Is it good to put all miners in a box? Does it lower the temperature inside?
No, it would be a terrible idea to put your miners in a box.  But if you were to put them in a proper rack enclosure with the right ventilation then they should run at a good temp. and noise may be reduced depending on how it is vented and cooled.

@Mikestang is correct. Simply putting miners in a box is not a good idea at all. But with directed airflow in and out, is drops the over all temp. This restricts hot exhaust from being recirculated.

For anyone interested. I have just ordered my next lot of S9's and have some more S7's (batch 2) for sale.
3  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 31, 2016, 05:26:07 PM
I know that Bitmain's pricing history would make you think a price drop is right around the corner, but why would they do something like that when there is no REAL competitors at the moment?

Their pricing model has been to lower prices to keep competitive with other manufacturers.
They dropped the price of the S7 when Bitfurry looked like something that would encroach on their market share.
As it stands there is no one close to having a market ready product. On top of that, what real gains do you expect from the next line of miners? 14nm?? 10nm?? In my option that is still way off.

Bottom line is, I wouldn't expect a price drop this time around until something forces Bitmain's hand.
It's just business.

Batch 6 was clocked at 600M.  The LN is clocked at 700M.

Either Bitmain has a typo on their freq. or their hash rate.

Even if it is the 600M boards, you could purchase 10 instead of 9 to achieve the same hash rate.  That is the math I used in the above post that puts the S7 at $366 new.  Still not seeing how you get to $400 or $425 being a fair price...

As for the warranty:

This warranty is valid only in the United States and Canada and grants specific legal rights, it does not extend to owners of the product other than the original owner. You may also have other rights which vary from state to state.

That's right from Bitmain.

Thanks for sticking up for all the buyers out there.
Your opinions have been noted.

For anyone interested in buying this appointment please PM me.
6  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 6x Antminer S7 Batch 2 $2400 on: May 27, 2016, 06:32:55 PM
Bitmain just updated their pricing with the reconfigured S7-LN PSU included.

https://enshop.bitmain.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020160527114935137wr0xd6U006A9

You can't line these things up side by side for comparison because the LN is only 2 hash boards.  You can easily work out the $/TH and scale it up to 4.66 for comparison though.

If you do that 4.66 TH with PSU is valued from Bitmain at $480.  Using the same ratio of unit and PSU cost you get the following.
New:
S7 = $366
PS = $114

Now considering PSUs are basically worthless used... You can buy a used 1200W hp for $30 on eBay.  Not an auction either, full time eBay store with 100s available.  Now consider eBay is naturally overpriced and $30 for PSU with VGA cables sounds reasonable.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-DL580G5-437572-B21-441830-001-438202-002-800-1200W-AC-Power-Supply-/161940249325?hash=item25b4641aed:g:ZZUAAOSwwPhWjt1t

Used:
S7: $295
PS: $30

I was expecting $325/bundle ($300 if purchasing all of them).  Suddenly $295 (with brand new at $366) doesn't sound nearly as crazy.

This is looking at real low ball performance out of the LN model too.  It appears to be 2 of the 45 chip hash boards.  Clocked at 700M I would expect to see 2/3 of batch 17 performance, or 3.15TH/s.  Using those numbers scaled to 4.66TH/s you only get a total value from Bitmain of $415 with PSU, not $480.  The above was all done assuming the low rated performance of 2.7TH/s (as opposed to expected 3.15TH/s) as that's how it's currently listed.

If it turns out the LN performs at 3.15TH/s and you scale to 4.66TH/s you get:
New:
S7 = $315
PS = $100

Now my proposed fair pricing looks like a steal for the seller.  Offloading for $20 less than manufacturer...
Used:
S7: $295
PS: $30

There is no reason to "scale" a lower quality miner when Bitmain is still selling the S7.
$50 off what Bitmain sells a S7 for with no customs tax (if in USA) is still a good offer.

Once again I have to ask, I you interested in buying these or just trying out your haggling skills?

P.S. The PS on the LN will not run a S7..

My apologies if it appeared as complaining.  I guess if someone is lined up behind me willing to pay $400 or $425 plus shipping then it would be accurately described as complaining, otherwise it's simply pointing out that this price seems way too high given easily discussed concrete factors.

I purchased 4 units (batch 2) with 1200W PSU from Acceptu for $400/bundle.... on April 8th (48 days ago).

I purchased 1 unit (batch 3) from Wpt1wpt1 with dual 1000W PSUs load sharing for $382... on April 27th (30 days ago).

I purchased 2 units (batch 4 and batch 7) from Achtung082 for $400/unit shipped on May 18th.  Was willing to purchase at higher price without PSU because he had the batch 7 at 5TH and I've always wanted to play with one of those.  Even my emotional white whale transaction was a better deal with the free shipping.

