So, even if we are to assume that money should be distributed according to people's abilities, not raw computational power, how do we do it? A decentralized network can't handle judging the subjective value of human works. Computers don't understand art or things of that nature. Humans do. So, therefore, for this idea to work, humans have to award the BTC. For this to work, we would need a centralized, issuing agency. A currency of that nature would fail your other criterion.
The key thing to remember is that Bitcoin will eventually be circulating just like any other currency. It's just that for the issuance of the 21 million units, this is the only reasonable way to do it.

Please see here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=133935.0We have been verified by a Hero Member on the site. Also working with another transaction now and will soon be verified. If you are interested in doing business but are on the paranoid side we offer Escrow to guarantee a smooth transaction. Hope to do business with you soon, The BTC 4 Amazon Team From reading your website, my understanding is I can go to Walmart, buy any type of giftcard, give you the code, and receive BTC for it (less the 15%(?) fee)? If I'm understanding this right, I will be using you in the near future.

Do they have one of these for the Iphone?
I found a web miner that claims compatibility with the iPhone. I don't have one, so I can't check, but here it is. http://www.bitarama.com/mobile-mining(But, really, you should consider the fact that this is ridiculously unprofitable.)

some androids have quad-core processers; modifying this for litecoin mining (scrypt) would at least be somewhat more profitable, wouldn't it?
This already exists. http://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,716.msg2652.htmlFrom the thread, though, it appears to be nearly useless. The network moves on to the next block before people can submit a single share. Funny that people complain about that on their phone, when that's what happens on my laptop. >.< (Though, the developer says he intends to upgrade it to be faster. We'll have to see.) what about https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=93276.0? I suppose 1-2 kh/s (if you're lucky) is pretty terrible, but it's better than the miner you mentioned (without calculating power, it'll generate ~12-24 LTC per year) or the BTC miner. That does look a lot better. But, you know, it's still ridiculously unprofitable. I'm not sure what the point is, but I suppose, "Because I can," is a decent enough reason.
