1  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Custom Firmware Release for S7 and S5 Miner all Batches on: May 02, 2016, 09:51:09 PM
:-\Unless I am totally missing sumtin which may be possible, but from my experience this "Custom Antminer s7 Firmware" Doesn't Work At All.
It appears to just be a bloated non-functioning Antminer S7 batch 1 firmware copy.  It even has the "ping 114.114.114.114" line in /etc/init.d/cgminer.sh NOT commented out. Since currently (well at last time checked) this ip address is down and has been for a week or longer Cgminer will not run.  Also when I went to check the version of Cgminer after running on the SD Card that "new firmware" was dd'd to it was still showing 4.8.  I contacted Ziwalla (or how ever the spell it) Support and no response, not even an automated response.  So it's either one of a few things possible going on here:

1. Totally Doesn't Work At All
2. Does not Run on My Batch
3. Terrible Customer Service / Non-existence Support

Has anyone actually gotten this "Custom S7 Firmware" to Run ?

I am probably just going to Extract Original Batch 1 Firmware
to a virtual linux box and fix the cgminer.sh file
And then possible update/upgrade system
Install new version of cgminer and
Then recompress to flashable tar or just make a img file to
write to Sd Card boot.
These were really the only features i was interested in if anyone has already done this and would like to share
That would be helpful otherwise if anyone else wants when i'm done i can post it up here or new thread for people
to freely download and use...

2  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: April 28, 2016, 12:41:03 PM
my 3 b1 S7 miners goes to silence yesterday, they can reachable but dont hashing, cgminer cant start hashing.
i tried nearly everything 1 solution is flash new firmware and go. but i am using 6hashboards Sad latest version is not handle 6 hashboards.
I suspect for date settings with ntpd . like a timebomb. change date settings to 2015 not works. Sad
any ideas ?
i am not linux guy i cant figured out. Sad
I had the same problem today and some days in the past also.

When you start or restart cgminer the cgminer.sh script (/etc/init.d/cgminer.sh) checks that the connectivity to 114.114.114.114 is up.
I guess it is a one of bitmain ip.
Today this IP (114.114.114.114) is down, so all of Bitmain gear (S3, S4, S5, and S7) will refuse to restart cgminer if you restart the miner or change your configuration.
If 114.114.114.114 is not up, the cgminer.sh script exits and does not start cgminer.
To fix the problem there are 3 possibilities:
1) Wait for 114.114.114.114 to get back up => Seems unacceptable to me.
2) Upgrade the firmware to a newer version

3)  Fix the script and restart cgminer.sh
To do that :

3.1)Connect to your miner by ssh
Replace 192.168.0.170 with the IP of your miner

Code:
ssh root@192.168.0.170
3.2)Edit /etc/init.d/cgminer.sh and comment out 3 lines from line 35 to 37:

Code:
vi /etc/init.d/cgminer.sh

Code:
#if [ $network_ok -eq 0 ];then
#    return
#fi

If you don't know how to use vi :
http://www.tutorialspoint.com/unix/unix-vi-editor.htm

3.3) Then restart cgminer with :

Code:
/etc/init.d/cgminer.sh restart

Warning :
You will have to redo the same modification if you reboot !
To avoid that, do after fixing cgminer.sh:

Code:
cp /etc/init.d/cgminer.sh /config/cgminer_fix.sh

And then if you reboot you only need to do :

Code:
cp /config/cgminer_fix.sh /etc/init.d/cgminer.sh
/etc/init.d/cgminer.sh restart

OMG U ROCK!!! Worked like a charm!
(I actually just changed the 114.114.114.114 ip address to my routers address)
Again Thank you...

On a separate note has anyone found where you can enable/disable the S7/S5+ Controller boards Data port? It would be nice to either upgrade firmware and enable more than 3 data ports...
3  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S7 controller has nine 18- pin jacks So what can we do with it? on: November 26, 2015, 12:20:45 PM
I just hooked two units together via the rails and then unmounted both control boards and place a single bb board and data port board in between the two miners held in place with  a little velcro.  The original cables the S7 ships with are plenty long enough when set up this way... Smiley

It would seem to me you could lash together two S7's with a single controller if you were to lay the miners on their sides, so that the "Top Side" were facing each other. Kind of awkward to wire up, but it shouldn't take any "long cables" to accomplish.

It would be interesting to know if the S7 cooling actually requires that the blades be vertical to work OK. While it's obvious what the "expected" orientation is, does it still behave well if it's laid on it's side?

point them upwards top to top that allows for  vertical and hot air raises.

stack them on a box fan  which allows for more air to help fans.  also if fans fail the box fan may save the day.
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Connecting Three AntMiner S7's to one Controller on: November 09, 2015, 01:03:57 PM
philipma1957,

Which data ports are your hash boards plugged into? can you take a pic?
I am having issues plugging 6 boards into one S7 Controller where some ports don't seem to
recognize the S7 boards correctly and don't hash.  I am seeing this on batch 1 and batch 3.
Does anyone else who has tried plugging multiple S7 systems into on controller seen this issue?

