1  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: BiPolarBob's Tell-A-Joke Round #1 (Prize: 0.12345 btc) on: August 22, 2015, 10:03:14 AM
Two students were arguing when their teacher entered the classroom. The teacher says, “Why are you arguing?” One boy answers, “We found a ten dollar bill and decided to give it to whoever tells the biggest lie.” "You should be ashamed of yourselves," said the teacher, "When I was your age I didn’t even know what a lie was." The boys gave the ten dollars to the teacher.

5  Economy / Economics / Re: Minimum wage. on: August 21, 2015, 06:35:21 PM
There is an easy way to determine this, and that's exactly what has been mentioned in the quote I keep including. A living wage should allow an individual to afford a minimum of things such as education and entertainment. This of course also refers to workers on the bottom quartile who generally are the most at risk of poverty. When we say that an individual needs something we mean needs a minimum while also avoiding poverty. Consumerism, which is subjective, isn't included. Whether you need an extra week of holiday doesn't matter when what you need is defined as that which allows you to avoid poverty.
I think your talking more about welfare then a min wage. Welfare/Doll your statement holds a lot of ground. For min wage that would murder the economy.

who gets to determine what is "acceptable" ?
The local housing market of the surrounding state area, the people whom elect there Governor.
7  Economy / Economics / Re: Minimum wage. on: August 21, 2015, 06:23:03 PM
If it creates more jobs it by definition cannot simultaneously create a race for the bottom. Labor is a commodity like any other. The greater the demand for it the higher the price for it will be. The statement however only shows that it doesn't solve the problem it claims to solve and in fact cannot.
My post to yours was a question, what do you think eliminating/reducing the national min wage will do?
And cotton picking (for example) for $.10 a day are jobs we can do without.

It is the typical leftist form over substance solution to poverty that rather than alleviating poverty spreads it.
So you believe eliminating min wage will? (dont want to put words in your mouth)
Its necessary, were capitalist...only money makes money here. Here is what i think would happen with out it.
It wont lower cost of living.
It will create more jobs.
It will create a race to the economic bottom.
It wont improve quality of life.
And only those whom are not in a position to make there money work for them will suffer.

Irrespective of its economic effects, it's coercive. It obstructs voluntary association. I am therefore opposed to it.
Never mind...continued reading posts..you said something about being an anarchist or somesuch...No point discussing with you.

Crime is a byproduct of freedom. There was less freedom for them 50 years ago than there is now.
lol, so now it's an issue of freedom and not poverty? Nice movement of the goal posts. Any other excuses you wish to make for black criminality?

What source are you using for that claim?

Not in wars. Black people were not fighting other black people in WW2, or Korea, or Vietnam, or Iraq.
Here we have an example of the "noble savage theory" that white progressives subscribe to. Non-whites are too righteous and pure to engage in warfare, only whites are capable of that kind of thing. Nevermind the fact that genocides have been waged in Africa for thousands of years as part of their tribal warfare history, which continues to this very day.

I am saying it is a socio-economic cause, not a racial cause.

If you are saying black people are violent, I would point out that most wars in human history have not been waged by black people. Especially in the last few centuries. Black people, as a race, tend to be on the receiving end of violence.
That's because blacks were never in a position to launch a war on par with the world wars we've had. There have been many, many wars in Africa, however, some of which are still occurring today.
19  Other / Politics & Society / Re: VIDEO: Pack Of Black Thugs Surround White 13-Year-Old… It Does Not End Well on: August 20, 2015, 06:26:21 PM
Statistically, poor people are most likely to be violent. Statistically, black people are a lot more likely to be poor than white people.

Hows about them statistics?
Except that doesn't explain the phenomenon of black crime. Hispanics are a larger minority group than blacks and have a similar percentage of their population living below the poverty line, and are actually more likely to drop out of high school and not graduate college than blacks, yet they commit a fraction of the violent crime that blacks commit. The next excuse thrown out would be "racism", yet blacks were not as violent 50 years ago when there was much more racism against them to deal with.
20  Other / Politics & Society / Re: McDonald's shoots down fears it is planning to replace cashiers with kiosks on: August 09, 2015, 06:20:45 PM

McDonald's is rolling out self-service kiosks in restaurants across the US that allow customers to order and pay for their food without ever having to interact with a human.

"At least half of the operators in my region are on the verge of collapse," one franchisee wrote in response to a recent survey by former Janney Capital Markets analyst Mark Kalinowski. "With minimum wage for fast food workers potentially increasing to incredibly high levels, we are facing a crisis situation."

Another franchisee wrote, "We are in uncharted waters. The minimum wage issue is a major threat to the survival of the operator community." The franchisee said McDonald's should be "putting every resource available" into finding labor savings, through technologies such as kiosks and automatic fry dispensers.

The price increases needed to offset any added labor costs "would cause a complete collapse in guest counts," the franchisee added. "I see no other options but the company paying to keep operators alive until they figure out how to reduce labor required by 30%."

My take - From a profit standpoint, it makes sense. I do feel bad for potential cashiers, but technology is going to do it's thing. While I'm all about higher pay for retail and fast food employees, I don't want to prevent companies from taking advantage of cost saving technology.

Self checkouts are also beginning to make a comeback in supermarkets and hardware stores. And many tasks in automobile assembly plants are now accomplished by robots. It happens when the cost of unskilled labor rises to nonsensical heights.
