I hope everyone has a Happy Holiday season, whatever your preference.
Happy New Years when it gets here.

I am not mining at the moment due to the low values of crypto. If/when it becomes profitable again I will be back.
I am also on a fixed income that does not leave me room to mine if that mining does not cover the costs of electricity plus a little profit.
Taxes should be interesting this year, Smiley .

cheers

It is nice to see some work being done on titcoin. I noticed the new tittiecoin and that they are not doing any mining. I finally found this thread and see there has been a bit of a conflict between the two coins. I am guessing this is due to the most recent previous titcoin promoter selling their assets to someone who renamed the coin tittiecoin without realizing a blockchain and its associated nodes and miners are not something that can be sold. Oh well.

I will try to keep an eye on this thread and might even fire up my old titcoin wallet to see what happens.

While being a vegetarian I am not overly excited about turkey. This young lady, however is quite content to wait for her share.

Down again here in Central Ohio USA.
I have an old S7LN I use for heating the bedroom and it started beeping due to no data. Hopefully the main server issue gets resolved soon. One would hope the main server is on a VMware host and can be moved to another physical server unless the whole data center is dead.

I was a doofus and forgot to disable my 2FA in Kano.is when I got my shiny new OnePlus 6T. I had to turn my old OnePlus 1 in to receive a $300.00 credit towards the purchase of the OnePlus 6T (T-Mobile USA offer). In the excitement of getting the new phone and doing a factory reset on my old phone I forgot about disabling the 2FA for Kano Pool before I did the factory reset.

What is interesting is watching the 5N play out.

I created a new account, and set my miners up with the new account information.

I am now watching as we find blocks, and receive payments.

My old account is declining in amount with each payment and my new account is increasing in amount with each payment. Add them up and they match the
bitcoin amounts from before I was a doofus.

Just thought this would be enlightening for those who question about how the 5N payment system works and fear they will lose something somehow by
going to Kano Pool. It also might be good for those who might forget to switch their 2FA over when changing phones to know that it is a painless process to create a new Kano Pool account and update your miners with the new account information.

The main reason I created a new account was I like to monitor my Hash rate with the CKPool android app. I might also need to do some
account administration but for the most part Kano Pool runs along without any need for frequent changes.

It is nice to see a few new blocks coming in. I hope the dry spell is over for the rest of the year!

Starting to get quite a pile of s9 carcasses to stash at work... Since it looks like s9's can now be hacked to allow freq and Vcore adjustment, wonder if Sidehack might be interested me donating them for making into fairly quiet & efficient heaters like we did with the slew of s7's I had...

LOL,

Yes, I have some S7LNs that I used for heating last winter. Since my bride likes to run an electric heater and since she likes a fan blowing near her face while she sleeps and since she also likes a lot of "white" noise to help with her tinnitus a S7LN fits the bill well.

Bitminter is an example of a pool that has similar characteristics to kano pool but much lower hashrate as well as higher fees.
If you are looking for a pool to see distribution of miner sizes Bitminter is an example you could use. Their live statistics page can
be viewed even without an account. It is not as well organized as Kano's but most of the info is there. I mined there long ago
before I found Kano pool.

I see as we have several choices.

(From Hee Haw on TV from long ago)

Gloom Despair and agony on me!!!  (miserable wail)
Deep dark depression excessive misery,
If it wern't for bad variance(luck) I'd have no variance(luck) at all!
Gloom, despair and agony on me........(sobbing fading out into the distance)

or

(from the Broadway production "Wildcat")

Hey, look me over
Lend me an ear
Fresh out of clover
Mortgage up to here
But don't pass the plate, folks
Don't pass the cup
I figure whenever you're down and out
The only way is up
And I'll be up like a rose bud
High on the vine
Don't thumb your nose
But take a tip from mine
I'm a little bit short of the elbow room
But let me get me some
And look out world
Here I come

and

The third choice is carry on no matter the temporary setbacks as long as you are sure your long term plan has merit.

I mean, it is kind of a state of mind, until you start making life decisions based on your feelings.

(and as I was typing this we found a block!)  Wink  Smiley

Concerning cooling.

From what I can see, the best cooling situation is pointing the outflow from your miners directly out a window or other opening.

I converted one of my basement windows to one big screened rectangle and then built a shelf on the wall that was the same height as the lower edge of the basement window. 3 841 and 1 821 are all pointing out that opening and the heat in the basement has dropped considerably and the miners are showing much better cooling. I still have 3 other miners currently in the garage but I may move them back into the basement if I can fix up a second basement window like the first.

The hardest part of the job was making the custom screen to keep bugs, birds, rodents, and cats out of my basement. One of the local hardware stores has a kit where you
can cut the aluminum side pieces to whatever length you need with plastic corner pieces holding everything together.

I had a set of old mini computer boxer fans in the basement window but they pale in comparison to the 160+ CFM fans the miners come with so I just just got them out of the way and have just the screen between the miners and the great outdoors.

My only worry is if the neighbor across from my basement window has issues with the noise. They put up a privacy fence years ago, the wooden slat type, so I don't think that will be an issue.

I had worried I might need to stop mining this summer like I did last summer but it looks promising for continued mining if this setup keeps working as it has been.

just hope that sales drop to nothing and miners start burning out.  :-)  difficulty will go down.
I hope the fire sale of hardware from Bitmain stops "Real Soon Now."    Bring back the days where miners are a lot harder to come by.

