1  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Can we trust Butterfly Labs to deliver? on: January 14, 2014, 09:21:02 AM
No not at all.

Not too useful buddy. I'm trying to collect realistic concerns and opinions from the community to decide whether or not to make an investment, and hopefully the discussion will be useful to other posters as well. Despite the long wait time, the BFL hardware runs fine and makes me a good $250/month. It panned out. I want to hear some perspectives on whether it might pan out again.

For the same money you can get much more power efficient miners that are faster.

I'm aware of Butterfly Labs and Avalon as ASIC providers and I've been looking into some of the Black Arrow line more recently. Any advice on what's good right now?

Back when I ordered my BFL 25gh/s miner, the ASIC landscape was bumpy and uncertain, with stories of scams and indefinite pre-orders keeping the community on edge about the whole business. My hardware took 6 months to arrive, by which time its potential value had decreased significantly.

Today, Butterfly Labs made this press release:
Quote
Butterfly Labs (BF Labs Inc.), the Kansas-based leader in Bitcoin mining technology has announced the mid-December 2013 completion of nearly 45,000 ASIC product order shipments - eliminating what had been a multi-month backlog. Butterfly's 65nm product line is now available on their website for immediate sale and delivery.

Full Release

Is Butterfly Labs a safe investment at this point? Will they deliver what they're advertizing on time and in an acceptable fashion?
3  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Unsure: Liberty Payout ($1000) on: December 20, 2012, 02:52:16 AM
Unfortunately, I trusted this guy because of his few good ratings (he was using the name LRP at the time, which it turns out is one of many names he uses.) I was new to #bitcoin-otc, and like a complete moron I sent him 73 bitcoins, almost $1000 worth. Should have held out for someone with a better rating.

The Transaction (blockchain.info)

Two days later he starts getting all these bad ratings. He'll probably come back under a new name.

#bitcoin-otc Nick History

You can see his history of names there. Looks like he's too stupid to change his IP address between nick changes, leaving a lot of potentially useful history.

He claimed on Monday he would be sending the money as cash-in-the-mail to my PO box on Tuesday (yesterday). Still hoping this is all some big misunderstanding and my cash will show up, though very unlikely at this point.

It was a bit confusing making my account, because the only indication that I'm not able to post anywhere except here was the description of this board. (I made an account because I wanted to leave feedback on another thread, but now I have to dick around for a while and B.S. 5 posts about whatever before I can do that.)

This kind of system is annoying to people who don't necessarily want to invest themselves in becoming regular users, and visit various forums for specific one-off purposes. If I became a regular user of every forum I have ever visited for some reason or another, I would have thousands of accounts, no job, and also be dead. This is an absurd and irritating and generally terrible solution to a problem you seem to think is somehow unique. (Oh no we're getting trolled on the Internet block everything.)

It would be interesting to see how many people here have exactly 6 posts. It's probably disproportionate.
