Just turned my S5's off.  I don't think I will be running them any more if they will not profit.

I thought I would see a more drastic cut in network wide hash rate with the halving.  Must be because of the weekend.

I don't know why everyone is celebrating the halving.

8 blocks for the day. Not bad. Lets start the new day with some more green blocks.

I could use a few more days like this.  Whatever it is that makes this pool work so well, I hope we keep it up.

I've read a lot about luck, but I don't think this is pure luck.  Sure, luck is a factor, but I think Kano is highly dedicated to making this pool work and he seems to be on the top of his game.  That is not luck at all, that is hard work on his part.  Thanks Kano.

Yes, I would say you are right, at least for the s7's.  I bought some time to keep them running till July halving.  Then I will evaluate.

I was paying $.07/KWh after taxex and fees.

Time to clean my glasses!  I went to look at the top of the page thinking that the block time might still say 13h.  I look here and see block found.  I go back and it really says 13m.  Pleasant surprise.

Thanks for pulling us out of that one Jays86.

What state do you live in?  Can't you just switch providers?  It doesn't make sense, if they allowed 400A connection to your house, you're allowed to use all of it.  Otherwise they will reject the connection to the transformer.  Most residential transformer doesn't even allow connecting 400AMP from 1 house as typically you will need 500MCM cable which is too big for their connector Bus Bar.  The work around is 6 smaller parallel cables.  That was the issue at my house.  Fortunately that transformer was overloaded and overdue to be upgraded so I got lucky and was able to hook up the 500MCM which is a FAT heavy Copper cable to the new transformer.  I had no issues driving most of the 400AMP at 80% which is 320AMP.    DMwardjr have similar configuration and was actually trying to go to 800AMP to 1000AMP for his house.  Just tell them you're running a lot of servers at your house.  Sounds like they're just trying to make more money from you.

I am in Indiana, and no, we do not have our pick of power companies like other areas do.

400A service minus 20% safety means 320A useable.  I was just under at 300A.
The meter is rated as 320 amp continuous load.

With the supply cables, I was running safely at 300 amp.

I actually had a 2nd similar meter installed on my property that I wanted to expand into.  It by my driveway.  It is live but not being used.

They put in a new transformer on my property that has plenty of capacity.

They put in newer smart meters but I don't think they are communicating because I am out in the country.

Because they can.  They called me into a meeting at their location.  I brought my electrician along.
You are a paying customer, you have a service with them, you are entitled to use that service as long as you pay for it.  You should have brought a lawyer, not an electrician.  They don't get to tell you what you can or can't do on your property, nor can they limit you to an arbitrary average value of those residents around you.  They are stupid to drive away a well paying customer.

Bad timing on my part.  My daughter graduates law school in May!

They did not want to give a straight answer to my most basic questions.

How much power am I allowed to use with my 400A service? and Where is this information published?

Because they can.  They called me into a meeting at their location.  I brought my electrician along.

They had commercial meter people there ready to sign me up.  I basically said I had options and those
options would result loosing the sale of a lot electricity to me.  No way is it even feasible to go commercial rate
so I had nothing to loose.

I just got beat up bad by my electric company!

I was running 300A with 125TH mining power on my 400A service at home.

The electric company called me in and want to put me on commercial rate which works out to be about $.13/KWh.

I shut 40 S5's down and the draw went to roughly 200A to eliminate any "equipment safety concerns".  I need to get rid of them.
I have to get rid of the rest of my s5's, another 40 of them in May.

That leaves me with a dozen s7's which I have to sell or get hosted elsewhere in July.

They are watching to see if I use more than the "average" customer in my area with my size home.  They said that should
be no more than 6679 KWh/month which I figure to be about a 9.27 amp continuous draw.

Basically, I am screwed.  At least I bought some time till the halving.  I never did tell them what I was doing, just lots of ''math'.

I hope none of you find yourself in the same situation.

Anyone want some S5's in the United States, make me an offer.  I also have the PSU's and power cables that went with them.

Suggestion for Kano:  Add a "Buy this guy/gal a beer!" button.  When someone hits twice like that
I would be happy to buy them a beer.

