So is it really impossible to change the shipping adress if I paid via credit card? Sad

If ordering by credit card the billing and shipping address have to match anyway I think so dodging the VAT isn't as easy as it seems.
Is that so? Because as mentioned before I'm planning to visit a friend in the USA and to stay there until ~18. December. If shipping starts like in the first week of December it would be early enough to send the bASIC to him instead to me so I could pick it up and take it back home without having to pay the 19% VAT in Germany.

How high do you estimate the tax for the import to be Germany?
I expect a 19% import tax and customs charges around 4-18%.
Does anyone possibly like the ASIC miners are classified by Customs?
19% import tax and no custom charges (there is no custom fee on processors or integrated circuits).

I may be visiting a friend in Washington (state) and stay until mid December, is it possible to change the shipping adress on a short term basis (as I'm from Germany and will only benefit from the change if I get the bASIC before flying back home)? I'm asking because it could save me ~210$ of taxes when I get it in the U.S. and take it back home with me.

I still have no clue on how the hacker got the password, did he log it with a keylogger or did you use it somewhere else too?

n0pe, its more like i say when bitcoin was founded it was not build to be energy/hashpower effective for devices like nvidia gpus. .
Guess thats the reason why we soon can buy optimized asic miners, they optimized them for energy efficiency and max hashpower for the bitcoin algo, probably these devices would be useless on another algo as i understood that.
That is correct, ASICs are specifically designed for some operations and are therefore fast but can't be used for any other activities unlike FPGAs.

@topic there will be no better algorithm for nvidia-gpus simply because it makes no sense to spend time and effort in trying to find and develop an algorithm that most likely will still be behind the one for the amd-architecture because of the hardware differences. soon gpu-mining will become obsolete so I see no reason to still put effort in gpu-mining.

I'm getting a 54 GH/s bASIC from BTCFPGA, Tom said that he'll ship in the first week of december. I preordered early enough to be in the first group of people getting an ASIC Smiley As long as I get the expenses back via mining I'm happy.
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I give you 20$ Moneypak - you pay $9.99 via bitcoin on: October 09, 2012, 07:34:08 PM
If you send the moneypak money first (e. g. via paypal) some reputable member may help you, otherwise the chance that you are getting help is very low as bitcoins can't be charged back and it's generally a bad idea to trust a newbie without any further intel and securities.
Personally I think this sounds a lot like scam. Why should someone give away 10$ if he could just load his prepaid credit card or paypal account with moneypak and buy bitcoins?

This is very important! Some years back I found some databases of forums via google because the backup folders were not protected at all! One was from a forum with several thousand members. Sometimes it needs no uber-skilled crook to hack a site and steal their database, even admins of large sites can be lazy and / or careless so the best thing is always to expect the worst and choose a strong password you use only for that specific site. Tools for this (KeePass and so on) have already been mentioned here.

Probably some botnets are still CPU mining although I read that the crooks moved on to GPU mining too.
