There have been a few of these "crashes" over the last few weeks. The only one that had any explanation that I'm aware of was the blockchain fork, and even that only lasted a few minutes. The price seems to drop radically then rebound just as radically. It IS a great buying opportunity, except that when volumes get high like that, mtgox gets so laggy I've found it's almost impossible to sell and buy back again at a lower price before all the fun is over. You really need to set up some bids at lower prices in advance and then hope the price drops.

Thanks for the good advice. I've been trading bitcoins on #bitcoin-otc. The web-of-trust which is a very useful way to gauge another users trustworthiness, but it's worth the reminder that even that is not foolproof.

I don't know, I keep waiting for the bubble to burst, and with every rapid drop in BTC prices, there is an almost immediate recovery. The volatility is fun though.

Hey, I've been playing with bitcoins for some time now and I've spent quite a bit of time lurking around these forums without bothering to register.
Now, thanks to the problems with UK bank withdrawals at intersango, I'm looking to make contacts with people trading bitcoins in the UK.
So... time to register I guess.