I find the situation of the underpricing of the underground empire's equipment to be similar to a middle earth quote.

"The Elves may fear the Dark Lord, and they may fly before him, but never again will they listen to him or serve him."

As long as Avalon/Canaan can supply us and accept bitcoin as payment there is no good long term reason to turn to the other source.

Short term, yeah, many will go that route, but just keep in mind what you are supporting and what their goals seem to be.

LOL,

My miners were cycling, and I immediately thought that kano was down again, then I started checking, and could not get to the miners web-page interface.

Then I had that AHA  moment. The wife had come down to the basement to get some clothing which is on poles I set up decades ago. I had strung one of the
Ethernet lines over the poles to a switch that had a very short power cord. Sure enough the switch was unplugged.

I took the time to reroute things so there was no tension on the power cord and once everything was reconnected all was happy.

Hopefully this extremely minor incident is last the bit of unhappy excitement for the day.

Was just thinking abandoned pizza shops are a dime a dozen where I live. If they have that huge hood type ventilation system and power for electric
ovens they might make excellent lease sites for bitcoin mining on a small to moderate scale. Just need to get rid of the big windows and secure the place
up and you have almost instant cheap small data center.

Well, can dream, can't I?

Kano, i had 2 messages today on the app that a new block has been found, but i cant see them on the website specs. Whats with that? Please dont tell its an error message please....  Huh

did you not even read the 4-5 posts before yours?

Has the event ever occured that something positive was produced by the walnut of yours where other people have a brain?  Roll Eyes

So you didn't read and expected everyone to explain it to you in layman's terms.   Got it, you're one of the lazy.

and you are probably one of the most grumpy...  Cheesy

ey, let's burry the axe, okay?

There were two Salvos fired so far.
the "did you not even read the 4-5 posts before yours?"
and
"Has the event ever occured that something positive was produced by the walnut of yours where other people have a brain?  Roll Eyes"

Of the two the second is more of a personal insult about one's mental capacity.
The first is a general RTFM comment often used by those who feel someone is not doing due diligence in researching an issue.

both comments could have been handled better. We are not taunting each other to gain advantage in battle. Most of us will never see one another
in real life. Most of us want the same thing, to mine and get some value out of this bitcoin mining thingy.

Lets shake hands and agree to disagree harmoniously.

Yeah I've seen that too, the ckpool Android app gives 2400 for midnight instead of 0000.  Weird, but nothing to see here I'd guess!

Mine On!  Cool

-EDIT- and you'll get false block alerts, too, after pool restarts...  Tongue

I am aware of the false block found symptom after a pool restart. I also can see where 2400 would be valid for midnight depending on how you define things.
What I was a bit concerned about was that the Last Block: found time is 2018-05-21 24:08:25.

That has a time stamp of over 24 hours and is not a valid time in any system I know of on planet earth.

From John Ringo's "Troy Rising" series book one.
“It is said that in science the greatest changes come about when some researcher says "Hmmm. That's odd."

I used to be a Novell Administrator long ago and in a different life. The later versions of Novell used something call eDirectory which was a database that
kept track of all the objects in the Novell network. Part of having a consistent database is a very precise tracking of time. The Novell database could be distributed across many servers and many geographic regions. Because of this the database had to know the precise time of any event so it could properly update the database with the most current changes.

A time stamp of over 24 hours would not have been allowed in Novell. I was just wondering if Kano might need clues to find out why his program seg-faulted.
It is my job as a concerned member of Kano pool to bring up little things that would not seem to make a difference when bad things are happening with no apparent cause.

Now if the android app is treating 24 = 0, then 24:08:25 could be a valid time stamp. I just never noticed it doing that before which is why I brought it up after kano pool had its issue.

I just noticed something a bit odd. The time of the last block found has an hour value of 24 with some minutes and seconds after it. The last I recall there are only 24 hours in a day. Is something a bit wobbley with the ckpook app?

Goodmorning guys,I want to add 100 more TH to the pool and I am trying to find the best miners to buy,so I have 10 t9+ and 1 m3x,lets forget about the power comsumptions, the m3x is a beast and stable as hell, the t9+ is just cheap and 2 of them are mining at 8 to 9 Th instead of 10.5,I haven't tried yet the avalon 841 or the S9i,wtf should I buy?

Avalon miner 841 without psu 13TH             1120 USD
Pangolin miner  M3X with psu  12.5TH           850 USD
Antminer S9i with psu   14TH                         1010 USD
Antminer T9+ with psu   10.5TH                       635 USD

I have been slowly buying Avalon 841's from Blokforge. I am about at the limit of power availability at my house unless I get a second meter and power feed installed.
The A841s seems to be stable. I have had bad luck with the S9s and S7 from bitmain. The S7LN's seem fairly stable, probably due to their extra cooling fins installed on them by bitmain. The case for the S7LN is about the same size as the case for the S7 but it is slotted for only two cards and the cooling fins fill that extra space up. The problem is they only produce about 2.7THash/sec with a power consumption of close to 1000 watts. I only run them in the winter as they are not very efficient. You can get around 3Thash/sec out of the S7LNs if you goose them up to 700MHz, standard is 600MHz. I did that to the ones that run coolest.
