I'm short of approximately 30 BTCs...

2  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: OCZ 900W modstream can't cope with 3x GPU? on: August 22, 2012, 09:07:27 AM
Single-rail PSU is the only way to go. Mine NZXT Hale90 850W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817116012 (on same mobo) handles 5970 + 2x5870 without problems.
3  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: [0.2BTC bounty] Need thermal pad thickness of 5970 hotspots on: August 18, 2012, 06:14:18 AM
I've already repaired two 5970s (disassemble, clean cooler fins, change fan, put new grease on cores and new pads on VRMs, reassemble) by using 0.5 mm pads and very thin layer of Coollaboratory liquid ultra.

It's quite tricky, because none of the original pads seems to be exactly 1.0mm or 0.5mm, but I've put with 0.5 on VRMs and VRAMs and it works. The pink and light green components (you have swapped light green and dark green colors in description) are also cooled, but that doesnt seems to be critical, as they have same function as components on the left to orange VRMs which aren't cooled at all...

As I've experienced (the hard way - one core on one of the cards is malfunctioning), the thickness isn't the biggest issue, but precision during reassembly is.
4  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: suitable for mining? on: June 20, 2012, 09:52:26 PM
That PC is rather not suitable for mining - 6870 can't do more than 350 MH/s, 470 just about 100 MH/s, which will produce approximately 0.25 coins/day. How much do you pay for electricity? I wouldn't buy it unless you are on flat rate (that's the only way you can reach some profit).
5  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ Bonus PPS Pool - 110% ] - Public Beta - WAITING LIST OPEN on: June 17, 2012, 10:21:07 PM
What kind of witchcraft you've used? Pool is now running super smooth for me with rejects averaging 1% and decreasing!

I've also noticed drop in efficiency value computed by cgminer. I don't really know what that number really means, but the drop certainly indicates some change in the way the pool operates, am I right?
6  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: List of motherboard that require shorting pin A1 B17 for pci-e 1x to work. on: June 16, 2012, 04:22:16 PM
Do I need this shortcut trick to plug card into full 16x slot with only 1x to 1x riser on my 890FXA? I guess so (to let mobo know that it can use just 1x mode) but you know better to be safe then soory so I am asking first Smiley
7  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is this a configuration (driver) good setup for running a (5) 5830 miner? on: June 16, 2012, 08:13:04 AM
32bit windows CANNOT run more than 4 cards.  Install 64bit.
Where exactly is the restriction? In number of phycical cards or number of chips?
I understand that it's imposible to fit 5 5830s in W7 32 bit, but is it possible to fit there for example three 5970s?

Well, your should pay more attention to registration process as these informations were clearly presented there. Don't be stupid Wink
10  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Miner for occasional minig on non dedicated PC on: June 14, 2012, 08:18:51 PM
Yeah I know that this won't be a serious business (I have a dedicated 1GH rig), but hey, at least something. There won't be neither additional investments (not a single piece of new hardware) nor additional costs - that few hours of mining can be covered by our small solar panel system (which is unfortunately too small to return electricity into distribution network or power bigger rig for 24/7 mining).
11  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Miner for occasional minig on non dedicated PC on: June 14, 2012, 07:25:49 PM
Hi guys,

At home we have computer with unused 5830 (I'm off to dorms so no one plays 3D games anymore) and I wonder if there is a such a Windows miner that:
* Runs quietly in background (no windows visible to close, because of younger sister)
* Copes well (doesn't crash, can restart work) with suspending PC (putting into "sleep" mode)

That PC is used by whole family and I have no intention to change anything about the routine how it's used (most of the day it's powered off or suspended), just to use the time when someone is using it.

Thank you!
12  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 14, 2012, 06:33:56 PM
sergio: tht's true for completely stock card, but you can improve it by rather small investment. I've changed fan (the old one was rattling, the new from eBay is even more efficient) and thermal compound to coolaboratory liquid Wink and both core temps keeps about 65°C under the full load (both cores @ 690/160/0.95). the stock cooler is really great, it just need accompany with equally good accessories (the stock compound seems to me like the cheapest one they could possibly find)
13  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 14, 2012, 04:37:12 PM
You would probably get more hashes overall by just lowering clocks and not restarting every x minutes.....  and not just heat and clocks...  electricity.   I get about 2.5Mh/w   above my clocks, you get about 1Mh/w
Yeah probably, I'm not sure how many watts I'm pulling from wall.

This setup is really pretty much defensive (I've tried 680MHz for couple days 24/7 without problems with crashing or overheating) to counter the accumulation of heat in my closed case (which is essential for my rig because of dirty environment).

Luckily I'm currently on flat rate so I don't have to care about MH/W Wink
14  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 14, 2012, 04:19:28 PM
ajstar:  i run mine at 675.  maybe your lower mem allows the card to go to 690?  how long do they stay stable?

The following rig was restarted May9th. i think because of an upgrade of cgminer .. cant remember.

O, and by the way, this rig only pulls about 850watts

Yeah, the lower mem probably helps. It is supposed to add few MHashes as well (according to one post I'm not able to find to refer).
My specs are W7 32bit, Catalyst 11.12, Stream SDK 2.1, cgminer 2.4.2

I don't know about long term stability. As a precaution of unstable settings and overheating I've written smal Powershell script which restarts cgminer every X minutes with Y minutes pause between cycles to cool down a bit (currently set to X=240 and Y=10 so I'm actually mining 23/7).

I've tried to go for 700, but that was too unstable (typically crashed in less than 15 minutes).
15  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 14, 2012, 03:15:38 PM
About VRMs: I'm running my 5970 @ 690/160/0.95V/70% with VRMs @ 80°C which I believe is quite reasonable temperature for 24/7 mining. Yes, they are rated for 120°C, but they can operate at that temperature for a limited amount of time. One month of 24/7 mining is equal like a half a year of quite hardcore gaming (4 hours/day). If card is rated to last two years with such a gaming use it means that by mining you will smoke it in less than 4 months.

17  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: PCI -> PCIE adapter on: May 23, 2012, 12:43:27 AM
For your case (putting PCIE card into PCI) you would need something like this: http://eu.startech.com/Cards-Adapters/Slot-Extension/PCI-to-PCI-Express-Adapter-Card~PCI1PEX1 but it's nonsense. Buy a proper MoBo instead :-)
18  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1094 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); supporting p2sh! on: May 22, 2012, 11:53:51 AM
Hi Slush, Hi Everyone,

Is waiting 100 confirmations really necessary? Did you ever saw a block with 10 or even 5 confirmations to be invalid?
Like many, I don't like waiting for confirmations... Blocks get confirmed ~20 hours after being discovered, I think this is way too much waiting...

Also, I hope DGM will come soon, because I don't like hoppers (but I like slush's pool, don't want to switch to ozcoin...)

What's the big deal? Mining is longterm business, couple of hours won't kill you.

Yes, there are pools that pay right after block discovery, but they are doing it at their own risk. Slush's pool is in this way very conservative (and this is IMHO good).

Maybe 50 would be enough, but that makes no difference though - 10 or 20 hours vs. weeks or months of mining....
19  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ Bonus PPS Pool - 110% ] - Public Beta - REGISTRATION OPEN on: May 21, 2012, 10:27:56 PM
Are there any stats of whole pool? Stuff like total GHs, number of users... I'm just curios Smiley
