Is this true? If I use their 'instawallet' instead (yuk, I hate insta...) then I guess I'm relying on them as a clearing bank and undermining the p2p nature of bitcoins. What's the real story?

Just downloaded bitcoin-qt 0.6.2 on Ubuntu 12.04. My computer crashed for some reason with about 35000 to go on getting the block list. Now whenever I run it I get... Loading Block index... Runaway exception NSt8ios_base7failureECAutoFile::read: end of file. Any ideas?
