1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC] An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer on: November 08, 2012, 07:04:08 AM
What stops me/someone from only joining the pool when it's near the end of a block then?

But surely that means I was doing wasted calculations? Can't we start more 'fresh' blocks so it's less like for pool members to calculate on the same blocks - and hence we have a 'collision'?

FINALLY!!! Jesus this 4 hour thing is ridiculous...

Anyway... Heres my thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=121631.msg1310767#msg1310767 (I was un-whitelisted..)

To quote:"I joined a pool and mined one proof of work (I think) but then it shows this in the syslog "Long-polling activated for http://ltc.kattare.com:9332/LP""

Any ideas? Smiley

Right it seems to be working... Though I have 2 concerns.
1. I'm mining incredibly slow (6.5kh/s) but like I only got 0.05 litecoin after like 10h of mining.
2. It keeps showing up with "LONGPOLL detected new block".. It would go through allot of these before I get a "accepted: 1/1 (100.00%), 6.82 khash/s (yay!!!)" message. Is this normal? Surely it's inefficient?

5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I run litecoin miner for Ubuntu/Linux Mint on: November 01, 2012, 05:09:28 PM
Right this is how you run it:

./minerd --syslog --config=./cfg.json
And NOT
minerd --syslog --config=/cfg.json

You can see your syslog (where it logs messages) at /var/log/syslog.
- Quick tip: use the command "tail -f /var/log/syslog" to automatically show new 'lines' appened to a file.

... If thats helpfull to anyone.

I joined a pool and mined one proof of work (I think) but then it shows this in the syslog "Long-polling activated for http://ltc.kattare.com:9332/LP"

Any ideas guys? Sad Can somebody please whitelist me?
6  Other / Beginners & Help / How do I run litecoin miner for Ubuntu/Linux Mint on: November 01, 2012, 01:28:11 PM
So I got  the miner from here : (https://github.com/downloads/litecoin-project/litecoin/litecoin-0.6.3c-linux.tar.gz) (it's posted on the offical litecoin thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=47417.0).

But it doesn't provide instructions how to run it? I've tried typing 'minerd' and 'sudo minerd' with no luck. Double clicking it and selecting 'run in terminal' doesn't do anything either...

thank you Smiley
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Litecoin - taking ages to downlod on: November 01, 2012, 01:22:51 PM
It takes 15 seconds now per block...

seeing as there are 200k blocks to download still..
15 x 200,000 = 3,000,000 seconds
3,000,0000 / (60 x 60 x 24) = 34.7 days

Erm.....
I think it's going to speed up later on. If I remember correctly there was some spamming attack at that point in Litecoin's history, which caused the blockchain to bloat.

Yup it speed up. Smiley Finished today some time Cheesy.

Good luck fellow liters ;P

You might just try restarting the client.  But I reinstalled mine on a fresh install of windows a couple of days ago and it took me about 6-8 hours total to download.  How many connections do you have?  (You can see this by hovering your mouse over the icons in the lower right corner of the application)

14 active connections. It's downloading at a rate of 100kb/s (thats the maxium my broadband allows).

Is the litecoin database allot bigger than the bitcoin database?
