That's interesting, I was trying to find some bench tests for cpu vs gpu but can't find them as easily as with bitcoins :-(

Too lazy to download entire blockchain or setup a pool just to bench my old laptop :-)

The atoms I tested had som small internal power-pcb and was powered by a laptop supply.

It might be a good idea to get the power supply from the same vendor, I had a weird problem with one board refusing to start up at all with a another seemingly identical psu.

Is any of the tenebrix / fairbrix whatever scrypt based block chains still in operation?

Has anyone written plugins for thunderbird? Need to make something that moves messages between folders automagically and makes external web-queries.

Why not get an Intel Atom board? I tried one before and couldn't get it to go above 15 Watts whatever programs I ran.

They're small and you can get fanless power supplies for them.

Add a small SSD disk and you have a dead quiet system.

You can put either Linux or Windows on them (I tried Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12  something)

Hmm yes I dug into hashcash, it seems to be dead.

Perhaps one problem was that you had to wait some time for your email to send, i.e. your computer to come up with a solution, variance of response time being one annoying issue (we all know how impatient we are with that send button)

Hi!

I am considering developing a framework in which micro payments in bitcoin or similar will be used to mark messages in email and similar as "preferred", i.e. someone payed a small sum for you to read it, similar to sms messages and paper letters, but not that expensive.

The possibility of sending un-stamped messages will still exist, but if you put a stamp on your message, it will end up on the receivers "priority" folder or similar effectively allowing you to ignore spam or second-rate mail from that firm you haven't ordered from the last 10 years.

Please vote!

Hello!

I am on an assignment to build an experimental framework where bitcoins or similar crypto-currencies are used as "lubricant" when passing information around. Instead of having people paying for information, I want to try to see if people are willing to pay to get other people to read their specific messages.

The first and obvious target of this experiment being e-mail & spam.

The notion that a small (volontary) fee attached to an email will make spamming much harder has been proposed before (see hash cash and similar), but with the relative convenience of bitcoin micro payments, this has a real potential to be the first killer-app for bitcoin.

About myself, I am a seasoned programmer among other things, dating back to the more civilized age of BASIC/FORTH/LISP/ASSEMBLER/PASCAL.

Having used C/C++/Java professionally for many years.

My newest conquest is managing a L.A.M.P. server with php5.

I have also been allocated a small amount of bitcoins (no that in itself won't make anyone rich :-) to purchase help online with various tasks concerning this setup.
