This sounds to me like it would work better as something like StackExchange with DevCoin "tipping" for upvoted answers.

Honestly I don't see devtome's value.  There are too many established alternatives:  Wikipedia, various other wikis, blogsites and the like.  I don't see how devtome fills a niche.  Wouldn't it be better to try to convince the current infrastructure to receive devcoin donatoins than try to compete?

[DVC] DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated by Aegis
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Devcoin Moderated on: June 13, 2013, 07:12:11 PM
It's nice to see devcoins getting some attention for the past couple of months.  I've read a majority of the other thread, but there's a lot to wade through.  I don't know if it's been suggested, but I'd like to see a bounty for a Devcoin based freelance job site along the lines of http://www.reddit.com/r/Jobs4bitcoins.  Also, has anyone thought of recruiting donatees.  For instance the Awesome window manager and F-Droid FOSS app market already accept bitcoin donations and i think they should be eligible for devcoin shares as well.  Likely other free software projects would be interested in accepting devcoin donations too.  While the immediate effects would be dilution of the share pool and probably dumping for bitcoins, in the long term it would raise devcoin awareness, and bitcoin as well if non bitcoin users were recruited for devcoin share donations.
6  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: WeExchange on: June 05, 2013, 05:01:56 AM
Wow, all of this isn't exactly inspiring confidence in me using this service to be honest... Anybody got any good stories of using weexchange.co? I still haven't managed to register with it because every time I get the verification email, it says 'the code you provided s invalid' and doesn't verify my account. Why does bitfunder persist with such a poor standard of service provider?
I think I had this problem too when tried to use the the first time.  After a month or so I tried again and it worked but the website looked kind of janky so I never used the service.  Recently I decided to buy asicminer shares on bitfunder and thought it would be a good opportunity to try using more ripple.  Anyway it's been another week with NO RESPONSE to my open ticket.  Everyone should be careful using weexchange as there seems to be no one home.  And you should probably AVOID SENDING FUNDS THROUGH RIPPLE at the moment.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XRP] Ripple Starter Loans on: June 03, 2013, 07:55:56 AM
I am willing to give out starter loans of XRP so people can start using the system. Once you get the XRP you can access the trust and trade functions, so you can deposit BTC to your account using a gateway and purchase XRP, which you would send back to me.

I believe people need 350 XRP to start, correct me if I am wrong?

If anybody wants to give me tips my Ripple address is listed below. If you want to add to the XRP starter loan fund, that is where you could send XRP as well.

Hi.  I got a little problem and need your help.  I got 101 XRP in my ripple account and 3.6 BTC in Bitstamp.

Question:  How do I buy XRP with all of my BTC and store them in my ripple account?

Thanks.

I don't know if you have enough XRP for reserve, but you need to trust bitstamp for 3.6 BTC as this is the amount of bitstamp BTC IOUs that you need to import.

Add Bitstamp (their ripple deposit address) to contacts.  Then...

Advanced  >> Trust  >> "+" button.  And add info (Bitstamp, 3.6 BTC)

Then in Bitstamp (if you had enough XRP reserve to trust bitstamp) ...

Withdrawal  >> Ripple >> fill out form with your ripple address and amount and send.

Back in ripple...

Advanced  >> Trade  >> Select BTC/XRP from the box, then  "change issuer"  for BTC to bitstamp and trade

Also, when you add bitstamp to contacts in ripple, the bitstamp deposit address will look like rvYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx?dt=5xxxx.   The  "?dt="  signifies a destination tag (an internal routing number for bitstamp).    rvYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx goes in the address box and the stuff after "?dt=" (5xxxx) goes in the destination tag box.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 4,000 BTE bounty for patching Bytecoin to merged mine on: June 03, 2013, 05:57:36 AM
Yeah I'm disgusted by devcoin, it's embarrassing having the word developer in it
 Great work markm
I agree, and think that this should be eligible for a devcoin bounty as bitcoin/altcoin client development should one of devcoin's primary goals at the moment.  Devcoin should always be based against the most current (or better) bitcoin client codebase and working on it's own new features.  One thing that i'd like to see is a multi-wallet, with modular alternative blockchain plugins.  I don't understand why there aren't more (specific) bounties posted for cryptocoin development.  For instance, all of the BIPs should have bounties assigned.  Eligibilty would be integration in either the devcoin or mainline bitcoin client.  I think Gavin should be eligible for devcoin bounties for all the hard work he does.  Whether he's interested in claiming them should be up to him.

