I miss PPS, im making half of what I was before it got dropped :/
Wait long enough and you'll be making twice as much.  Maybe. Smiley

I'm also making half as much as I was, and I've been on PPLNS since the beginning, such is the joy of variance.

I hope so, its only a hobby but it was nice when i was making enough to buy a few more miners a month.

I have been trying to read through the last 2 or 3 pages but am lost at the moment, and will spend more time reading.  But just have a quick question, I have a small set up at the moment, and will still be small once the new gear gets here.  Would PPS or PPLNS be more rewarding for me?  I have been switching back and forth and really have no idea(giving about 24hrs between swaps).  Thanks in advance.

Thanks Brandon, I have been looking at scrypt mining also, and am just using this as an excuse to spend more time in my office with my computers and toys.  I don't really expect to make any real money from this or at least turn a measurable profit.  I do have an abundance of PSU's laying around in the 750-1200watt range.

I will look more into the Asicminer Cube, and the S1.

The only other ones I have looked at have been the Blockerupter blades. But those still seem a bit high per Ghash.

I do appreciate all of that info, I have basically just left my Jalapeno running on another pool for a pretty long time and am just now getting the time to start reading and planning for a bigger mining rig.  It is some time off but I would like to hit 500-700 Ghash within the next month or so.

3 Antminers would currently be the only way to go if you're hoping to get above 500GHs without breaking the bank.  I don't think you could even buy secondhand gear for less money.

ASICMiner may soon have some exciting new miners.  But this is a game where waiting is deadly to your income.  If I was just getting into mining now I might just start with the first wave of Gridseed Scrypt ASIC miners and skip Bitcoin mining altogether.

I've been mining since sep 2011, just with a few tours overseas, I left my GPU's and a BFL block running idle for most of my mining time.  I do agree that to someone just starting, scrypt would be the way to go, but for me I don't honestly care about turning a profit on this, its purely a hobby for me.  I am now getting into migrating to new hardware, and yes I am really out of touch on it all.

The only thing I do when I sell coins is put it back into this.  Long story short, I just dumped a large portion of coins I have made since I started(first time ever selling) and have  $7868 to spend on hardware and would like to know which way to go.  It looks like the Antminer S1 is the best choice right now unless there is another secret powerhouse out there?

I think antminers are the best bang for your buck at the moment.

Like anything else, though, your bang will decrease as time goes by with increasing difficulty.

M

Thank you guys, I just ordered 3 of them and am hoping for some fun of setting them up atleast, I also ordered 20 U1's just incase the set up of the S1's goes quicker then I want.

Is it me or have 12hr+ blocks been really common lately?

I am kinda wondering what the block length will be in about 8hrs when difficulty jumps to 3,800,299,673?

May end up jumping ship if slushes pool can't get the hash rate up to complete blocks quickly.

It just isn't justifiable to stay on a pool that solves 2-3 blocks in 24hrs.

BTC Guild has cleared 11 blocks in the last 7.5 hours, Much better over there. Slush has turned into a joke.

I know I made the mistake and got a Jalapeno from Amazon for about $150, haven't bought directly from them.

I hope this is a good place to ask this question, but I am just doing this as a hobby, and have just got some ASIC's set up, one BFL Jalepeno, and 2 Antminer U1's, I know its fairly small at the moment, but would like to hear what you guys thing would be good hardware to start picking up.

Right now I am thinking more Antminer's as the BFL's seem over priced for the rate it pulls.  But just started reading about the Gridspeed infinity USB but not sure I know how those are set up/powered.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is the set up im looking to grab(http://hashra.com/gridseed-3-mh-s-scrypt-sha-miner-including-psu-accessories/), and think it will be fun to learn and set up, is it a good idea? or is there a better value out there? can they bought by themselves?  Sorry for all the questions.

Just wanted to drop in and say HI, this is my first 24 hours in the pool, and am really happy I finally bailed on Slush, I started there back in 2011 and its been a horrible place to be the last year.

I am only a hobby miner, but still a nice pool that has let me earn twice what I did at Slush's pool in 1/3rd the time.

Heres to hopefully many profitable times to come.

Well this is a good bye, I have jumped ship completely all my miners have been transitioned to BTC Guild.  I do not know why I clung on to Slush for so long, it was nothing but a waste of my time and hardware for the last year.  At the new pool my gear has earned more in the last 48 hours then it has on Slush's pull in the last week I was here.   I don't see it getting bad there either, The longest block so far has only been about 2 hours.

I am not sure why so many of you die hard Slush fan's can not see the writing on the wall, it is clear as day.  Your pool leader does not care about you anymore, I was stuck here since I started mining in 2011 but have finally realized what a joke he is.
12  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [850 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: February 24, 2014, 03:54:39 AM
As far as I know there there was no network drop and nothing went down from what I can tell.

