4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] ATcoin ATC a new crypto on: May 02, 2013, 02:51:33 AM
no details just a list of problems?
ATC will offer faster confirmation times and a smaller blockchain while keeping the same security as BTC and LTC.

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [ANN] ATcoin ATC a new crypto on: May 02, 2013, 02:27:32 AM
Wish to announce yet another crypto currency called Atcoin (ATC).
The purpose for this new crypto is not just to clone an existing crypto to add to the already existing and ever growing number of cryptos out there but to actually try and address some problems with current cryptos.

Almost all current cryptos have very long confirmation times (block generation) which really make them almost useless in a real world (over the counter) transaction. Imagine going to a 7/11 and buying a drink and then asking the staff to wait for 10 minutes confirmation (or 2.5 min in the case of LTC) Smiley. Just shortening the block generation time is really no solution as it just leads to a much larger blockchain. In the end these long confirmation times would make it impossible to use the crypto to pay in the real world unless 3rd party transaction businesses would be the middleman which would guarantee the amount transferred. This would be just another payment processor situation with control over transactions and of course charges for the consumer (as in credit cards).

Another issue with current cryptos is the ever growing blockchain. At the moment the blockchains of the bigger cryptos are already in the Gigabyte range - but as of yet hardly any people have adopted these currencies and hardly any transactions are done. What will happen when the user base reaches 100 million people? what if the 100 million people did 2 transactions each day. The blockchain would be so bloated that no single person could download it onto their computer, let alone their phone.
We have identified these 2 issues as major concerns for the future of cryptos and the survival of cryptos and will try to address them in this new crypto currency ATC.
Will keep you updated on the progress of this project.
Any input welcome

I would install Ubuntu 10.4 LTS with Webmin control panel, myself. You can then just download bitcoind and use that.

If you want WHM/Cpanel, VPS company will charge you more. And I believe you'll have to use CentOS linux (which I'm not personally that keen on.)

I don't use Windows, so can't help on that.

Thank you for your help-

Can anyone help with this? I would like to install the Bitcoin (and also the litecoin client) on a shared Linux webhosting server. Anyone know of a good source of info?
Thanks in advance

You need a VPS, also you should never have your bitcoind on the same server as your web hosting, that is ver insecure. You should read about security before installing bitcoind.
So if I get a VPS server with ssh, what do i need to do then?
I do have normal virtual hosting could I put the ssh client there and install the bitcoind there?

A VPS server will allow you SSH access, but most shared hosting firms do not. They want you to use the Cpanel interface.

Can't you install bitcoind on home computer? VPS's are more expensive than shared hosting.
I had a look and some offer VPS for 2 to 4 dollars a month some as low as 10 a year (which is ok). I could then put the bitcoind on another domain within the VPS I presume (y home computer is only on soetimes and at times conne3ction down etc so it is not suitable. But I really do not know what linux to use on the VPS and what apache to set up etc so it works for PHP5 and bitcoin client - litecoin client. Am a windows person on my work computers but have always used linux hosting etc as seemed more secure. they offer various linux versions etc is there a thing like eg Xamps or wamp that one can isntall on linux to make it all easier???

Bitcoins should have a lite wallet where it doesn't require the blockchain and instead you connect to peers / nodes..
second that. the downloading of the whole chain is just too cumbersome for real usability. I have not used the client for a while and then i have to wait for an hour before i can make any transactions or see if some money arrived. just too slow to be usuable at the moment. Mobile devices are totally overloaded by this
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Litecoin and bitcoin auction site on: November 09, 2012, 12:11:43 PM
just letting everyone know we have started a Bitrcoin and Litecoin Auction site. qall features such as feedback etc - basically like .bay without listing fees or after sale fees and ONLY accepting Crypto currencies. http://www.litecointraders.com

Buying and selling with Litecoin or Bitcoin just got so much easier.
Register you account to sell and buy with Crypto currencies like Litecoin and Bitcoin right now.
You can sell items via Auction, Buy it now, and even list Wanted ads all for FREE.
Opening an account is totally free, there are NO standard listing fees and NO after auction or commission fees.
In the future you will be able to open a shop so that you can sell many items via bulk listing tools and we will have an automatic LTC and BTC client to accept payments for you.