I am working a deal with Force098 as we speak.  His list price is $360, but we're discussing an alternative amount via PM.  I can confirm after the transaction is completed as it will be referenced in my trust for all to see.  He started at $450 on the 11th, dropped to $400 on the 17th, and arrived at $360 yesterday.

WTB offer from April 25th for $400 shipped.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1424659.0
WTB offer from April 3rd for $360 with a decrease to $180 starting May 1st.

S7s are still in demand, but only for a reasonable price.  Plenty of people are trying to escape an impossible ROI before the halving.  Based on the experience I've had dealing with the folks above I was honestly expecting to see the price per unit at $325 with all 6 going for $300/unit including the PSUs.  Even that deal favors the seller as you need 'Goldilocks' conditions to ROI.

So new:
S7 = $450
PS = $140 ( 31% of the cost of miner)

At $300 for both used:
S7 = $207
PS = $93

That is just not going to happen (not yet anyway).

I am in conversations with 2 others about these at the moment. So I guess will see. I do appreciate the links, but they are not direct sales. They are just someone posting something (hearsay) that's hard to prove.

8  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 6x Antminer S7 Batch 2 $2400 on: May 27, 2016, 11:22:18 AM
You're right, the coupons have expired.  You're missing the point though.  A month ago these things were going for $450/unit from the manufacturer... The price has fallen out of the bottom with the halving in 45 days.  (I was picking up S7 with PSU bundles for $400 a month ago).

Just do a bit of quick math.  Assume modest 5% network growth per interval.  Take dirt cheap electric rates of $0.035/KwH.  You get a total net revenue of $320 from this unit before it runs in the red.  And that's after 300 days.  Between day 180 and 300 it makes a whopping $20.

So in 6 months you'll be in the hole $100/unit with the possibility of shorting that to $80/unit if you can wait another 4 months...

That's assuming you have free and available PSUs ready to go...

I can't tell if you are trying to negotiate a price or just complaining.

If you are negotiating, please send me a PM..

If your complaining, the price is in line with what others are selling S7's for.. Feel free to post links to credible lower offers.

I've been mining for years. Thought is was about time I posted a little something.
Here's my current rig.

6 - S7's overclocked total avg. 30.40 Ths
Total system pulls 62.3 amps
Rig dumps exhaust into my forced air return duct.
Currently in my area I have my power flat rate power for the next 1 1/2 years.
Total electric for the entire house is $450 a month.
Because of the flat rate, I can run the miners and the A/C at the same time and during the winter they keep my house around 70 deg.

What settings do you have on your overclocked S7's?

Each miner is a little different. All are batch 2 and clock speeds range from 625 to 675. I keep an eye on the errors per day and adjust them accordingly.

i like the server rack idea. with them blowing right into the return do you hear any noise leaking into the rest of the house?

No. Noise isn't an issues at all. The rack is stored in the basement with the HVAC equipment. The noise level in the basement could be better, but not really that bad. I could sound proof the room there in, if need be. In the rest of the house, the only sound we here is from the HVAC fan that has to run non-stop.

The biggest problem I've had so far, is the miners really dry out the air. So I had to disconnect the HVAC humidifier because it won't stop running.
13  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Pool vs Solo? on: May 18, 2016, 10:31:21 PM
I have 6 - S7's and have won 2 blocks with some pool mining in between.

"height":410375,"hash":"000000000000000006180b6ce488ca2a779ed6ee460363489a04716f5f371c23"

Whenever you solo mine the risk goes way up. You could go months with mining a single block, all the while the difficultly continues to go up. At this point I would stick with pool mining with the halving coming up. Over the long run it will always even out.
The first block I won only took 4 days of solo mining, but the second took over 3 months.

36 DC fans @ 25W each = 900W
so less then an amp

36 fans @ 72 CFM ~ 2600 CFM
It's hard to move that much air with that much power.
Also, with 1 or 2 fans I lose the redundancy and add a single point of failure

I paid ~ $1.50 per fan, so if one fails it's easy to replace.
Nice tower case, is it a custom cabinet or did you modify something for servers to work with the S7s?

The rack is by BlackBox and is meant for switch equipment.
The front door was a solid piece of plexi, witch offers no ventilation.
I had to cut the bottom half of the plexi to fit the filter and fans.
Inside I had to put in shelves to sit the miners on.

Wizkid057,
First I’d like to say that I very much appreciate the work you have done and the dedication to the pool.
I understand that a voting system was been brought up a number of times on this forum. How do you feel about a voting system where we vote in BTC. Basically paying for new features? I know you do this on your own time and would like to see you compensated in some form, since it seems donations aren’t cutting it.

How many power ned the fans? it is not better to use one or two bigger fans?
