1  Other / Beginners & Help / Getting market's API (Ticker) data into Excel 2007 without Copy and Paste? on: October 30, 2011, 10:06:27 PM
Anybody had any luck importing, into Excel 2007 but without resorting to Cut and Paste, the data that MtGox, CampBX or Tradehill  make available by using their API's?

Excel 2007 has supposedly has the ability to "Get External Data" "From Web", but it's beaten me into submission.

API's:
http://mtgox.com/api/0/data/ticker.php
http://CampBX.com/api/xticker.php
https://api.tradehill.com/APIv1/USD/Ticker

The problem seems to  be that Excel doesn't understand JSON, but when I look at the output from those API sites, it looks like text that I should be able to parse without much trouble.

I've searched around the forum for some insight into this, but I have not found anything relevant to importing ticker data without Cut and Paste.

Thanks for any suggestions!

3  Other / Beginners & Help / Meaning of Bitcoin Charts / Markets colors? on: October 24, 2011, 01:13:17 AM
When looking at Bitcoin Charts / Markets, I see a variety of record colors and font attributes. Green for markets rising, red for falling and so on. Is there a writeup somewhere that explains what all the combinations of colors and shades of colors and font attributes mean? I found some posts here about the colors in the volume bars of the charts, but not about the colors used in the Markets display.

Thanks!
4  Other / Beginners & Help / New "Your Bitcoin Address" appears spontaneously on: October 21, 2011, 06:08:54 PM
I had a question about why the Bitcoin client generated new "Your Bitcoin Address"es every so often, but while reading one of the sticky topics in the Newbies board I came upon the answer.

One of the other topics says to introduce yourself, so, starting with the answer to the question I had:

"Whenever the address listed in "Your address" receives a transaction, Bitcoin replaces it with a new address. This is meant to encourage you to use a new address for every transaction, which enhances anonymity. All of your old addresses are still usable: you can see them in Settings -> Your Receiving Addresses."

I've been following Bitcoin since shortly before the big bubble formed (my Bitcoin Pearltrees Pearl). Something prevented me from sticking a toe in the water until just a few days ago, with the result that I now have a few BTC that, so far, have actually increased in value a little bit instead of sliding at the steady rate that's prevailed for the past several months. Now I've gained a little experience in dealing with a couple of exchanges, and seeing how Dwolla works with my bank and the various exchanges. It's all been educational and entertaining for me.

I hope Bitcoin becomes widely accepted. The reason I was interested in the first place was PayPal and the credit card companies presuming to tell me I could not make donations to a certain global public service organization.

Screw that. Go Bitcoin!
