1  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S5 - Chain 1 is cold on: June 26, 2015, 09:37:16 PM
Hi philipma1957

Sorry the late answer, I have been away due to work.

I did the firmware update after the chain went down, but with both chain connected. (The working and non-working)

The miner has ben shut down for 3 weeks, and i shut the others down for an hour, I started it, and down clock it to 325.

After about 5 min, it chanced from "o" to "x", on the cold chain.

I allows chanced to a 1500w PSU, just to be sure. (http://www.corsair.com/se-fi/ax1500i-digital-atx-power-supply-1500-watt-fully-modular-psu-eu)

Here is a new screenshot after 26min
https://www.dropbox.com/s/iz1jvzu2xi1s2h9/Antminer1.jpg?dl=0

And thanks for answering with so many details, suggestions, and information :-)

And hey SaudiMiner

Please let me know if you solves this problem.

All the bedst to you all:-)

When you said you used the 1500 watt PSU was used how many miners were you using it on when trying?  If you physically reset the power does it come back to working sometimes? Or always the chain dies.

If it dies even with a physical restart and after doing - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1059852.msg11369599#msg11369599  (And PSU was tried not with two many connected to it).

Assuming all that I would start a ticket and let them know all you have tried.   There is a good chance if all of above is done it's likely the hashing module. - https://bitmain.zendesk.com/hc/en-us

Hi notlist3d

In the test the Antminer S5 was the only thing connected to the 1500w PSU, so the power should not be an issue.
I have contacted the seller about the challenge.

Thanks to you all for you helpfulness.

if any solution appears, I will let you know.

does sound dead if freq 350 does not work.  maybe freq 325.

also some put the controller in the oven at 180 f for a bit of time hoping to   get a cold solder joint to seal.    (i have never done this)  there are a few posts about doing this here and there.

Before resorting to oven I would contact Bitmain support and see what they come up with.

I would do re flowing as a last resort personally.

Hey, in the test, the miner was the only one connected to the 1500W PSU

Seller said contact Bitmain as you also did earlier.

And I've just received answer from Bitmain, it follows:

-Hello sir,

-400 freq is not default. so you have overclocked unit.

-and it probably fried something.

-try moving cables from first and last positions on control pcb to second and third. ones closer to each other.

-return freq to 350. you will maybe save something.

-since unit is overclocked it is not under warranty any more.

-best regards,
-Bitmain_Z

Not very helpfull :-/

I just took the PCB out and removed the heatsink, when i did, i noticed the screws seems to be used, they were slightly damaged and not tightened equally.
I also discovered that  2 heatsink on the outside were missing.
I'd Googled pictures of the PCB, and noticed that they do not seems to be there from the factory, os I might have bought a used one.

Is there anybody there knows if it its normally with heat sink on both sides of the PCB? You can se a picture on this link.

First off  did you down clock the freq yet.

Second  antminer firmware has had sooo many issues really never do firmware  until you have figured out your problem.

How did you do firmware ?

did you do it with the 1 dead  or weird  board?

or did you do it with the gear fully working.

I read you did it after your issues not before.

Firmware is so far down to list to try. (with antminers)

Do me a favor downclock the gear to 350 or 325 let me know what happens.

better yet now that I see your  screen shot.  turn off all gear for 1 hour  power it up set freq to 325

let it run 20 minutes see what is up.

Also do not hide the pools you mine at you can hide the passwords but some pools are tricky mother fuckers and you may have a pool issue not a gear or psu issue.

The other day I could not get 1 of 4 workers to work on btcguild .. I shut all 4 pieces off  for an hour started it up and it started all four workers The gui read nutty for 2 hours and the pool side read fine. after a few more hours the gui and the pool got stable.

a 1 minute screen shot does not help much..  try a 10 minute one.  and see what your pool reads.

Remember the pool pays not the miner.  So if the pools reads 1100 and the miner read 525  the pool rate is what you get.

Hey There
I just start using an Antminer S5, it has been running with a frequency at 400M.
I Know that it was stable at 56 degrees in the first 24 hours. After about 48 hours Chain 1 went completely Cold.

I Think that there are missing an "o" in the ASIC status, but I'm not sure Huh .
Please see the ASIC Status here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pnvit9vp1aoc2v9/antminer.jpg?dl=0

I have tried the Reset Button, but it didn't help.

It is running with a 700w PSU

I have firmware upgraded it, and it didn't help either

Please post any suggestions you might have :-)

What is your PSU brand & type?

Hi Zich
It is a Corsair HX750W (so not 700W as I wrote early)
http://www.corsair.com/en-us/professional-series-hx750-80-plus-silver-certified-modular-power-supply

And thanks for your reply :-)

i found this guy with the same problem but an s3, it should be similar anyway

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=903664.0

btw the other chain is working good? it could be that the psu is not delivering all his power

Hey Amph

Thanks for the link, I will follow it and see if they come up with a solution.
And regarding the power, - I have testet the chains one at the time, and with the same cables and connections. According to notlist3d first link :-)
So I dont think it is power.

But thanks for your input, - High five to all :-)

Hi notlist3d
Thanks for your answer, I appreciate it :-)

I've tried follow the steps but without success.

I've also tried to use the data cable from the chain that works, and tried another data port, but also without success.

I have tried the firmware you linket, and the 2 firmware on this link, no change at all.
https://bitmaintech.com/support.htm?pid=00720150101032800325X8cMcY2y068F

Every thing the bad chain runs, is discarded. If i run with the same settings on the other chain, I've run 600+ GH/S almost immediately.

If you have any other ideas, i'm all ears. - And have a very nice day :-)
