Well, since I have no idea at all what I'm doing, or exactly what a bitcoin is, I figure the newbie thread is exactly where I belong. 

Hi. I'm Snowflower. This is a flower that blooms early in the spring in the mountains and comes up through the snow.

I know nothing about bitcoin and have joined this forum in hopes that it will start making sense to me eventually. Right now my computer is downloading something or other - says it is 78% finished now and it's been a bit more than an hour. The site that started explaining it to me said it might take several hours.  I'm not even sure what it is I'm downloading, but just decided to make a beginning and see if I can make sense of it after awhile.
