1  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: ✰ [ANN] BITMIXER.IO ✰ High Volume Bitcoin Mixer ✰ on: October 21, 2015, 06:32:14 AM
I chose bitmixer.io when the problems with bitcoinfog started. This service was good - low %, several parameters to choose.
That was so until this morning. I added the forward address, set time delay, and tried to download letter of guarantee - result - empty window with words - Address not found. I've tried several times with .io site and .onion mirror. Always same result. May be that was kind of a glitch and i sent tester - 1btc  ...  poor bitcoin got lost in a black hole Sad

support says "Sadly without the letter of guarantee I can not help. You should always download the letter first before sending any funds. "
So  +225$ to your piggy bank guys! Now I move to send-shared! Have a good day!

You were not on the real bitmixer.

Im assuming this is a malicious exit node changing the redirect from the homepage to a malicious .onion link instead of the real address. This is not the only thing they could change. Never trust clearnet sites when using tor. Even to redirect to a .onion url

I visited bitmixer.io and clicked the pop up link to redirect me to the onion url. But did not end up at the real bitmixer onion url

Real .onion address:
bitmixer2whesjgj.onion

Fake .onion address:
bitmix6zfuz7zmnv.onion

Everything appeared legitimate until you go to download the letter of guarantee. At which point you are presented with the following error

"Address not found."

I double checked the url to notice it wasnt correct

They did not get any of my precious coins thankfully

If you had a few hundred million dollars you felt like burning this might be possible. And by burning i mean investing it all in mining hardware which would be worthless by the time you were done. Since you would likely kill POW for bitcoin and another security model would be considered making your miners paperweights

If you invalidated a years worth of transactions there would really be no choice but to invalidate that chain and reset to the block before the attack

So it seems someone with a few hundred million dollars they want to throw at bitcoin has a few options

1. Waste it and attempt to kill bitcoin which would likely affect the price. But the chain would recover.

2. Mine non maliciously with their mining hardware possibly making a profit

3. Buy bitcoin and day trade

A few hundred million dollars is a lowball estimate I made. I would guess the real number is closer to 1 billion than 1 million

Sorry to hear about your loss. It could have been avoided. but all you can do now is learn from your mistakes.

Run untrusted software in its own vm, Put 2fa on everything possible, and if possible have a machine dedicated to only wallets. You dont want the host os getting taken over and the attacker having access to the vms.

Hardware wallets are another solution but few alt coins are supported.

Did I understand that right that he sent the coins to bittrex Huh If so your best bet now is to contact bittrex. They wont be able to help much, But maybe they will freeze the jackasses account before he can withdrawal his funds
