Use cgminer instead of guiminer. Also, you'll need to overclock to achieve 300+ Mh/s. 230-240 Mh/s sounds about right for a 5830 @ stock speeds. cgminer : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28402.0

I've never seen that error. I used to run GUIminer, but replaced it with cgminer last summer. cgminer is great.

425 MH/s w/ free, as in beer, electricity. Primarily a highly oc'd 5830, but a handful of other office boxes as well.
