Yes! let us have the multipool up and running so that people think twice about selling cheap after receiving the second stake. Let them sell cheap, we wouldnt need them at later stages keep voting on mintpal,guys. |

First there was a huge increase in users regeristing with My.Gox which started to cause the system to lag, then there was a huge sell order in the range of 5000 bitcoins which caused the price to go down as they were sold and created latency as it filled current buy orders. That initial large drop greatly affected the price causing nervous traders to sell because of this and the current price at the time. The continuous sell from nervous sellers, selling lower and lower to get out from under there bitcoinx crashed the market. Then Mt.Gox shut down trading and has been repeatedly hit with DDoS attacks causing further doubt in the trading system most base bitcoin prices on.

For example on Casascius Coins, the private key is on a piece of paper that faces into the coin. The hologram simply indicates that the paper hasn't been accessed.
You won't put private keys on the hologram, you would use them to cover a private key.
As it turns out, I actually do own a laser engraving machine. But I am not lasering the holograms, the factory is. I am pretty sure they laser the foil layer before it gets attached to the plastic layer of the sticker. The foil presumably requires a much higher temperature to vaporize that the plastic would never withstand. Where they mark at the factory, you see a complete absence of foil with no side effects to the plastic.
I have experimented with my machine... if I laser the stickers, I melt the plastic and create a sort of glittery effect as the plastic and the foil sort of melt together. There is no feasible way for me to have any effect on the foil without having a much greater effect on the plastic.
My laser equipment is particularly handy for cutting pages of private keys into little circles that precisely fit the hollowed out portion of the coin that holds them. But a good oversize hole punch would do the same thing (and worked for me before I got the laser machine). I suppose with a hole punch, you play a guessing game on getting a perfect fit, where with the laser, I can cut any size I want. (That is why, for example, I now put 30 characters in my coins instead of 22 - more precision means more usable printing room.)
You are correct that they laser the foil before adding other layers. I've actually spoken to a few companies about producing custom holograms for Bitcoin bills. They requested a similar figure for my own custom design. My original idea was to have the private key as a QR code on each hologram, but no one had the ability to do custom holograms for each one without paying an insane amount for the order due to each needing a custom foil created. The idea from them was suggested to have QR codes printed on each hologram though. |

Can you give a little more explanation of how it is being implemented? Are you referring to the user who is creating a way for users to get paid for mining in minecraft?

Ok, it's a scheme and a scam...
it's a scheme if they used the pre-order's money to profit from it while investing in the required machinery to produce something they are yet to have working. It's a scam because they have failed to deliver in the times they specified making the product less valuable every day (difficulty increasing, halving, etc)
Yes, by the time they release a single jalapeño, the $150 jalapeño's ROI will be 6 months or more like I read somewhere here...
that is IF they ever deliver one...

And I'm amazed of the imagination that some people have. Thinking some big rich guy is behind all this to secure the network releasing ASICS or crazy theories like that...
This is not the humane society, this is a business, like the stock market, I know there are anarchists out there, but I doubt there's one with the amount of money required to support such theory.
I'm a dreamer and I do not believe ASICs are a scam. But the releasing of them to secure the network doesn't make a great lot of sense. It's been brought up, why would they sell these processors so cheap given the current MH/$ of FPGAs. Given what we pay for an FPGA if it was a direct conversion we'd be paying $3,500 per Jalapeño. It's hard to say how or why. |

Maybe they considered it in another direction. Sell thousands of devices to greatly increase difficulty hence making all miners have to purchase ASICs to do any worthwhile mining and making the demand skyrocket. Be the first and only supplier and crush your competition. Then raise prices and profit.

I've at this point considered the same, mining with just one ASIC, like the jalapeño might not be profitable anymore. It might be like trying to mine now with just a basic quad core cpu or a low end nvidia card... from what I've seen a lot of people plan on buying the higher end devices.

You do have to give some credit to Apple though, without them it would have likely taken longer before we would have the control we do now over our phones. Remember when everything you wanted to install only came from your carrier's store and it cost $5 for every crap java game they let you install?
