If I am causing you inconvenience, or you are simply unwilling to continue allowing so many bets while the game is +EV, just tell me, and I will stop.

With a GPU, you write instructions in software and the hardware reads and follows the instructions. With an ASIC, the instructions are built into the hardware, so the ASIC skips the reading and simply does the computations. This allows it to be much faster.

Actually, I bet that there is more money lost to fees on the dollar side than on the Bitcoin side. If you were instead arbitraging two digital currencies, it would probably be easier to turn a profit.

At 33 Mhps, you'll make about $4 per month at current difficulty and market price. Ultimately, it comes down to whether or not you personally are paying your electric bill. In addition, the work of maintaining the mining software may not be worth $4 a month to you. That depends on how much time you spend an how much you value your time. You might even find it fun, and so it would be worth doing for free.

OK, but for real, if somebody is selling, I'm willing to offer as much as 300 satoshis.

Pirate is probably trying to convert a large portion of his holdings into dollars and transferring them out of the system. He might manipulate the market some more, but that would be purely for his own profit. Remember, he has no incentive to admit that he was running a Ponzi scheme; it could only come back to bite him if he somehow ended up being prosecuted. Rather than sending the Bitcoin community into a frenzy, it is left to simmer slowly, and efforts to track him down will never become terribly well organized. (Not that they would succeed, anyway.)
