Why on earth do so many folks point to Amazon, eBay et al for components? God only knows what quality they are - odds are, not the best...
There are plenty of real component distributors in the world such as Mouser, DigiKey, Newark, etc. that sell top-quality components made by trustworthy manufacturers and sold at a very decent price.

Stuff from Amazon et al are so cheap for a very good reason...

Well, mostly because we don't have access otherwise.  I live in a fairly populated area and to this day, after 8 years, I can't find anyone that will supply or fix small electronics.  Just sad, but, on the other hand its forced me to learn how to diy

Or maybe just pure marketing genius? I didn't even want to buy more after I got the last one but with all the hype I couldn't help myself  Smiley

I hear ya, its hard to ignore the call, isn't it?   Damned mining bug!

If there is such a huge call for what you make then perhaps its time to consider raising the price to make them a premium.  As it is your products are being sold after the fact on e-Bay for four times what they originally sold for.  Doesn't that tell you something?  Stop thinking small time and get going on what you are good at.
Just my 2 sats: I wouldn't buy this device for 3600€. Never. I love the project and the product and the whole idea of decentralizing mining and bringing it into the homes, and that's why I think he wants as many households to have one Apollo instead of having a few people hoarding them. That's why it seems he puts those restrictions in place, and I think it would be counterproductive to the maxime of decentralizing mining again if the price was 4x what it is now.
It's already going to be hard to amortize the cost at 900 bucks per machine, so a higher price and removal of purchasing limits would not help in the decentralization.

I understand you point and agree with most of it.  My point was more toward getting the production numbers substantially increased to not only get them into more hands but to get rid of the buying restrictions already being put in place.

How do you enable multiple Moonlander ‘s all on the same usb board, OR are they All started up with just one execution of the .bat startup script?

PS: a side question, have these miners been discontinued?  Or will there eventually be more for sale?

When you say "same usb board" I'm going to assume you mean the same instance of bfgminer.  Or, in other words, have them all run together in the same mining window.  Yes, its very possible.  Just use the " -S MLD:all" command.  There are many examples of how to set up your .bat script on the forum.  The best one I've found is from the how to guide put together by Eyeboot " https://www.eyeboot.com/download/Futurebit-Moonlander-2-Scrypt-Asic-USB-Miner/MOONLANDER2-USB-Setup-Guide.pdf?__cf_chl_jschl_tk__=pmd_TYtIt5yNnfcBFQwp4MHH2el_7ThZQtcYCDo8kyMo1N8-1630547739-0-gqNtZGzNAjujcnBszQhl"

Your second question is easily answered; there is no plan to continue but they could if more chips become available.  The project owners have moved on to bigger things including another new project coming out at the end of September.  Check out Futurebit.io for more info

Hi There admin,

i have the issue that i can't mine other scrypt coins than Litecoin because of the coin address format which i think must be reviewed and modify in your BFGminer tool as there are many Scrypt coins out there with different coin address formats starting with A.... instead of L.... for example. using another address than Litecoin results in: "Invalid Coinbase-address"

Please try to solve this issue which will help a lot!

Thanks!

rgds

First, the one thing you should not be doing is mining directly to anything other than your own wallet address.  Using a coinbase address is risky at best.  Scrypt mining is scrypt mining so its got nothing to do with the address.  BFGminer also has nothing to do with your address being rejected.  It has everything to do with what address you're trying to input.  You may just have to mine to a litecoin address and exchange to the coin you actually want.  Some projects are just not supported.  Sorry, but that's the nature of crypto.  It's a pain in the arse and pretty much everyone has a story about how many freakin' wallets they've had to download and build just to mine the coin.  Trust me, its been done and its how its almost always done to make it work.  Its the reason most exchanges exist.

Is there an ETA already? I mean something more detailed other than "Q4"? And info on whether there are any delays or so which might push delivery past December?

All components are already on order, but the IC situation is getting ridiculous. We’ve had parts get delayed for months and have to scramble to buy stock on secondary markets (where we get price gouged 10x).

Things are very fluid and even more so as we increase our production capacity. We were late by about a month for the first two batches so don’t want to put in unrealistic expectations this round. With that being said we *should* be able to start shipping in November.

Even Apple is getting affected by this…the fact that we can produce anything with less than a year leadtime at this point is a miracle (and lots of fucking work).

