1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: COINTERRA IS REAL -> NO SCAM!!! on: November 28, 2013, 08:56:44 PM
Great to hear you had such a good time! Exciting to hear.

CoinTerra's growth has been explosive since I first met Ravi at the San Jose conference.

I'm fully aware of the significance of Jez San in the computing and video games industry, but how does any of this prove you are him? Googling "Jez San", will prove precisely nothing.

Is there a verifiable Jez San account on Linked In, or possibly twitter? Can we cross verify this, as I will state, for the record, that for aerobatic to be the actual Jez San is quite a claim (for those who are unaware of Jez San's significance as the entrepreneur behind Argonaut Software).

Hey Carlton... pm me your phone number and i will call you if you like.  i am definitely me.  i can prove it any way you like (thats not too much trouble.. so don't make me dance on some fiery object)

I can vouch that Jez is who he says he is. I'm an angel investor in CoinTerra and am in regular touch with him and the other angels. Based on all my sources I also have every reason to believe tape-out happened when announced. (My full name is Tuur Demeester)

Ik ben idd angel investor bij CoinTerra. Ik vertrek later deze week om een handje toe te steken bij het team in Austin.

Vragen stellen mag altijd.

Altijd? Ook de afgezaagde standaard vragen? Wink

1. Wat gaan jullie produceren?
2. Enig idee waarneer jullie kunnen leveren?

Hi Tuur, when you state 'completely new industry' of crypto currency transaction clearing, do you just mean ASIC mining devices, or something more exotic w.r.t. purchasing and mainstream accepence?

Pushing Bitcoin mining forward with ASIC technology is exotic enough to me :-)
6  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: August 08, 2013, 10:43:53 PM
Well I hope you get what you're looking for out of your investment. Are we allowed to know any specific details? (I assume not) I'm curious if you get access to cheaper products/discounts, or other perks.

The perk for the angel is that if the value of the company goes up, so does the value of your investment. I'm sorry, I can't release any specific details.
7  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: August 08, 2013, 10:07:09 PM
I'm suspicious of Cointerra. They are entering a market of consumers who have been fucked and misled by every ASIC mining company. Why are they any different than anyone else? All these companies have proven to be motivated by the dream of printing money, just as much as their consumers are motivated to throw money at them to finance their dreams, and then never get their product. So, big deal, Cointerra has access to better technology, does this mean we should automatically assume they will run a more honest business? You can talk all you want about business models that favor the consumer, while you plan on taking pre-orders, and plan on delivering late because you do what every other mining company has done: massive delays without any real excuse, misleading consumers, etc. At what point should we assume you are anymore honest than they were?

Another concern is the fact that you have only announced one product, over .5 TH. How is that good for the market? It will most probably be too expensive for entry level miners. See, that is proof that you don't care about what will make the real Bitcoin market strong, and that is the small people.

I hope I'm wrong.

I've been in talks with Ravi and his team since the San Jose conference. When considering an investment, probing the integrity of the people involved is an important part of my investigation - long lasting business success in a non-protected market just doesn't grow on dishonest soil.

All my findings have confirmed my initial impression that this is a group of ethical and extremely skilled people that have the vision to help shape a completely new industry - that of crypto currency transaction clearing. This idea is very exciting to me, which is why I decided to become an angel investor.

Great photo !

they seem happy.. but they could be anybody.. how convenient that your lens was smudged ;-)  !

I can attest there is no hostility at all between Cointerra and KnCMiner. Anyone attending Inside Bitcoins in New York could see Ravi and Sam chatting throughout the day.

Here's a shot I snapped of them at the EVR afterparty (forgive the poor quality, my lens was condensated):

Compare with the linkedin profiles here:

If you still think this isn't real you are gravely overestimating my photoshop skills ;-)

Bitstamp is aware of the problem and in talks with other banks. I expect new partnerships announced, possibly soon.

Could you say something more about who exactly is organizing the event, and why it is in Amsterdam? (I'm not seeing any Dutch sounding names, for example)

My understanding towards your speech is that every time there is a bail-in action someplace in the world, the demand for bitcoin will soar and so as the bitcoin price. If another bail-in happens in some major western country (such as France), the bitcoin price may go to a level beyond our wildest imagination. Is that correct?

I think that wouldn't be an unreasonable expectation. Bitcoin has similar fundamental underpinnings as precious metals have: its qualities of liquidity, divisibility, ease of transport, ease of storage, and nonconfiscatability make it a near perfect safe haven asset in times of crisis.

Of course the bottleneck effects that we see whenever there's a surge in Bitcoin interest are still at play. Those will likely create temporary panics which then result in sell offs - such as the ones we've seen in 2011 and earlier this year.

In other words, while every new bail-in will potentially function as an afterburner for price the price of Bitcoin, we can expect a rocky ride ahead. Volatility will be the name of the game for the foreseeable future - but long term I expect much higher prices.

Hi Tuur,

Thanks for sharing the slides with us! I watched your speech on youtube the other day and was impressed by the facts you mentioned, such as FSB , a powerful financial institution which I had never heard of before. Since most people in China could not visit youtube, I decided to translate your speech into Chinese so that more people could know it.

I'm a fan of your blog. Let's keep working and spread the word of bitcoin to people all over the world.

Hi realdos, many thanks for this. Indeed, everyone deserves to hear the good word about Bitcoin!

I just donated some Bitcents to 17C2BgXvn6BDJkhTb4VgN8DKzVogstmpsT, which I assume is your public address.

I've always thought that the part of my brain that instantly resonated with Bitcoin was the part that grew up in the Argentina of the 1970s to 1990s... we have a leg up when it comes to a deep understanding of money that others, like Americans, are only now coming to terms with.

This has also been my experience. It usually only takes 5 minutes of talking after a Mexican, Argentinian, or Russian 'gets' what the real advantages of Bitcoin are. It's also striking how many bitcointrepreneurs have roots in eastern Europe for example (Romania, Slovenia, Ukrain, Russia) - I don't think this is a coincidence. There is a lot more Bitcoin inertia in Europe and the US.

May I make a voice translation of this video for Russian users?

Of course! Perhaps you can post the link in this thread once you're finished.

Question, you mention the "Shadow Economy" using BTC could cause the price to $160,000.  Do you think the problems with Liberty Reserve could indeed spur this on sooner, rather than later?  Personally, I am not sure I am too excited about making profit from questionable underground activity, but I am curious nonetheless.

I think LR crackdown fits in the pattern of the 'hunt for the rich' and 'no more money laundering' (crackdown on offshore banking), and 'let everyone pay its fair share' that we are seeing lately. I don't think governments have all of the sudden grown a conscience, I just think they're rather desperate for money these days. And so they try to raise money whichever way they can, not very successfully.

Consequence is a growth of the 'black engine':
- state workers get lower wages and thus become more bribable
- supervision can become less strict because of lay offs in the government
- increasingly insecure environment for the 'white' / 'official' businesses
- high unemployment caused by higher taxation/more bureaucracy/higher frugality

That's the bigger picture that I'm seeing. The more the 'shadow banking' sector is under attack and the stronger the trend from cash to mobile becomes, the more I see decentralized cryptocurrencies gain traction in the world of informal trade.
