1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What You Need To Know To Get FREE Bitcoin Gold During The Fork. on: October 17, 2017, 08:12:19 AM
Yes you will need to find a wallet that supports the forked coin and passphrase in order to access the forked coins.
Also remember that with the passphrase you will be able to access any BTC as well (if present). so remember to move the BTC (if you will not use it soon I suggest paper wallet)...
Yes the first step would be to transfer BTC to a new wallet after the date of the fork. I would do that before attempting any steps to claim BTG.

Ahh if you have the recover phrase - yes you have the private keys and will be able to access them Wink
Good think they have changed it (I used them in the beginning and do not remember how it was back then 4 years ago..)

But as they give you the keys it is you how has access to the wallets and you will be able to access them the same way you did with BCH Wink
Well... when I claimed BCH I did it two ways.

At the time of the BCH fork my BTC was in 'imported addresses' which were BTC addresses imported into the new blockchain wallet interface from the previous incarnation of the blockchain wallet. These imported addresses were not held in the user's main blockchain wallet, and they were not recoverable using the recovery phrase for the main wallet. Rather the user was given the exact private key for each imported address. Therefore it was possible to use the private key to claim your BCH from each address. In my case I used a process with Coinomi where I entered the private key for each imported address and was able to claim my BCH that way. I used that process to claim approximately half of my BCH.

Then blockchain announced they would support BCH and would provide a tool for claiming BCH. So I decided to wait for that to go live to claim the rest of my BCH rather than use Coinomi coz tbh that process was a pain in the neck, Coinomi's BCH support was quite buggy. So I was able to use the blockchain.info tool to claim the second portion of my BCH from the last of my imported addresses.

However at the time of the BCH fork I didn't have any BTC in my main blockchain wallet it was all in imported addresses, so I havent ever tried to claim BCH using the recovery phrase. Im not sure how that process works and which wallets etc would have been used at the time in that process.

I have since moved my BTC from the imported addresses into my main blockchain wallet address, so in my case the process for claiming BCG is going to be different to how I claimed BCH: I'll have to use the recovery phrase rather than the exact private key associated with each imported address.

I assume the process will be as I posted above. Using a wallet other than blockchain, that supports BTG and supports importing addresses via a recovery phrase.

As far as I know blockchain.info wont be supporting BTG straight away, and if they do provide support its likely to be weeks / months after the fork, like for BCH.

But yeah, I think we can use the recovery phrase to claim BTG with another wallet. Hope Im right about that.

This a very educative information. I want to know what you mean by desktop wallet. Is it the normal blockchain.info wallet that we all know or is it another type of wallet?
It means NOT keeping your coins in something like blockchain.info wallet, it is an online wallet.
What is meant by desktop wallets are wallets like Electrum, and Bitcoin Armory, the ones that you have complete control over our money on, and where you have control of your private keys.
Actually Im not sure this is true. I *think* (but Im not certain) that blockchain.info users will be able claim BTG after the fork, but I really want to get some clarity on this.

I had BTC stored in a blockchain.info wallet during the BCH fork and I was able to claim all the BCH I was entitled to. At that time I actually had my BTC stored in what blockchain.info refers to as 'imported addresses' and I was able to use Coinomi to get that BCH. I used Coinomi to get about half of the BCH I had. Then, just a few days ago blockchain.info released their own support for BCH making it possible for me to claim the rest of my BCH within my blockchain.info wallet, without having to use Coinomi. I am hoping that blockchain wallet users will also be able to claim BTG after the coming fork as well.

But I'm hoping others have more info on this? I will message blockchain support to ask and Ill post whatever response I get back.

Thanks for your generous answer but what happens I keep my bitcoin in web wallet let?s say blockchain.info where I am holding access for my private key. Can able to get bitcoin gold.even till now I dint claim bcc for the holding I had in blockchain.info on august fork.

In this case you do not have the private keys thus no access to the forked coins...

EDIT: You will need a paper wallet or @ PC or Hardware wallet in order to have access to the forked coins...

Blockchain.info wallet users do have access to their private keys. You dont get the private keys itself, rather you have a 'recovery phrase' that serves as your private key and allows you to import you blockchain wallet into any other desktop wallets if you wanted to.

From the blockchain.info blog:
As always, our wallets are non-custodial and you, our users, hold the private keys, meaning you always have full, exclusive access to your funds with your recovery phrase and can import them into another wallet of your choosing.

So blockchain.info wallet users do have access to our private keys (via the recovery phrase). I think you would claim your BTG like this:
-After the BTG fork you would transfer you BTC to another wallet for security.
-Then you would use the recovery phrase of the old wallet that held BTC during the fork to claim BTG in a wallet that supports BTG.
-You would be able to use any desktop or online wallet to claim the BTG that supported importing an address via a recovery phrase?

Please note that I'm not certain this is the case. I'm researching this now and would appreciate any input from others.

4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to get Bitcoin Cash from many wallet/software/services with Coinomi on: August 26, 2017, 12:42:22 AM
Coinomi seems to be having problems at the moment. I did a series of transfers a few days ago, transferring BCH from blockchain.info imported addresses to Coinomi, and from Coinomi to another wallet. It worked perfectly and quickly at that time.

Today I tried to claim the rest of the BCH using exactly the same method and immediately Coinomi started showing some really buggy behaviour:
After I scanned the private key QR code of an imported address with Coinomi, I got a white screen, then the Coinomi app went back to the 'balance' page, where it shows 0 balance.

Im checking Blockchair.com and I can see that the BCH balance in the address I was transferring from hasnt changed. The BCH are still there (at this stage... im keeping a close eye on that).