Thanks for your updates John, its much appreciated for those of us that have followed you for quite some time.  Having said that I have to raise an issue with your outgoing email regarding the announcement of Batch 3.  I'm not a big investor, I have excretionary funds available once in a while, but being told that I can't order a unit because I may have ordered one from the last batch is completely and arbitrarily stupid.
If I want to buy one I will.  If I can afford to buy one I will.  Not everyone can and I understand that but -- and here's the big problem-- WHEN YOU ANNOUNCE THE NEW UNIT ON THE FORUM ITS THE FORUM MEMBERS THAT ARE GOING TO ORDER IT.  All of us are big supporters and will continue to be so and as a result will continue to buy what you put out.  Stop telling us that we can't order again because we've purchased in the past.  What are you trying to do?  Limiting orders is limiting your profit and production.   If there is such a huge call for what you make then perhaps its time to consider raising the price to make them a premium.  As it is your products are being sold after the fact on e-Bay for four times what they originally sold for.  Doesn't that tell you something?  Stop thinking small time and get going on what you are good at.  We will continue to support you, that's not a question its a fact.  You are the seemingly only bright light in this chaos of shit products and shady companies.  Do more and get better suppliers as you go, its a no brainer from my end but then....... what the fuck do I know.

I highly suggest that any other forum members that are willing to show their support do so by sending a message and making sure this "shortage of supply" and "having to pre-order" doesn't continue for much longer.  Anyone??  Anyone else want to chime in?
8  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac / Terminus R606 (BM1387) Official Support Thread on: August 27, 2021, 12:29:56 AM

I was meant to update this. Its got me stumped. Currently running at 600m V5 for the past couple of days without issue. It could well be a problem with the Pi instead. But I don’t know. It works fine when it works. When the issue arose then it would take a couple of power cycles and then it would work fine on stock settings.

I would suggest removing all other sources of interference and working from the bare minimum to start.  Replace the USB cable; they are notorius for failing and causing these types of issues. Try plugging into another processing unit or pc to see if the issue persists.  Eliminate the Pi as an issue before moving on.

Yep tried three different cables all all experienced the same thing. Can’t try another pc as its windoze 10 and an arse.

Coincidentally this evening after knocking my desk, the cable moved and the problem started again. I’m going to take a look at the micro usb socket on the board and see if I can replace it.

Ah, okay...... so the issue has been somewhat narrowed.  Unfortunate that a weak connection may be the culprit. Just as a point of reference I had something similar happen a few months back where it would start hashing and then immediately fade to nothing.  Turned out there was too much draw on the one supply I was using although it was the same it had always been.  I changed psu's and "eh voila" it was back.  Still running strong at 738.   As you replied to me on e-Bay I am interested and do have several Newpacs available that are no longer in use if you're interested in a trade/exchange.  Would be great if you could get the pod sorted first of course, ha ha.

Hi guys,

Sorry to bother you all again, but my cable arrived (thanks for the info!) and I’ve got my R606 running on CGMiner now, but I’m seeing some readout info that I don’t understand, and I was hoping someone could enlighten me!

First thing is:

I’m seeing 0: GSI 0 - R606 Bitcoin Miner (10040525) in between the ‘accepted…’ share messages that scroll down the screen;

Second thing is:

I’ve got the R606 USB directly plugged into my computer in case that matters, I’ve got the appropriate power supply, and I’m running it at setting 3, 420 mV. But the WU seems to fluctuate… it’s reading “75.1% WU: ^68%” but it fluctuates up to 100% on both counts sometimes. Is there something wrong with it, or is that normal given the power setting?

Right now it’s putting out 500 Gh/s but again, that fluctuates.

Do you guys think it’s okay? Also, what does 75.1% WU: ^68% mean?

Thanks again guys!

Welcome to the mining community.

WU is for Work Utility.  Its a measurement of how much you are distributed from the pool.  It will bounce up and down for the most part until you have a very stable vardiff that doesn't change.  Variable difficulty is sent by the pool to establish the best connection speed and "work" your units are able to provide without getting clogged or waiting too long for a response.  Each pool has their own rules as to how much is the "goldilocks" rate so don't worry too much about that.  The version of CGMiner used for the Gekkoscience products are auto adjustiing and will find the best rate based on what you're putting into the startup file.

