1  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Mining on Windows Home Server - possible? on: February 17, 2012, 11:19:58 PM
From my experience, WHS2011 will not load windows drivers, other than VGA or some sort of advanced vga, but it is on a server2008 kernel, so someone might be able to hack something together, there *is* or was the ability to run apps on it, unlike the old whs...   I would like to see this, I would plop better videocards in my WHS and run mining software for the cards...   SOrry I don't have hte complete answer on the APP SDK...

3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin is abusing my harddrive -Time for some FixerUppping? on: March 23, 2011, 04:55:46 AM
I realize that a) the drives have s.m.a.r.t. and b) it may still be under warrentee but would this be a job for

GRC Corp's Spinrite ?  As BitCoin as just a uch an intellectual exercise as it is a real way to make virtual money

it was Spinrite that made everyone's BitCoins' worth a couple USD more.  Perhaps a little Supprt for the TWiT Network

Show and Steve Gibson's program?  You very well may have Spinrite in your tech support toolbox already, if you don't

I reccommend it for all spinning discos (drives not balls)

4  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Radeon HD4850x2 on: March 09, 2011, 02:31:10 PM
Finally with some help got gpu mining going on the 4850x2

getting aproxx 70,000 khash/s on each side of the dual gpu card, and can still play vlc 1.1.7 full screen wideo but it crashed overnight, which if it's a heat issue, that'll be something
as my card has the xspc full cover waterblock on it.  Special thanks goes to ] Keefe]who setup the poclbm miner on a fresh system with the latest CCC install including the most up to
date drivers and CCC and SDK on the FRESH install of win7sp1 with all the latest updates....

if you havea 4850 and want to share tips I'm on the twitter and the facebooker things

time to get a coffee,

Think of it as printing lottery tickets instead of money, you printing outthe chance for a chacne at some real money,

and if someone can go through the paces for gpu mining for throttable minimg for meand can perhaps help me set it up
I would arrange payment in a say, tv card for the US, I have a couple AVERMEDIA ATSC cards around and I'll mail you
one in payment if you can help me get setup mining wiht my cpu and dual gpu on a single card.  Please.  email

This efficiency number is a bit misleading, IMO.

There is no guarantee that a solution exists in a 'getwork' data unit.

Better to rename "efficiency" as "luck."  It is more clear.

It's "efficiency" in the sense that it's the percentage of how close you are to a 1:1 ratio of getworks asked to answers submitted. It's more "efficient" in regards to a pool because it causes less traffic on the server, and allows for more users to connect and participate, thus increasing the potential for blocks to be solved at a faster rate.

The miner itself yields results at the same speed as the core version of m0mchill's miner, but with a greatly reduced network load.

ef·fi·cien·cy [ih-fish-uhn-see]
–noun, plural -cies.

1) the ratio of the work done or energy developed by a machine, engine, etc., to the energy supplied to it, usually expressed as a percentage.

By dictionary definition, our miner fork is more efficient if you're looking at the getworks as "energy" and answers as "work done".
6  Bitcoin / Mining / Piar of Rigs I'd like to setup for mining, plan to document on: February 17, 2011, 05:22:13 PM
I orginally heard about the Bitcoin project on Security Now, on the TWiT.tv network...

I haven't thought this message through so it's going to be a bit of a stream on conceness I hope you can wrap your head around it.  I know since hearing the first Security now show and all that I'm reading I'm kinda dizzy

First, why aren't you all backing up your wallet data, when it changes, along with other pertinent data, on shutdown and startup, to a flash drive?  They're cheap and can hold gobs of data

I have a pair of rigs that I'd like to setup for mining when they're not otherwise used for video editing.   One Intel, one AMD, both quadcores running at 3.0GHz, the Intel has a watercooled cpu and watercooled 4850x2 card 1G, the AMD is Watercooled CPU and a aircooled 4850x2 2G card.    The AMD (which model cpu I don't recall atm) System is watercooled with one of those 120MM^2 radiators and a fan with the integral pump atop the cpu block.  The Intel System (a q9950 cpu) with a CoolerMaster Kit with a 120x250mm radiator with two fans, an OCZ waterblock, the 4850x2 has a full cover-jacket by XSPC (I have the pictures for that install in my photobucket.com if your interested) and 3/4 inch tubing and fittings.  I will also take pictures of it all and post them to a mining rig site / rofum if you know of one, let me know!

My plans for contribution are to try to documnet actual power use and thermal data with this hardware, stock versus watercooled, and stock versus overclocked with the power and heat consumption numbers to try to give the community an idea of how much it costs to mint coins and then perhaps join hte stripminers that are adding to the economy by paying higher power bills!

I also can swap out the 4850x2 2G with 2 1G 4870 aircooled cards in the AMD System

I'm also considering getting (if I can) another waterjacket for the 4850x2 2g, and putting them both in one system.

The Systems are running win 7 64bit with 8G of ram, on a switched gigabit network, 64G SSD system drives

I'm a hardware nerd that's cobbled together a couple of frankensystems and what the heck, let's put them to work

I'm telling you from the git go that I'm no longer a programmer but an advancer used none the less...  This hardware hwen not mining was used for video editing and there isn't that much call for my services anymore.

If you would like to help or show any interest in this please post a message in this thread or drop me an email.
