1  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [ANN] New bitcoin development mailing list on: October 30, 2015, 05:50:30 AM
That was a prophetic statement that is so true. Business people may well be put off by the slagging matches and so on. Im not sure if its an age group thing or just the mentality that creates that grinding effect, but its not really needed or warranted... Best left in the playground
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin XT - Officially #REKT (also goes for BIP101 fraud) on: October 30, 2015, 05:49:01 AM
Hey. XT did light the fire under people to get something decided. We need bigger blocks, and the Core developers only care about selling themselves to Blockstream.

So give XT the respect it deserves
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CCTV: HK billionaire kidnapped and ransom asked to be paid in bitcoin on: October 30, 2015, 05:45:58 AM
These guys watch too much movies... It would be better for them to demand this in international wire transfers to offshore bank accounts or to take this in smaller quantities in

many different locations. They are after all linked to Triad gangs and can easily force someone to do the pickups for them and have zero chance of being captured.

Bitcoin is absolutely the worst way to pay ransom demands... if they want to convert it to fiat to fund their other operations. Crazy stuff.... and nowhere close to the best

option for this kind of thing.  Roll Eyes
4  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [ANN] Bither - simple&secure Bitcoin wallet.(iOS v1.4.0 released) on: October 30, 2015, 05:44:51 AM

I don't really see how this makes a hardware wallet obsolete. A phone can always fail/brick/die/break/whatever. A hardware wallet never ever connects to the internet and never can. It will always go through a computer, the keys can be generated by it's seed and it's security is a lot better then some app on some phone (think of Trezor's pincode input). I would like to know what kind of steps you have taken to ensure security on the cold wallet phone (except disabling all communication).

I would prefer Trezor instead of Bither, but oh well, that is my personal opinion and subject to change. I do wish you all the best and good luck with this project!

6  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: NAMG - North American Miner Group - New Concept, NEED INPUT from YOU! on: October 30, 2015, 05:41:43 AM
I'm not sure you'd have enough power with your 800A 480V setup to drive the 5PH of gear.  If my math isn't failing me (it probably is, so I apologize in advance if I screwed up my calculations), that setup would give you total available power of 664.32kVA.  If you could covert that completely to 208V power, it would give you 1846A at 208V.  Even if you could get that at a 0.99 power factor, that would give you an absolute total of about 658kW.  5PH of S7s would require about 1.25MW for the gear alone.

Just food for thought..
7  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to create a PULL request on: October 30, 2015, 05:40:21 AM

Since the project is open source, anyone can change the files.  However, this creates a "fork", their version of the software is different from everyone else's.  This means that they need to incorporate any future changes into their fork.

A pull request allows them to submit the change back to the main project.  If it is accepted, the changes become part of the official version of the software.

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Be safe: READ THIS BEFORE TRADING/BUYING/USING YOUR MONEY on: October 30, 2015, 05:33:53 AM
Another sign: when you are a reputable member like me, and when you ask the noob to send first and suddenly they stop replying to your PM. Scammer! Maybe I should start a list in the public interest?

Latest possible scammer(s):

- penetration -> confirmed scammer has scammed multiple people

EDIT: I have decided I will keep this list updated and maintained. (and of course remove people who later turn out not to be scammers - but if they are genuinely looking for a trade and have only about 100 posts why would they not send first to someone like me? Hopefully I can help everyone here)
11  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Tips for local transactions on: October 30, 2015, 05:32:29 AM
- http://shadowlife.cc/2012/11/secure-and-professional-bitcoin-otc-exchanges

I haven't completed all that many in-person trades myself but more than once now I have been asked to sell for cash an amount of bitcoins larger than any amount I would be selling by myself.  But had I previously gotten in contact with other traders in my area a larger trade amount probably could have been arranged since that would allow me to have to trade only up to my personal max level and then also there would be two or more of us present when the cash traded hands.

As far as buying bitcoins from an untrusted stranger, the risk of double spending (due to either a Race attack or a Finney attack) is significant enough to require at least one confirmation (or a Green address transfer or a service such as a LocalBitcoins "Transaction" where the funds released to the buyer would always be already-confirmed funds).

One challenge with in-person trading is with communications and coordinating the meet.  Unless you are already planning on spending a couple hours at a coffee shop or wherever, make sure to specify in advance your expectations otherwise you'll often be stuck waiting for your trading partner to show, oftentimes in vain.

For a recent trade the buyer arrived on time but he needed to get cash from an ATM.  It was only then that he learned that his bank account has a low maximum daily withdrawal amount, leaving me holding more bitcoins (and less cash) than I had planned.  Had I confirmed that the buyer had cash in-hand before even setting a meeting time and location is something that would have saved me time, money and the resulting headache
12  Economy / Marketplace / Re: All in one marketplace! What do you think? on: October 30, 2015, 05:31:03 AM

From dreamer to "dreamer" (predictor). The first want to create all in one marketplace the other applaud his idea and tell his that the materialization of this idea will make that him to control the world market. Someone other maybe will go even a little more. Will tell that this materialization will help him to rule the market in the moon when this market will be created.

Wake up people. Give constructive ideas about the idea of OP or if you cannot do this. Congrats with him and encourage him to realize what he want. But don't tell bullshits. Those maybe can damage him.
13  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Free Script] Untitled Dice - Run your own bitcoin dice site (no server needed) on: October 30, 2015, 05:30:00 AM
Added an FAQ section to the first post that answers this question.

I will soon update the script so that it makes it more clear *why* the Faucet is failing.

Let me know if you still have trouble after setting up ReCaptcha, joclixal.
14  Economy / Economics / Re: [CHART] Bitcoin Inflation vs. Time on: October 30, 2015, 05:28:55 AM
Inflation in this case is the increase in the supply of money (sometimes called money supply inflation).
At the point where the graph indicates 10% it means the money supply is growing at 10% annualized rate at that point in time.

It is sometimes useful for people to be specific (price inflation vs money supply inflation).  Obviously both "sides" believe their definition of inflation is the right one but it always leads to confusion and/or fights.  If everyone simply used the terms price inflation or money supply inflation it would always be clear.
15  Economy / Marketplace / Re: What are you selling for Bitcoin? What can you buy with B? Discuss and post here on: October 30, 2015, 05:25:46 AM
Well I was inspired a little by this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=502479.0

What are you currently selling for Bitcoin? What have you seen for sale for Bitcoin?

It's impossible to keep up with everything, so I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised by all the different things you can buy with BTC  Grin

Post away guys!

I will not investigate potential scams please be smart.
16  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: In 2015, faucets are bad for bitcoin on: October 30, 2015, 05:24:29 AM
Do you realize how little BTC faucets give you? It takes weeks to have any amount to spend on something. I guess it's as wasteful as walking around all day dropping pennies on the ground because most people don't have the patience to accumulate enough bitcoin to do anything with so it ends up sitting in a wallet in < $1 balances.

The gambling component of faucets often allows the BTC to go back to the faucet user and then the facets ads are viewed at the same time (which is the real business faucets are in, advertising.)
