1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ANN] Gulden.com - PoW / Witness Hybrid - SIGMA Mining Algo on: October 08, 2019, 12:47:27 PM
Gulden.com - PoW / Witness Hybrid - SIGMA Mining Algo

Gulden is a collaboration between experienced developers and a supportive community. Together they are working on a user-friendly currency with advanced technology and a focus on security. This makes Gulden accessible for everyone. Send Gulden to each other, transfer it to any IBAN account, pay at Gulden Merchants and receive interest. Gulden functions without an account, all you need is the Gulden app.

More information: Gulden.com

PoW˛ - PoW / Witness Hybrid

The miner needs a Witness to verify the block before it becomes valid. Witnesses can only verify blocks that play according to the rules, so a miner has to share a block immediately to avoid losing money. This prevents miners from misbehaving.

A Witness is anonymous and is selected at random.
A Witness is a Gulden user that has locked his or her Gulden (min. 5000 Gulden) for a certain period of time (min. 1 Month) and receives interest from the system itself.

SIGMA - Semi Iterated Global Memory Argon

The high level functioning of SIGMA is as follows from a mining perspective:

1. A miner assembles a valid block header.
2. The full 32 bit nonce of the header is set to zero.
3. Using repeated expensive hashing of the header, a large quantity of memory is filled up in smaller chunks based on the largest memory size we are willing to tolerate for an individual hash.
4. The nonce is now treated as two separate halves that together total 32 bits, the ‘pre-nonce’ and the ’post-nonce’.
5. The miner alters the pre-nonce, and performs an expensive hash on the modified header.
6. The expensive hash from 5 is taken as the seed for a PRNG (Pseudo Random Number Generator) from which the miner sequentially generates 2^post-nonce-size sets of N random numbers. (65536 if post-nonce is 16 bits)
7. As each set of N numbers is generated the miner sets the post-nonce to the current index and uses the set values as an index to a chunk of the global memory (which we treat as the same number of chunks as sets for this purpose).
8. For each N in the set a chunk of global memory is hashed (along with the expensive hash and the modified header) using one of a selection of fast hash algorithms (also determined by the PRNG) and compared against the difficulty target.
9. If a set of N values is found for which all the resulting fast hashes are lower than the difficulty target then a valid block has been found.
10. The miner repeats 5–8 until a valid block is found
11. If the miner exhausts the pre-nonce without success he updates the block data and starts again from step 1.

Gulden team and community is a class act. Most coin devs post months in advance about updates while Gulden doesn't feed the pump groups and cause price speculation in the markets. This is one of the reasons it's my number 1 currency and looking forward to this update later whatever it may be.

Totally agree, although I haven't been following bitcoin or any other currencies for the last few months, I still keep myself updated on Gulden developments and my coins saved in cold storage.

Yeah . The only problem is that Gulden doesn't have any trading volume. I mean, it's listed on Bittrex and have only 1 btc volume.Thats pretty ridiculous on an exchange like Bittrex.

Unless the crypto cartel get involved and form a pump group it most likely won't change much. The problem is the cartels had no hand in creating this coin and therefore no pump or dump really come for it. The alt coin world is one big farce anyways besides Gulden and maybe 1 or 2 others. Most coins come onto bittrex for a week or two have massive volume and 3 months later they dead. Gulden almost 2 years old.

Its perfect that no pump and dump groups are affiliated with Gulden. This is why the price is has been more stable then bitcoin of late.
Ok i understand this, but it's pretty silly that without pump groups "support" there is almost no volume

Gulden is not p&d just for buy and long hold
And what grants you that there will be hundreds of BTC volume in the next months, years? Unfortunately you can't predict nothing in "Crypto-Land"

Luckily for us we are not playing in "Crypto-Land" and are focussing on the people who are not into crypto right now. Those people didn't have easy ways to buy Gulden, but Nocks changed that yesterday.
Why should they first buy/use Gulden, when BTC is the "base" of all cryptos now?

Because they don't how to use Bitcoin (6 years and millions of investments: still no "killer app"), but more importantly they don't want to. Have you read a Dutch newspaper lately...

Oh and the answer to your next question: Why Gulden?
Well I am sorry to break the first rule in crypto (talk but don't deliver), but we are not gonna tell you, we are gonna show you.

I have a Iphone. Is there a funding page for IOS wallets?

Welcome Mello, the iPhone wallet is almost ready for release, but you can already test it. Sign up at https://developer.gulden.com/gulden-for-ios-testflight/ and don't forget to sign up Slack, 70+ people there now (Dutch/English).

Thanks all! Funding goes really well, almost at 50%.

Happy new year all!

Some great developments for Gulden the last year and i'm sure 2016 will be the year to get more into mainstream adoption!

Some questions about the funding of the Gulden app for Android:
The IOS app is already in place and "ready" but you need funding for the android version, Why? and why 3btc? is someone else building it?
3btc is "allot" of money to fund and im willing to donate if there is more info about where the money goes.

Thanks

We hire Malcolm (MaNI) for this, he also did the iOS version for 2 BTC because it took less time. Android and iOS are two different systems, so requires two different apps.

This is nieuws of the year! All the people that left will come back. LTEx, devries, sven22, opadaniel, biomike, criptoe team , ontopicplease and many more!

When will the forum launch? Don't pump the price too high. Buy on rumor sell on news will apply. Will this forum be something new and innovative, a crypto first?