But Coinomi just seems to be not working.

The process Im using is as follows:

-login to Blockchain.info wallet > settings > addresses
-Under 'imported addresses' click on the more options at right > view private key.
-Scan the private key QR code with Coinomi.

Previously this worked flawlessly. The BCH would show up in Coinomi quickly and from there I could transfer it elsewhere.

Now Coinomi craps out when I scan a QR code of an imported address that I know has BCH funds in it.
If I scan an empty address, I get a message saying address contains 0 balance.. So that works as it should. It just seems to shit itself if it scans a wallet that has funds?

Interesting, exact same thing happened to me with an imported address with the white screen and transfer not going through. Checking on a bcc block explorer shows that the bcc is still at the (imported) address so at least it's not like they're stealing it. But you're saying that few days ago, you were able to successfully claim BCC from a b.info imported address?
Yes exactly, a few days ago it worked fine. I was able to claim BCC from several b.info imported addresses by scanning the private key QR code. At that time Coinomi reported the correct balance of of each address, and I was able to claim it and then send it on from Coinomi to another address. Now the same process doesn't work.

Blockchain.info has now announced they will support BCC, so I'm hoping they will provide a way to claim BCC from imported addresses (not just from b.info wallet addresses). I'm planning to leave my unclaimed BCC where it is and wait to see what options b.info provides. I actually messaged their support to ask if they would provide a way to claim BCC from imported addresses, but their response gave nothing away. They just told me that BCC support was in development and they had nothing else to announce publicly at this time.

I guess we just can wait unless you need it fast https://news.bitcoin.com/blockchain-info-to-support-bitcoin-cash/

I just read this! Could have just left the BCH where it was. The only reason I started messing around with Coinomi etc was because blockchain.info said they didnt plan to support BCH!  Roll Eyes

Edit
Actually. The blog post says:

"Users with balances of bitcoin in their Blockchain Wallet on August 1st will be able to access an equal balance, as of August 1st, of bitcoin cash."

It doesnt say if they will make it possible to claim BCH from imported addresses that held BTC on Aug 1st

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Obtaining BTC Cash (BCC) from BTC held in blockchain.info on: August 17, 2017, 03:10:22 AM
I have been trying to get my head around BTC Cash (BCC) and at this point I am a bit confused.

On the date of the fork (1st August 2017) I held a small amount of BTC in a blockchain.info wallet.

But the situation is complicated by the fact that some of the BTC was in the default wallet (by default its called 'My Bitcoin Wallet'), while about half of the BTC was held in 'imported addresses' (about 4 addresses in total).

I have since transferred all funds held in 'imported addresses' to the default wallet. This was done after the 1st August.

So for the purpose of obtaining BCC, Im not sure what I need to do.

Is it the case that, I can obtain BCC equivalent to BTC held in the blockchain default wallet using the 12 word pass phrase. While, to obtain BCC equivalent to BTC held in 'imported addresses' I will need to use the 'private key' for each of those addresses?

Thanks for any help understanding this...

Turns out the fees are pretty high with this card - 10% on top of every top up. So it cost me 550 EURO to buy a 500 EURO top up... Ouch!

I wont be using this card very much given that cost.

you bring some fees less and give how can we apply for this card

Um... you say what?

I attempted to use this card. I ran into a problem straight away, I was unable to activate the card at the trans-cash website. I received an error message saying I required a 12-digit activation code, however I was sent an 8-digit activation code.

Ive contacted the customer support at thebitcoincard.co.uk to explain the situation. They have asked me to email trans-cash by email, and if I still cant resolve it, the people at thebitcoincard.co.uk will issue me a new card.

I find the instructions for how to activate the card hard to follow.

I had to use Google Translate alot since everything at the trans-cash website is in French.

What kind of options do you plan to offer for selling bitcoins in the future?
16  Other / Beginners & Help / bitcoin > Payoneer (via Visa or Mastercard) on: August 23, 2012, 03:21:14 AM
Does anyone know a legit operator that offers this service?

I know fastcash4bitcoin.com can fund a Payoneer card via Bank Transfer (ACH) which would be great, but Payoneer limits this service to only its US card holders. Is there any websites like fastcash or bitinstant that can fund a Payoneer using Visa or Mastercard (this is the other funding option Payoneers allows)
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Obtaining a Canadian Credit Card and Billing Address on: August 15, 2012, 10:55:55 AM
Do you need a card and address, or would simply having a trusted party place your order and re-ship to you be what you are looking for?

Hey man. Actually there is nothing to reship. I need it to make use of a service, rather than make a purchase of an item and the service is only available to US and Canadian residents. I need to be able to top up the card so that a monthly amount can be drawn out by the people running the service.

Perhaps someone from Local Bitcoins would be willing to be your buying agent:

An agent might work but its a stretch... The agent would need to be able to provide me valid details for a credit card and billing address and keep that card funded so that it could be billed monthly... I guess in return I could pay them a monthly commission (on top of the value deducted from the card by the service provider)... Its a bit much to ask really.

I either need to open a Canadian bank account and get a Credit card with that(although that doesnt solve the billing address problem), or find some kind of virtual service like USunlocked....
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Obtaining a Canadian Credit Card and Billing Address on: August 15, 2012, 07:44:53 AM
Hi basically Im wondering if anybody knows of a service similar to usunlocked.com but for Canada.

USunlocked allows people outside the US to get a virtual prepaid credit card and billing address which they can then use to shop online at a range of US retailers that dont accept international credit cards.

Anyone know of a service like this for Canada?

I haven't been able to find anything.