Thanks for the hard work markm.  I'd love to be able to claim the devcoins i dumped on a compressed key.  These altcoins really need the updated security and bugfixes too.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: dilemna with ripple - i just don't get it on: May 30, 2013, 11:52:18 PM
There isn't a fixed value for XRP because it will price itself at a rate high enough to support it's ability to handle ripples transaction capacity.  Its value is derived from the value of the other IOU's stored and traded within the ripple platform.  Outside of ripple it has much less value since it requires trust in the ripple system, which one would not likely be extending if they were not actively using ripple for its intended purpose.  Within the ripple system it's extremely versatile though.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: dilemna with ripple - i just don't get it on: May 30, 2013, 11:17:10 PM
I think it functions as a universal currency within the system.  All currencies (USD, EUR, BTC) within the ripple platform are IOU's, tokens that represent trust in an issuer.  To clear those trust lines and settle this debt you need to redeem those IOU's.  You need to cash them out and remove them from the ripple platform.  If you want to switch issuers you can trade them within ripple, or cash out and buy back in through another issuer.  XRP offers another avenue to clear those trust lines.  By using the platform you are trusting the ripple network, and ripples tokens (XRP) by default.  This allows XRP fo function as trustless within the ripple network, allowing you to "cash out" without leaving the platform.  It also provides more paths to exchange as any currency or commodity will likely be traded against XRP even if there isn't a direct exchange.  So you can still trade your BTC for pork belly futures even if there is no direct exchange rate because both will have a market with XRP.

Oh yeah, there's reserve too (basically just antispam).

Would like to test.
Question.  If the primary hatcher selects his validator, whats to stop him from selecting a friend and gaming the system in some way?

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Holy Grail! I wish I could kiss the author of Bitmessage on his face. on: May 28, 2013, 08:16:12 PM
I have a quarter of a bitcoin lost in a ripple/gateway transaction.  If I get it back I'm donating it to Open-Transactions.  I think ripple is great.  It's still a bit beta, but it works pretty well.  And I think it has a reasonable likelihood of adoption (I think its centralized nature will appeal to the establishment, and it has a bit of a marketing machine as it if a for profit company).  OT is so much better though.

I've made a number of attempts at getting OT running over the last 6 months.  The last time I was mostly successful, but still couldn't connect to the digitalis server.  I don't remember what the problem was.  I think I was unable to register a nym.  This is great news about federated servers, but at the moment I'd just like to see one or two running stably.
18  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: WeExchange on: May 28, 2013, 12:41:13 PM
I'm having weexchange problems too.  I sent a little bit of coin through ripple.  It hasn't shown up yet.  Using the ripple tx hash verification box brings up a cloudflare page.  Support ticket has been open for a week with no response.  I would think a wallet service would be run a bit more professionally.

It's only a quarter of a bitcoin, but at this point I'm really happy I decided to do a trial run and didn't send more.
19  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTCTC][[ASICMINER-PT]] - Public trading of ASICMINER shares on: May 24, 2013, 09:33:20 AM
There is a problem on BTC-TC:

1) Received Ask Order: 1 @ 2.535 BTC

Excessive wait trying to get lock on ASICMINER-PT.

When I try to sell 1 ASICMINER-PT share...

2) another error

Same here but not with TAT.ASICMINER shares. I just bought and sold 1 to to try it.
