Art, I just got my backplane powered up with one of these and it's REALLY loud. About as loud as a blender or maybe a vacuum cleaner. Is that normal? If so are there any quieter alternatives? Thanks. |

If you think the hub runs cooler with a smaller fuse you are just imagining it. The only effect of using a fuse smaller than called for by the device's specs would be the fuse blowing unnecessarily. Also, a fuse doesn't protect from power spikes. It takes a good surge protector for that. I think what he meant was, the fuse itself was getting hot. In that case my guess is a batch of defective or mis-labeled fuses since all things being equal a lower rated fuse should have higher resistance and would be the one to run hotter since, after all, the way they work is under excessive current they get hot enough to melt and a lower rated fuse would melt at a lower current (amps). |

The 49-port hubs I received today unfortunately didn't have fuses in them. Though the fuses are on the way in a separate shipment, I can't wait for a couple of days to be able to used them. Upon inspection, it looks like they take automotive blade-type fuses. Is it the Mini Blade fuse? What's the required fuse amp rating for these hubs? I wanna head down to the local auto parts store and get them ASAP.
40 amp Regular in car fuses. Philipma made an observation that the 40 amp fuse it comes with is way too much for the hub, if each miner uses .5 amp and there's 49 ports, max it should draw is 24.5 amps. I got a 30 amp in mine and definitely runs cooler than the 40 amp it came with. The 40 was wicked hot all the time. Going to try a 25 amp and see if that's the sweet spot. Is it possible to turn off the security warning that pops up every time I start the client either from the desktop or the command line that warns that the application has requested permission to create a desktop launcher. There is a check box to always allow but it's greyed out. Any ideas as this is pretty annoying? Otherwise everything is working great.

Cpu mining would be fine to make sure everything's running fine before your asics arrive - as long as you don't mind waiting a few days to get a single share.
Thanks for the input. No I wouldn't expect to get any bitcoin doing it. |

I have two jalapenos on pre-order and was wondering if it would be a waste of time to go ahead and try to get set up using cpu mining just to have the set up partly done when the jalapenos get here (if they ever do, that is)? For one thing, I wouldn't want to do anything that would negatively impact the pool. I realize I probably wouldn't get ANY bitcoin from it. Please excuse me if this has already been asked.

OP, your English is perfectly understandable to me. However that may be because I work with a lot of people from other countries who speak English as a second language and no longer even notice any odd phrasing. I have a huge amount of respect for anyone who has learned another language as I spent huge amounts of time studying Spanish and made very little progress.

I can't believe that it took me so long to become aware of bitcoin but now I'm really excited about it.
