1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Need a teacher on add GPU Voltage to BIOS, I will pay the teacher :) on: May 25, 2017, 03:51:53 AM
So I noticed on 3 different cards that I tried to add the voltage offset to, that the FF 00 01 07 0C does not show up after doing (in HxD) Edit > Select Block and putting in the beginning offset from the bios.text (atombiosreader file) and the length.  Am I correct in the statement that these cards will not take a voltage offset at all or am I missing some more knowledge to force this in?

You need to check what the voltage controller is, and then add in a corresponding voltage offset then change the table offsets and whatnot to make sure the bios is still valid
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Pcie 1 to 3 Port 1X Switch Multiplier HUB Riser. Which motherboard works. on: February 21, 2017, 05:46:28 PM
People don't want to reveal the secret to getting more than 7 gpus working. It gives them an edge that they don't want to share.  I remember reading that the motherboard's bios needs to be modded for 8+ to work.

For what it's worth,  I had a go at 8 and 9 gpus on an MSI Z87.  Board would boot woth 8 but only detect 7. With 9, the board just wouldn't boot.

To get 9+ you'll need to use QPI links if you don't want to have to mod a bios(or if you have to not much at all) Smiley
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gateless Gate: zawawa's open-source ZEC/ETH/XMR/PASC miner (453 sol/s on 7990) on: February 07, 2017, 08:19:55 PM
Does anyone here have the 'Eco Bios' for R9 Fury and Rx 480 cards? I don't like using wattman or software to get power draw down and would prefer to flash bios for lowest possible power consumption at stock clocks or close to.
I just use the miner to set voltage and clocks, really easy, and flexible, since different algorithms have different optimal clocks and undervolts.  The Eco bios isn't undervolted, it is just lower clocks (lower volts, but still stock).  You can easily undevolt another 50-100mv+ and save tons of power. I use CM, but SGM/GG supports all that stuff right?

I am mostly looking to undervolt to run Fury/480 at low power to squeeze 6 cards into a 1300w PSU so I'd have to load it on Bios level no?

Not sure about getting to work on Linux, but you can undervolt 6 470s, stock 1260 clock, and run ~930W at wall Zec mining (CM 11.1, Platinum PSU, ~1020mv), 480s would be ~1000 or so at wall.  Underclocking allows substantial undervolting, but affects Zec speed, I dual mine Eth/Dcr right now so not as much of an issue.

If you can't change volts in Linux on 480s, in Windows, use atiwinflash to pull bios, edit voltages with polarisbioseditor, the reflash. Dunno about Linux flashing/editing tools.  What cards do you have?  If there is dual bios, there is usually a "silent" bios.

Running 6x480s overclocked, 1050w at wall in most of my rigs, overclocking is fun! Smiley
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell / Pascal kernels. on: January 29, 2017, 06:56:04 AM
I modified the pascal cuda miner and optimized it, now it's doing 900 Mh/s on a 1070 consuming just 100W.
Is it good? Worth working on it, now that there are pools?

That'd be great if it consistently gets that. The other miners also have extreme issues with CPU utilization. Only worth it if you get it working with pools. You can't solo mine anymore.

the hashrate is consistent and cpu usage is much lower.
the 970 does 500 Mh/s @100W.
the miner can't be easily adapted to pools, it's too basic.
Would you be willing to open source what you have now? I would love to help port it to pools if possible.

Will you be able to post pictures along with what you find when fixing the GPUs? It would be awesome to learn, if all goes well I'll try to find some dead cards for you to fix  Wink

What does Cannot get Overdrive capabilities for adapter in logs mean?

Means your gpu is not stable, increase the voltage or lower your clocks, or check for other errors
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gateless Gate: zawawa's open-source cross-platform OpenCL Zcash miner on: January 05, 2017, 09:56:30 AM
Well guess I did something wrong, with the latest amdgpu-pro drivers I built with make, then ran gatelessgate.py, getting 10/sec on each 480, anyone know where I messed up?  Cry Thanks!
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gateless Gate: zawawa's open-source cross-platform OpenCL Zcash miner on: January 04, 2017, 11:05:26 PM
What is the current speed based per cards?
If someone is using gg miner, please provide some feedback.

H/s is decreasing.......getting really tough to mine....plus price isn't helping either

I've got 1,560 8-cores on it atm.

That's a lot of cores  Smiley

Profitable at current prices?

Insanely, for me. And this time, I'm not even using a special miner. Well, I bumped it ~5%, but that's about it. The trick is cheap compute, this time.

Cool Smiley

Do you see future in this tech or just mining for profit?

Just mining for profit, here.

