when they didn't turn on the motion controlled lights).
Next I gonna replace more static cams with PTZs that I can get from AliX for under $100 - it's fun to look around your house with your mouse without lifting your ass  ). And as soon as I get my hands on a decent GPU I will dive into object recognition with the Event Notification Server.

I am sure you checked out zmNinja if streaming to mobiles is one of your main objectives.

I actually planned to stick around for most of the night to see some of this matter raining on earth.

But the missus issued a NOTH (Notice to Husband) yesterday that the hedges needed trimming and that the weather is only ideal now. So I trimmed the hedges (possibly one too many retrospectively..), got wrecked and decided I'd have to let that aurora stuff be aurora stuff for tonite and go to the bed early.

Imagine my surprise when I found out that a mole cricket had built it's 'loudspeaker-tunnel' roughly 2m from my bed in the garden and was trying to find a mating buddy until about 3:00 in the morning..
If you never heard a mole cricket, make no mistake it's not at all like that peaceful and calming chirping of regular crickets, it is more like an utterly annoying alarm clock and thanks to the amplifying structures they build into the ground it's not like an alarm clock on your bedside table but like one right in your head.

I am now into my 4th5th cup of coffee and still trying to decide between flooding the tunnels of the little mofo with water or just help him installing tinder for crickets to get things done for good. In any case this aggression will not stand for another night mancricket!

Buddy, a multiple of 33333 like 66666 or 99999 would be more appropriate to celebrate the occasion, don't ya think?

Never connect security cams via wireless, the thief with minimal knowledge will have $2 deauther device running in auto-attack mode in his pocket. Actually to a knowledgeable thief a wireless cam like a cam imitation serves more as an invitation than working as a repellent.

Personally I've found $30 PoE cams from China fitting my needs perfectly well, hell you even get PTZ HD cams for under $100. Ofcourse these cams need to be in an isolated subnet that is only connected to the videoserver (this applies to every other brand too, because you do not want data leaking and also you do not want to get part of a botnet attacking whatever high-profile target).

I use Zoneminder in two separate installations and it hasn't disappointed me yet and has a very open architecture that allows you to extend it in all directions. If you fit a good videocard (good, like in CUDA-capable) into the zm server you can even get it to detect (and recognize) objects and persons (i.e. no alarming if missus or kids are walking through the yard, but alerts for everything else as long as it is a person and not a stray cat).

"The odds are in your favour" is IMO quite an understatement with regards to BTC.

The thing is, they almost all suck IMO because they do not offer search results like it used to be but instead try to "assist" you like some sort of clippy for the intertubez ("did you mean to search for"). I guess the only ones still affording to really index most of the web are bing and google anyway.
I use DuckDuckGo only because it can be used over tor, but I am far from being happy with the results as they also seem to differ based on actual tor exit node.

To me the results on DuckDuckGo most often look like pretty much what bing what deliver.
