2  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Im Kinda Slow. on: November 26, 2012, 12:11:54 AM
Would I effectively cover up my trace if I used a service like coinbase to transfer funds from my bank to the wallet of bitcoins on coinbase, then to an anonymous wallet like blockchain, and then from there to wherever i want, anonymously?

Everything involving your bank in traceable.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin model used for political & other elections on: November 07, 2012, 11:15:42 PM
It's hard to preserve anonymity and ensure at the same time that every participant only votes once.

This is the main issue, the people running the voting network would know who you vote for.

5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: bitcoin-qt causing wireless problems on: October 18, 2012, 07:49:19 AM
Does you're ISP throttle P2P? If they do then bitcoin-qt downloading the bloackchain for the first time will look like you are downloading a large torrent file causing them to throttle the speed.

I've seen ISP's that throttle P2P down to 0.5 kpb/s before causing the program to time out.

7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Problems using Bitcoin-QT on LiveCD on: October 07, 2012, 02:59:50 PM
Kubuntu is the only Ubuntu flavor (I hate them for calling different versions flavors) that comes with QT installed by default.

Any Linux distro that uses KDE or Razor-QT will have QT installed by default, there is no reason for others to as they use a toolkit called GTK.

So, that means that to use the LiveCD approach you either have to use the non-GUI version or connect to the internet at least once to download stuff. Is there a big security issue with the latter option?

Kubuntu: http://www.kubuntu.org/

That LiveCD should work with QT out of the box.
8  Economy / Scam Accusations / iWantFreeBitcoins.com is a scam on: October 07, 2012, 12:56:31 PM
I notice people keep visiting this site which does not payout, the site creator Rjau has not been online in months and is ignoring all emails sent through his website, the sad thing is looking at the 'Top Earners' section of his site it appears that different people fall for this site every day.

If Rjau gets a scammer tag and his thread locked it would stop people wasting their time (and money if they do paid offers) on that website.

Here is the original thread that the site creator posted:

10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: should we make a bitcointalk TOR hidden service? on: October 07, 2012, 11:51:37 AM
I think it's a good idea. This forum is a target too easy for whomever may decide to do a crackdown on coiners (which I expect soon or later).
Regarding noobs, if they learned to open a browser, they can even learn to launch Tor Browser. It is time they do.
A major drawback is that the .onion network is slow as hell, and there is little hope that it can improve much.

If more people ran exit nodes or even internal relays Tor would be a hell of a lot faster, but it's the same as Bit torrent, people just take and leech off the community and never give anything back.
11  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BTC4Free Update (5th September) on: October 07, 2012, 10:05:55 AM
I can confirm that this site works, it's a good idea, just frustrating and slow as hell as most of the surveys don't pay out until you contact support with a screenshot as proof you completed the survey.

Do you think you can add Crowdflower and viral videos to the website to make it a real competitor to SwagBucks?
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pay Privately to Surf Privately - new blog post! on: October 07, 2012, 08:43:06 AM
I have two question, first http://privateinternetaccess.com/ is hosted in the US, which means if they get a subpoena they have two choices, either give the US authorities what they want, or go to jail and have there assets and servers forcibly ceased. You honestly think they are loyal enough to their customers to go to jail?

Second question is how is it anonymous? If they don't provide solid proof that they purge all server logs and that the hosting companies they use also purge all server logs then they are not anonymous and the OP is spreading misinformation by recommending this company.
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: should we make a bitcointalk TOR hidden service? on: October 07, 2012, 08:34:40 AM
Doesnt silk road have a forum ?

There are hundreds, probably thousands if you count the foreign language ones like the Chinese 'dissidents' of forums that have a .onion address.

Publishing through TOR might not be enough to prevent hardcore investigation succeeding but it might be enough to stop you getting put on "a list". Problem is, using TOR probably gets you put on "a list" anyway.

Some kind of anonymous gateway might be fairly cool but the problem is anonymity is a double edged sword. Just ask (name escapes me), an old anonymous email service that got shutdown because of abuse (I want to say anonnet.fi but that's incorrect)

Tormail, they are back now the Russian host they use to use closed down not Tormail itself.

Ubuntu is way too popular for the ISO to become corrupted and no one notices. At what stage does the error message appear, while you're burning the disc or when you run it? Are you using decent blank CD's? Are you using 32 or 63 bit?

When you run Ubuntu click the icon that says 'Software Centre' and search for whatever you want to install, though  you should get a basic grasp of how computers work before you try projects like this, it always ends in 'Linux sucks because 'insert easy to solve using Google problem here', im not having a go at you just after spending years on Linux forums it amazes me how people don't know search engines exist, thousands of them.

18  Economy / Marketplace / Re: If freedns.afraid.org accepted Bitcoin on: October 01, 2012, 08:58:01 AM
Does this mean you work for them and are really  considering accepting Bitcoins as a payment method? If they did accept Bitcoins I would switch to the premium service straight away.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is the kind of hierarchy some want for the The Bitcoin Network. on: September 30, 2012, 11:03:49 PM
As long as Bitcoin stays open source and voluntary, I don't see a problem of anybody funding its development even if it's a CIA or JPMorgan. What we should fight for is to have an open market for alternative currencies.
Cryptocurrency is best served as a natural monopoly. Bitcoin will likely be the only popular cryptocurrency. It's not a like it or leave it type of thing. We do no not need it controlled by the government or the largest bank.

I didn't know the worlds largest bank was involved in this, I tried searching but didn't find anything.

Do you have proof that Deutsche Bank AG is trying to control Bitcoin? If you don't this is just another paranoid lie from you.

You can rent GPU clusters from Amazon.
