Yeah anyone who's been around for the last year knows Rakesh got rekd...he sold his VTR for 200-300 sats a while back so feeling double rekt now its rising

Well I see VTR more of a utility than a pump and dump. So I will wait for the economy to fully mature before selling anything.

Anyone who sees the altcoin economy as just a stock market probably isn't doing it right. Only time will tell if my investments pay off however.

Seeing as the price per GB is about 3 US cents (or whatever amount of Bitcoin if that's the way you work)

Wouldn't it be great for Siacoin to have some form of Dropbox-esque solution for users?

I'd happily pay $10-20 USD a month just to have my primo-files safe via crypto and backed up for my convenience.

I use dropbox for work and would love to have a solution that I can trust to keep my personal files (i.e. doctors reports, passport scans, two-factor authentication backups, fingerprint scans, DNA scans, password backups etc) online and secure.

Although I'd love to have my online presence backed up via USB or similar, the online world is too fast moving for a USB stick or hardcopy to work. The invention of the internet demands a far more instantaneous response.

I trust cryptography to keep my files safe, but haven't found a provider who can keep this promise without the threat of being brought down by lawsuits from idiotic copyright dipshits.

Perhaps this is an avenue which should be explored by the Siacoin team. I'm not asking for 10000000GB. I'm asking for 1GB (at maximum) to keep my personal files safe in a 'locker' which can be updated at will.

I'm willing to pay the price for convenience even if it comes out as being more than what the regular price is.

Call it a "Personal Secure Vault" and you'll have me as your first customer. Make it easy enough for anyone without technical knowledge to access and you'll have many more users of this service.

Although I am sure that this software is developed towards commercial means, it shouldn't come as a surprise that there is a gap in availability towards consumer grade solutions. I'd be most happy if this was addressed via siacoin.

Hey,
New user here--got the GUI wallet for Windows and running it. Managed to create a wallet etc.

The problem I'm having is that it doesn't appear to be syncing the blockchain. Am I missing something? It just says in the overview page that the Block Height is 0.

Thanks.

unlock the wallet ...

that should allow you into the system ... unless i have it wrong of course ...

if the new wallet was anything like the old one - then DONT unlock it unless its fully sync'd - as it will take a LONG time if you do ...

anyone else help? ...

#crysx

If I were to speculate:

I noticed that sometimes the main tab of the wallet will continue to read 0 blocks until you tab to "wallet" and back to "overview." That seems to force a refresh of the information. If I wait it seems to refresh automatically on the overview page, but can take a full minute.  Also, it can just take a while for the wallet to build the database at first, but the new wallet is much faster. The wallet and SIA in general does not respond or look exactly like what most people are used to so the initial thought people have is that it is being "non-responsive" but so far 0.4.3 seems to be working very well. And yes, you don't unlock until the database is caught up and the balance will still read zero until you unlock. This is more of a feature than a bug if I understand correctly.

Managed to fix it by moving my wallet out of its directory. Starting the GUI client and then letting it sync up (which took about a minute). Replacing my wallet and then unlocking it via the wallet screen.

TBH I think an unlock button on every page would probably make the most sense. Anyway, it sync'd really quickly so I'm happy!

Wasn't there some kind of private test group or something?

So you guys saying that his project wont turn out good? I thought it had some chances

I have recently received a request to join the private test group. Looking forward to testing.

Take that as you will.

Hey, any update from your end regarding the private test group?

Still hold a decent stake in this coin and not planning on selling any time soon.
I only ask that the dev keeps us updated from time to time with what is happening.

I'm enthusiastic for a bittorrent/cryptocoin implementation and hope that vtorrent is the first-stop for anyone looking for this.

Let us know when you're ready to release.

You have my full support.

I own a decent stake in this project. I'm being patient. Dev had the chance to steal my coins when I emailed him my private wallet and password but instead took the time to fix the wallet lock issue. He obviously has some good in him all that is required is to be patient.
