Monero is everything Bitcoin could have been by wasn't.

I think that in time more and more people will come to realize that Bitcoin isn't anonymous at all and move to XMR instead. Or at least use it in complement with XBT.

Wouldn't be the least surprised if all current mixing services were LE honeypots.

Just sending your money to an online wallet and then from there to an exchange should do it. Won't work against a global adversary, but then again, if you're not involved in money laundering you should be fine.
3  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is day trading on Coinbase profitable? on: May 10, 2015, 11:01:22 AM

It could be different in my case because I wouldn't mind holding more BTC long-term.  Assuming the price of BTC is going up long-term (which is a belief of mine), how could I lose?

But that wouldn't be day trading anymore, now would it?

Not that there's anything wrong with the good old buy/hold strategy, it's actually a lot better than trying to time the market, which, at the end of the day, is all day trading is, really.

You just have to accept it's a gamble.

No, it's not profitable. Better invest your hard-earned money on something fun like hookers or cocaine. Same ROI.

You can only make money trading if a) you're gambling with other people's money or b) you have access to priviledged information (this is called inside trading and is highly illegal) and/or can exploit order flow (a practice called "front running", which, like insider trading, is also in violation of every securities law on the planet).

I guess there's also option c), which is the investment equivalent to Russian roulette. Imagine 10,000 monkeys throwing darts at a candlestick chart; with enough market participants, a random simian millionaire is bound to emerge from this twisted economic experiment.
5  Economy / Speculation / Re: Could Greece bankruptcy fuel the next Bitcoin rally? on: May 09, 2015, 03:38:46 PM

The point is it will cause capital flight to Bitcoin, Greece collapsing would certainly shake up the EU to that point and Switzerland has already exited the Euro.

Switzerland was never in the Euro to begin with! The Swiss Franc was pegged to the Euro, but they were never part of the Eurozone.

Obviously, NO the Greece bankruptcy will not 'fuel' the next bitcoin rally. If we want to see again 1'000 dollars per bitcoin, that in this case we need a person with a lot of dollars (billion or also million $$) and he should buy bitcoin and continue to buy.

I suggest we bring back Willy and Markus.

Nah, Cyprus had nothing to do with it and I'm sick and tired of this nonsense about Greece leaving the Eurozone.

If you live in the EU and think that the banking system might collapse or that the Euro might collapse, you don't purchase BTC, you try to withdraw as much money as you possible can and keep it in cash. If the government ever implements a pesofication of all depositor accounts you can bet people will be trying to smuggle euros into other, more stable European countries.

Oh, a government-run blockchain project!

Sounds wonderful, were it not completely anathema to everything the Bitcoin community stands for. </sarcasm>
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could a cashless Denmark become a bitcoin hub? on: May 07, 2015, 12:34:25 PM

Bitcoin DOESN'T NEED A HUB?

Exactly!  A hub implies a level of centralization I'm not really comfortable with.

We don't need a hub, we just need people to use the currency.
One thing we need is for coinbase and other anal probing, fully KYC/AML compliant exchanges to f*** off. That's what BTC needs!

Yeah, with an average tax burden of 48%!

I'd rather earn less and have the freedom to carry cash.

EDIT: Also, are you sure those figures are accurate? Are we talking per capita or household income?

Denmark is a nanny state. So is Sweden and Finland.

They'll tax you to death, forbid you from using cash, stiffle your political freedom. Digusting!