Don't play around! The new forum must be basic with a familiar feel that can work for everyone involved.

I must agree with litesire. The people that left didn't want some fancy forum. It must be clean, easy on the eyes and have the basic text settings with color, font types etc. The first forum was ideal as most people have worked with simple machines.

Good luck Jero it won't be easy to please everyone and the forums have almost destroyed the community in the past. Your forum if done right might be the binding force needed to bring the community together once more. It will be fascinating to see all those that left over the new forum come back to Gulden.

Jero will the development team also support your new forum ? This is also important.

We have spoken with Jero and agreed that we wont be supporting the new forum, this is also not necessary as it is a forum for and by the community. Also the majority of the members are also active on Slack, which is now up to 71 unique members.

Just keep in mind that when searching on Google for "Guldencoin", the Bitcointalk forum is the first choice out of 375,000 returns. When searching for just "Gulden" Bitcointalk is the ninth choice and still on the first page. Searching for "Dutch Crypto"? Number six. Just saying...

You know how many people search for 'Dutch crypto' on Google? Nobody. 0.
You know how many people search for Guldencoin on Google? Zero people.

Start thinking like a user that doesn't want to be a part of this 'Bitcoin' forum where trolls flourish like locust and where people are stuck on a level that actually explains why scams make people money and why Gulden suffered an attack. If you want to be a part of a project that is actually making something that anyone can and would want to use. Then you're in the right place. If you want to whine about silly stuff, plenty of other places you can go for that.

Or.. Or you could actually build the place where all of the people that have an actual problem with the forum(s) and build one you like and want to grow. If you don't want to do that last part either. Then there's no point in bringing up the matter and if you do, you're really just here to be a moron.

No new posts for 3 days? The problem I see if forums aren't active and you post new info people might not even bother to come back and look. Why was the first forum changed when it wasn't needed?
https://community.gulden.com/latest

Hey zonefan, you are welcome at Slack. It's busy and no trolls or fake accounts. You can talk about anything there and we have a special channel where you can share your feelings for forums. If I am not mistaken you already have an account, so you can just login otherwise feel free to make a new account at Gulden.com/join. Looking forward to chat!

The price of Gulden has nothing to do with the forums but more to do with the bitcoin price rally. I haven't used the official forums or the other 2 but from what I remember the original forum was the most active, if the price of a coin was determined only by a forum then btctalkcoin would be number 1.

That being said the official forum is a lot quieter then the other 2 were. On the surface it looks good but it is obvious that a lot of people don't like using it, maybe too far ahead of it's time for some?
The developers need to realize not everyone is as technically smart as them, what they find easy certain people might find difficult to use.

The price is not why I'm interested in Gulden. I used to study in Amsterdam 15 years ago and therefor still remember the Gulden  Smiley I do know something about communities though (part of that study) and what I see here is a coin with great potential that has lost connection with it's community. I think MaNi is right that the devteam needs to focus on developing wallets and tools and for what I've seen so far they do a great job. But if you want to build a solid user base you also need to start building on attracting new people to the project. Nothing works better to grow a crowd than building it trough word of mouth (or in these day via social media). To help the current (very small) community to start that promotion-pyramid you have to give them a place to point people to. That place needs to be something that appeals to everyone, so not only the tech savvy crypto nerds you find in this community now. Slack is not the solution for that, it is a closed medium and is extremely bad for reference to things said...

What I see is someone familiar hiding behind a new nickname, have fun.

It's surprising that this coin afloat despite the huge premine**.

Apparently a lot Dutchmen remember the good old Nederlandse gulden (officially until 1999) and do not know what crypto currency must be transparent and honest  Wink

Or, despite the huge premine and still afloat, this says something about Gulden in general...  Wink

Ok, how about Electronic Gulden? it is also a coin from the same developers?
But it looks like a clone with the same name and same premine  Cool

Just curious who was born the first Smiley

Hi, my name is Rijk, founder of this coin. Any serious questions for me, just let me know. You are also welcome to join us at slack: gulden.com/join and have a chat with the community or the devs.

What Nocks is doing is real, not some hype. And making something that is really useful takes time, 4 months is nothing. Enough with the 'innovative' updates just for the hype, we are building things that people will use because it's easy, fun and better.

And yes: #dowork

I agree mostly with the above, having iOS being used at Gulden and Bitcoin merchants is a good win and users don't have to worry if merchants accept only Gulden or Bitcoin in the Netherlands. The team deserves big credit for this idea.

I disagree that "4 months is nothing", if you only updating once every 4 months it works out to 10 updates every 4 years, unless you saying this quiet time for Nocks is a once off affair? Updates can include new merchants, services, business etc. Doesn't have to be development updates only.

That's because you don't know what this update is all about. Ofcourse it depends on the update how long it will take. But the kind of updates we are talking about are major things, serious things, not the usual crypto hype just for the noise it makes. This is about actual use. People keep comparing use to other "coins" and while I understand that, we have nothing to do with other coins. There are no examples we want to follow, because none of the 'coins' have managed to reach the general public. Pleasing the crowd here would be easy for us, but it wouldn't get us very far as it is all about perception, not progress. I see people talking about 'rich' investors, but someone saying they are rich, doesn't always mean they are... And even if there were 'rich' investors, it wouldn't change our focus.