Is there a "Kano Optimized" version of s5 or s7 firmware?

I am running stock firware which I would imagine is optimized for antpool.

Hi guys,

I know this question is out of place but this is a place where I feel comfortable and enjoy learning what I can.

I've been trying to learn more about blockchain by playing with my linux bitcoin core node and the bitcoin-cli command.

I keep hearing about mempool and how poeple are spamming blocks with low value transactions.  I don't see a handy
command for seeing the size of the mempool or the number of transactions waiting to be put into a block.  I would appreciate
an example command for this.

I would also like to list my recent transactions to be sure they match up with kano's block payouts.  I could easily go to that
machine and look at the GUI, but I want to learn how to use the command line stuff.

Does anyone know of a good tutorial for using bitcoin-cli?  I've read lots of books but need some hands on.

Thanks,

Tom

wolfen.  This is strange, we are both right!

When I go to http://bitmain.com and click on their link to buy a S7 batch 8, the price is 2.49 btc or $1,031.31

When I go to http://bitmaintech.com, as you said, the price there is $1.607 btc or $665 for a batch 12 to be shipped on March 19.

Is http://bitmain.com some type of scam site?  I wonder.  This is strange.  I'm not really in the market to buy a S7 right now.  I have
several and many are not running 100%.

Buyer beware.

Tom
hello,

Here's I just had on their site:
https://enshop.bitmain.com/productDetail.htm?pid=00020160307020331375uYwfnI5D06C6
Price:       665 USD  ( 1.613 BTC )

So I believe this is just fine.

I must be going nuts.  Actually that happened a long time ago.

When I go to https://enshop.bitmain.com/productDetail.htm?pid=000201511170341298180m44675v0613
I get:

ANTMINER S7 BATCH 8 - Shipped out within 5 days with full payment
ANTMINER S7 BATCH 8 - Shipped out within 5 days with full payment

Speed:    4.73TH/S

Weight:    4.5 kg

Price:       2.49 BTC
               ( 1030.76 USD )

I get there by simply going to http://bitmain.com and clicking on the big "Buy Now" link for the S7 at the top of the page.

When their website works.  I checked a couple days ago and their price was over $1000.

I still can't figure out why someone would pay $800+ for an S7 on eBay when you can get a brand new one from Bitmain for less. When I ordered mine, it took less than a week to arrive here in the U.S. No problems with customs, etc. Very smooth and easy. You could probably do pretty well buying a bunch from Bitmain and turning them around on eBay.
Last s7 price I saw was $650 on bitmaintech

I had a similar experience.  Not easy being little guy.

BTW, I can't help but notice that this whole "home/hobby miner" and the "small business miner" industry reminds of of the earlier days of Internet providers. Back in 1999 I became interested in Bulletin Board Systems (AOL being the largest commercial one at the time) and there were lots a small BBS systems that guys were running out of their homes and making a few bucks. So I bought some equipment and software and started my own local BBS with local content, etc. it quickly became clear that I had to offer Internet access too. So I brought in a fractional T1 from a whole Internet provider and a fiber optic line from Verizon, started selling unlimited internet for $14.95 month. This was before cable modems, satellite, etc. I was using 28.8 modems and the new "fast" 56kb modems cam out, so I upgraded my equipment and kept going. I built the business to about 200 customers and was starting to turn a small monthly profit, but illness in the family forced me to shut everything down (sent my customers to another local provider - didn't even have time to sell). well in retrospect, there is no way I could stayed in business anyway, because once cable and other high speed internet came along, all the small guys went out of business - they just couldn't compete with the big guys.

This is what I'm seeing in btc mining. Big guys with millions of $$ are squeezing out the small guys. Who can compete with the likes of a BitFury data center? I hope I'm wrong, because the small guys are what keep the network healthy and widely distributed.

I apolgize if this is off topic or wrong forum for this discussion, but I just wanted to share that experience with the group.

Ok, back to cracking that stubborn block!

This reminds me of some fishing trips I have been on with no luck.  It is still good to be fishing.  Patience never came easy for me.