Unsure if you still reply to these, but are they spot instances that you are(were using)? Pretty sure they would help with profits
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Rx470 win10 , Reward for the solution on: December 31, 2016, 06:24:58 AM
the problem you are having is with the 16.12 catalyst.  You cannot use it with modded bios unless you make some other changes.  Also uninstalling it does no good either.  The fastest and easiest way to get rid of the problem is to do a fresh install and stay away from 16.12 unless you are well versed in drivers and bios modding.  Once you install 16.12 it will behave like 16.12 even if DDU is used.  You can do some other mods but for mining it would just be easier to use 16.11 or earlier
Could've also been a bad bios that was flashed, or a psu dropping voltage if its not booting. Probably b est bet is to try to use old drivers instead of worrying about new drivers right now, would be better to use the stock bioses and make sure everything works, then flash if needed then
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Rx470 win10 , Reward for the solution on: December 30, 2016, 06:04:12 AM
With the newer driver you can patch it to work with custom bioses

The steps are here(from http://www.overclock.net/t/1604567/polaris-bios-editing-rx480-rx470-rx460/1050#post_25699216):

Quote
Download the modified kernel driver here: https://mega.nz/#!AtUWDCaZ!zjfCIH9IZBnCGkbgs-EyqaAnejQY11w-r_bTYKggQ30
Download the Pixel Clock Patcher here: https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-AMD-ATI-Pixel-Clock-Patcher (needed for the windows driver signature workaround)

1) Navigate to the amd driver extraction directory, usually "C:\AMD" then go into" Win10-64Bit-Radeon-Software-Crimson-ReLive-16.12.1-Dec7\Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF\B309333"
2) Extract the modified kernel driver in the "\B309333" directory overwriting the file
3) Uninstall current amd drivers normally and DO NOT REBOOT when asked
4) Reboot with advanced options like so:
5) Press and hold the Shift key on your keyboard and click the Restart button.
6) Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings and click the Restart button.
7) When your computer restarts you’ll see a list of options, press F7 on your keyboard to select Disable driver signature enforcement.
This is needed only ONE TIME to successfully install the modified kernel, in the next reboot the driver signature enforcement will return to normal.
Cool Install the driver normally with setup.exe in C:\AMD\Win10-64Bit-Radeon-Software-Crimson-ReLive-16.12.1-Dec7
DO NOT REBOOT WHEN ASKED
9) When the installation is finished run the atikmdag-patcher.exe (this will take care of driver signature for windows so we no loger need to disabled the enforcement with F7)
10) Press yes to patch the file
11) When finishes reboot the pc and enjoy your modified bios

Hope this helps you!

13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gateless Gate: zawawa's open-source cross-platform OpenCL Zcash miner on: December 29, 2016, 09:57:23 PM
nice work.  it hasnt took you long to catch up with Claymore. (need a thumbs up emoji)

How far do you think you can think you can push the RX cards?  Do you have a dev fee included in your miner or are you just going on donations?

I haven't done exact calculations yet, but I should be able to get 250-300 sol/s with RX 480 and a GCN assembler. I wouldn't implement a dev fee as (1) I think cryptomining should be more egalitarian and equalizing in terms of the distribution of wealth and power, in line with the original intent of Satoshi Nakamoto, and (2) I personally think it is really lame.

If you get that much speed I'll donate the speed increase for a few months, thanks for making this open source!
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitworks 8 GPU 4U rack mount mining rig on: December 23, 2016, 07:08:09 PM

You cant off the shelf. Im the one that designed this system with Padrino. My personal prototype systems are running 10 GPUs of a Gigabyte board. It requires very low level changes to how the board BIOS operates.

How have you started 10 GPUs? My personal record is 8 at the moment. And I want to start 12. What OS?

You can run 32 cards from one Motherboard using Linux Zcash miner under Ubuntu and a combination or risers and PCIE-X3 splitters. Not sure why you would want to, but you can.

Even with pcie switches how are you compiling the kernel for 8+ gpus? Much less bypassing current mobo restrictions to get over 16 gpus?
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ocassionally GPU rig won't run at the full speed - why? on: December 23, 2016, 07:05:47 PM
The cards might be decreasing their clock rate, if worst comes to worst try plugging on a dummy monitor into the cards that run slow
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU Rig PORN on: December 23, 2016, 08:46:26 AM
Correct me if i am wrong as I have no idea of diskless system.

Dont we have to have at least 64gb of RAM of we need to do this? Does the entire system store in the RAM? If so then 20gb for OS and another 16gb for Miner Ram and at least 8gb for System.
If you mean on the server side:

You could put all of ths os into a ramdisk, but all that would do is make it read faster and be able to be sent over the network faster, but would still be limited to the networked speeds

if on the client side: yeah you'd probably need a fair bit of ram to be able to hold everything, or some sort of scratch disk. Good point there, though I am not sure you would need 64gb of ram that seems a bit much
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum mining still profitable? on: December 20, 2016, 06:04:20 AM
If the price keeps on dipping it will be really difficult to get some profit out of it.Hope the price would come back to normal once the price of bitcoin settles. For all the folks who have free electricity it is their time to have some fun mining coins ,if not for the electricity charges everyone would be mining by now . Grin

The difficulty drop from you guys backing out lets me get more coins per hash though!

Gridcoin was a thing that was kind of like this, but afaik it died out after a while, not enough features for the coin as a currency.

Let me know if you need anyone with windows boxes to test, have a few 480s and 7970s and windows 7/10 around, and would be glad to help with testing. Thanks for doing this open source!
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The World’s 1st GPU Integrated Miner Is Lauching PRE-SALE! on: December 17, 2016, 11:19:55 PM

looks like 8GB 480s x 8 ... if this is true than I think this system is quite a powerful machine for mining and also general GPU projects.

[/quote]

To be fair it will most likely be pretty good provided the chips last for a while, although I would be interested in learning where the mxm cards were sourced from, if I could learn about that I might honestly be tempted to look into the system as a purchase