 Sad

I can only confirm 2 s-7's as I never had three on hand to test.

here are my two  one batch 1 with untouched firmware running both the batch 1 and  batch 2.

It got hot in NJ it will be 70f today so my two are downclocked to manage heat

At 50f I can run my two at freq 581 and get around 9300
at 45f I can run my two at freq 587 and get around 9400

at 70f I run at freq 562 and get 9080

some math  562/600 = 93.666667%   x 4860 = 4552  x 2 =  9104   and I am doing 9080  due to 0.0052% errors so no complaints

5  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BitCrane UltraHoist board question. on: September 11, 2015, 01:42:08 PM
Heya don 't know if you're still looking for an answer on this but your best bet is to get a cheap SBC and use it to run your UltraHoist board you will then have te ability to tweak the voltage setting.  Newegg was selling the Cubieboards for $19.00 (not sure if sale is still on).  Cubieboard1 is not the best but BitCrane does have an official linux image for the cubieboard as well as a pretty slick web interface and keep alive scripts for you UltraHoist board.  You can also get a pcdunio for $15.00 to $20.00 on ebay but would need to configure any linux image you use for mining purposes. I attached the the SBC to the bottom of a metal plate that the hardware store had on sale then mounted the UltraHoist board on top. This worked fairly well in creating an independent mining unit that can hash around 550GHs to 850GHs depending on how hard you push the board and the metal mounting plate helped draw heat from the UltraHoist Chip... Smiley

6  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: buying second hand miner on: July 28, 2015, 06:29:32 PM
What ever you do don't buy used miner from 2ndHandMiner.com

This is the shadiest site ever. I want to warn and recommend everyone not to buy any hardware from Amy K Brannan and their website.  I purchased an S5 Antminer and it arrived with only one hashing board working.  I tried to work with Amy to get the issue resolved and my return request was declined, also I was told that they called their representative at Bitmain Tech and told them not to honor any warranty repair for my item.  Also they have a tendency to jack up the price on a product once you add it to your cart. So if it's like 499 and you add to cart to check out all of sudden it's now 599. They are super shady and not customer service friendly at all.  It takes them at least a week or two to respond to any issues you may have. Don't trust these guys and don't order from them they won't make it right and they will send you malfunctioning equipment.

7  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 power suply on: July 27, 2015, 07:03:59 AM
I have a number of PSU from EVGA and have done some testing with powering 2 S5 Antminers from on PSU.  I found that the 80 Plus Gold EVGA 1300 Watt SuperNova does an excellent job powering two miners with fans on front and back of both.  Also the 1300 watt is fairly quiet and does not seem heat up too much.  I have found that the 1600 watt 80 Plus Platinum is a bit overkill and could probably power 3 Antminer S5's, but seems to get excessively hot just powering two.  While the EVGA 1600 watt 80 Plus Titanium runs two Antminer S5's and stays super cool and in ecco mode doesn't even need to power up the fan to stay cool.  What I found very interesting was that the older generation EVGA NEX 1500 Classified watt rated at 80 Plus Gold gave me about 15% to 20% more hashing performance.  The NEX Classified did run a little hotter than the Supernova 1300 watt but not as hot as the 1600 watt Platinum.  Also the dip switches allow you to power up without sticking a paperclip in the mb cable (something that always made me a little uneasy).  Also you can change it to single rails from 8 independent ones and with 220v overclock the psu to 1650 watts.  I don't know if the 20% boost in hashing power makes up for the slight inefficiency in power conversion but for me i always like to see faster hash rates.  Has anyone else seen other PSUs that seem to provide you a boost in hash rates?
8  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive BitCrane T-110 Setup [HD] on: May 09, 2015, 06:32:49 PM
I thought I read some where that when switched on the controller board will flash morse code of the NiC's Ip. I believe this is enabled on the T-110(s) ans would have also possible worked for you.

https://github.com/cubieplayer/Cubian/wiki/Get-started-with-Cubian

My buddy is letting me use/making me fix his Miner T-110. At frst the issue was that the web controller would stop giving access to the control pane/plane, So i attempted to simply update the syste, kernal, and packages.  Now he controller board does not see the usb mining cards at all and "lsusb" is giving errors about noy being able to display or load devices.  I think it would take long long time to go thru and figure wherre it all went so wrong and the best option is to just reimage the flash drive with the stock shipped SD Image.  Does any one know where i can snag it or can you send a copy of a clean working Image for the BitCrane T-110.  I have a few email in at support forBitCrane but have bot heard back yet.

Heya also great overview the system Dogie if i get thus working and my buddy wants it back i probably gonna get a few. I like the Idea of stacking three but would they operate as a one worker cluster or just as three independent workers...

Again thank for any help on T-110 System Image.
