Thanks for all the replies.

The data somehow was corrupted, so I sent the bitcoins to an online account.

I will have a go at the software another time.....

-snip-
Shorena has a list of fast nodes -snip-

You summoned me? You can force bitcoin core to connect to a specific node and no others if you think the nodes you are connecting to are not providing all the bandwith/blocks they should.

Start bitcoin core with -connect=IP

AFAIK IP can be a list of IPs seperated with "," e.g.

Code:
-connect=185.45.192.129,94.23.146.127,213.165.91.169,191.236.50.217

that should make sure you are connected to a well connected node with the latest blocks, once you are fully synced run as usual.

list:

Code:
last updated 2015.04.24
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IP                  - location             - owner[1]    -  speed      - info/stats page[2] - testnet

Thanks, looks like good info.

Sadly, I already downloaded bootstrap.dat and tried loadblock....

How long should this take? There is no indication of progress..

What version are you running? 0.10.0? (Or 0.10.1?)

It is v0.10.0

You might give 0.10.1 a try.

Thanks, I'm currently testing that.......

Is downloading the bootstrap.dat an option? (If the new version of Bitcoin Core not solve the problem?).

Now that you said it... I have downloaded 10.0.1 instead.

your balance is safe, it will be displayed when the your client will be fully synched

the synching of the whole blockchain require a great amount of time(depend on your hdd/ssd), how many hours since you started synching?

Have been running for 2.5 days.... now stuck on a certain block at 7 weeks....

then something is wrong in your roaming, usually this is the case, check also how many connections do you have in your client

I was looking at 21 connections earlier... yesterday around 14

So basically, I downloaded "Bitcoin Core" on Linux Mint and bought some Bitcoins...

Then I started the sync, but it is stuck at 7 days, with a zero balance shown.

I'd be grateful for some help to fix this, in a way that I don't lose my balance...

Thanks for your suggestions.