Once everything settles down you should see a balance that changes very little.  For example: 8 Newpacs @ 500mhz will start out at less than 70% but after an hour or so will be at 98% and 95% WU.  If you 'Overclock" have a good fan on them.

For those who have a "standard" unit.  No controller board and must be connected to a pc or pi.

The following config is not recommended and will shorten the life of your Apollo but its fun as hell to see it work for a short period of time.

This thing is capable of up to 4 TH/s if you get the right chips.

You must have a PSU capable of providing the necessary power; the 200w brick won't do it.

I'm seeing bursts of 4 TH/s with an average of 3.85 with the following config:  .\apollo-miner.exe -host ca.stratum.slushpool.com -port 3333 -user ****** -pswd x -comport COM13 -brd_ocp 100  -osc 50 -ao_mode 1
pause

These settings are being reported as 0.075 W/Gh/s  which means its taking 285 watts to produce those numbers.  Not exactly efficient for this little guy but as mentioned its fun to see it can do it.

The config provided in the download link on this thread is working great.  Just change the board power settings and you're off to the races.

As the welcome card in the box says: Happy Mining Smiley

We always over-design our boards...ASICs and cooling system can easily handle the 4 TH/s max only limiting factor is the buck design, since we had to go with a dual FET package due to space. You could probably put a heatsink on the fet and run it at this settings 24/7 if you really wanted too but definitely dont recommend it if you dont know what your doing.

Thanks John!

Always appreciate your input....... although as mentioned the efficiency drops at those settings but, hey, if ya got cheap power who the hell cares?

I will definitely find a heatsink or three to help with cooling.  I'm in Canada so ambient temp is always cold ha ha ha...... no, not really; just think Oregon or Wa....same. At least here on the best coast....er I mean west coast.

Any one else here Canadian? and willing to share what your import duty and tax is?

Just received a message from Fedex asking for another $61 bucks to make the delivery.

Total from original purchase to the door:  $527.17 Cdn

Expected ROI: about 8.5 years at 17 cents a day BUT! that's at todays market numbers so in a month from now your income could double, triple or quadruple.  Buy the DIP!!!!

For standard hashing unit:

What is the -ao_mode 1 in the last command line parameter?
How to disable Exporting stat  ...  ERROR: cannot create file descriptor

Otherwise booted and started thrashing immediately on slushpool.

Showing 3.1 TH/s poolside

Would love to hear from Sidehack about future product dreams.  Also curious about the decision to discontinue the R606 - they just seemed to be hitting their stride.  Perhaps supply issues is to blame.

Anyone else have any insight???

17  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R606 750GH (up to 1TH) quiet miner, now shipping on: May 21, 2021, 05:01:51 PM
My understanding about the R606 supply is that there were only a few left that were purchased over the last number of weeks.  They have officially been discontinued but the orders have still not shipped.  I have one on order through bitcoinmerch and one coming from 419mining as a replacement.  At the time of purchase there was a 4-6 week wait period which has now come and gone.  Still waiting.

If you're extremely lucky you might be able to find one in the wild that someone is wanting to sell on e-bay or amazon but chances are pretty slim one will pop up.

Send a PM to sidehack and see if they still have one in the shop.  Ya never know.

Ya might be better served to pre-buy the next batch of the new Apollo BTC miner instead.  Have a look at it.  About the same cost but twice the mining power for a few more watts of juice.

Batch 2 is not announced yet, any stock showing up on the site is from people canceling their pre-order.

Howza bout an update J?  Did ya get all the goodies for assembly?  Any testing results?  Just excited to hear anything Smiley Keep up the great work!
19  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Say. If somebody built another small miner... on: March 06, 2021, 07:00:31 PM
So its been a couple of months now since you proposed the idea and from what I've read you have a big thumbs up for the go ahead.

Is there an update forthcoming on what you're dreaming up? My R606 and 8 newpacs are looking for a new friend.  I also ordered the standalone miner from Apollo so waiting on that one to arrive.

Anything home BTC miner related is a big swing in the right direction so I will continue to support any company or persons that develop them.

Ok, thanks for the info.  Weird that its asking for so much.

Cool  Woohoo   order#3699 completed.  Looking forward to it.  Along with my R606 and Newpacs it will be another new toy to annoy my wife  Grin