I have two separate connections coming that are bridged and then connected to the switch my miners connect to.  Even if i lost one incoming line the other one would have still carried the load.  I have been looking as far back as I can and didn't see anything off, no loss of connection no miners dropping, just seems like I got the shaft.

I did submit a ticket, but I do that for every problem and never hear anything  back.  There is always a slight variance to the number of shares my miner pulls compared to the pool since they can not seem to find a var diff they like they are always bouncing around, I just go with it since this is more of a hobby for me then anything, but it is just discouraging when I get hit with a problem like this.

crashoveride54902 - What pool did you move to?  I am considering jumping ship, its just a tough choice since I have been here since 2011, and it has never given me this much trouble as it has in the past month.
13  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [850 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: February 23, 2014, 11:08:33 PM
The pool is now back to 864813 Ghash/s

All the Hoppers Skippers and Jumpers are coming back now the luck figures have returned to "normal"
While that would bring about a small reduction in dburdett84's reward, it would not explain the figure he sees.

It might be useful to learn what the preceding and following rounds look like: what the ratio of his shares to the total are normally compared to this one.  A single line in isolation doesn't give us much to go on.

Here is more then just the one horribly wrong reward, again can anyone explain this to me?  is Slush just fucking with us or is his pool really turning to shit I have only ever mined with since like sept 2011 but, if i can digress back to Kindergarten for a bit "I am gonna take all my toys and go home".

Just looking for an idea of what the crap happened?

Someone please explain to me how this works?
Check Here

still over 2 million shares and i get a tiny tiny fraction of my normal payout, my shares have not dropped my hashrate has not dropped.  this is a fucking joke, and fucking funny shit with the LMGTFY link..  If it cant be explained then the one place I have trusted since i started mining almost 3 years ago has turned to a fucking joke.

Ever since Slush withdrew from offering support in this thread I felt it wise to leave the pool.
A private trouble ticket system is no replacement for public, transparent and open community discussion of problems that may affect many people.
Previously I left BTCMine when the operator went AWOL from the pool thread.

Personally I benchmark any pool on the support its operator offers through this forum.
Worth thinking about guys and gals.

Support via this thread is not scalable .. A good trouble ticket system is scalable... I'm not for or against how slush chooses to run HIS pool ... I understand that many people think as this as a community pool and honestly I think it is a community pool but at the end of the day, slush is head chief.. I guess what I'm saying is give the trouble ticket system a chance, the largest most successful organizations are built on the finest ticketing systems... Let's give it a little time ..

I have been trying to wait this out, to try the ticket system, but have never received a reply.  I am going to hold off on the move a few more days, only because I have been mining in this pool since 2011, have seen really rough times, but never been hit with problems like this.
17  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [850 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: February 19, 2014, 03:12:08 AM
I agree every pool can have issues, my problem lies where I have asked him why my reward had disappeared once the block was confirmed, for two blocks I received 1/100th of my normal reward with no change in my hashing rate.

If he can not even answer one of the 10 emails/support tickets then I will jump ship, as any payout is better then no payout which I am receiving now.
18  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [850 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: February 19, 2014, 02:09:03 AM
With the issues continuing to mount, and questions going ignored, no matter what form of submission is used, I am really thinking about pulling and moving on to another pool.  I have been with this pool since 9/8/2011, and I am struggling with this choice as this was the first and only place I have ever mined.  I built my entire setup right now just from seeing the payouts rise as I add more hardware. This is only a hobby for me, but for it to continually be worth it, it would be nice if Slush would step up to the plate and tell us what is going on.  I have tried to seek help from him in every method I can think of.

From rewards showing up in stats and then not being counted towards my confirmed or unconfirmed, to rewards showing in unconfirmed and then disappearing once they are confirmed, to a few of my rewards not only showing up as an estimated 1/100th of the normal but they were paid out at that rate as well.

If anyone else has any idea of what is going on, if it will get resolved and potential time frame I would greatly appreciate it.

**Should I take my 2Thash/s and move on?**

unless you get free electricity.

It's never free, the planet pays...

Come on lady luck!

I run off of pure SOLAR(no damage to the enviroment) and even generate enough that the power company pays me for what I kick back into their system.
20  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [850 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: February 16, 2014, 05:05:34 PM
I am hoping there is something wrong with the server at this point, I have never complained and been mining solely with this pool for years.  But from the last block to this block my estimated payout has been reduced 1/100th of the normal I get.  If this is true and not just a display error I will be walking away for good.   I have bit my tongue and stayed quite during all the other luck issue we have had, but staying at the same Hash rate to get 1/100th of the normal payout is just not going to happen.

Anyone else having this issue?
